BEVs in Australia

Post by nigwil »

I wanted to record here an ad-hoc survey of manufacturers and their plans to introduce BEV (Battery Electric Vehicles) into Australia. Like most people I expect there will be a future tipping point when Australian vehicle vendors finally decide to unleash a wave of BEVs onto our market. Here is a partial summary of responses I've received so far; I aim to update this over the coming months so we can look back and see how this change has unfolded.
  1. Nissan Leaf - "Thanks for your interest in the New Nissan Leaf."
  2. Renault ZOE - "Thank you for registering your interest in Renault Electric Vehicles. We promised that you would be among the first to hear any news about our progress bringing Zero Emissions to Australia."
  3. Tesla Model 3 - expected in 2018/2019
  4. Volkswagen e-Golf - "We don't currently have plans to introduce the VW E-Golf..."
  5. Holden Bolt - no reply to online query
  6. BMW i3 - available
If anyone has additions to the list or updates from vendors please comment below.

Did you try Mitsubishi? Last I heard they said you could still get an i-MIEV if you were prepared to pay full retail and wait for it to be imported. Not expecting anyone to actually do so.

Thanks Bryce, I guess good news.
Renault have managed to complicate things, I guess I need to edit my original post to "BEVs in Australia for the non-commercial-user" :-)

Any thoughts on the question about lease-only for Renault commercial users?

Actually the I-Miev has not been available for order for at least 2 years.

I've seen conflicting reports, would be nice to see something official from Mitsubishi, though it really doesn't make much difference whether they are officially available or not if no one is buying them.

Yes, haven't seen one in Australia but there are a few running around as taxis or similar in Singapore. I think the price is getting up there with Teslas.

Now that compliance has been completed on Mitsubishi U68V and Nissan NV2000, there are late models available from japan.

As far as I'm aware, the only SEV compliance workshops in Australia for ENV2000 and Minicab U67 and U68 is JustBuses at Virginia on northside of Brisbane
