The big ones finally decide to decide to meet to decide on a standard charging port.....

1 & 3 Phase AC, slow and fast DC charging all in one socket.
From flat to full in 15 mins.

Holy crapolo, the power transmission infrastructure around these recharge stations is going to be some serious kit...

"Combined Charging System is the result of collaborative efforts between Audi, BMW, Chrysler, Daimler, Ford, General Motors, Porsche and Volkswagen."

Curious that Mitsubishi and Nissan aren't involved. The first two to really get production Battery Electric Vehicles off the line.

Do I smell some big car market maneuvering going on?

So down to two standards now - about time! Previously it was looking like it was going to be three: Chademo (Japan), SAE (US), Menekes (Europe). So US and Europe have got their act together finally, good to see.

A New York Times article;

Has pictures of the two plugs, and worries about different standards.

But if one is going to install a 50kW charge station, wouldn't one go to the trouble of providing the two different sockets?
