Re: Starting my journey.

ah it's fine - I'll shift it over when I figure it out

tbh, I actually recommend buying a working already converted car to drive, while your doing your own conversion
That way you have one for you, and then later when your better half keeps pinching the good one, you have another one for you

Re: Starting my journey.

There's a Datsun 1200 for sale already converted. Converted cars tend to sell for around 10-20% what you'd pay for them in parts.

Re: PV Inverters and batteries

I have long thought about feeding some of the circuits in my house from a 320v nominal battery. Pretty much only loads with motors running direct online can't run from dc, everything else can. No having to much around with inverters and loses.

Re: Outlander PHEV Range Extender?

Similar approach to hacking together a plug in prius. Either build a battery pack slightly higher nominal voltage than the original and direct connect in parallel on the inverter side ofthe current sensor, or use a dc-dc with a more manageable lower voltage battery. With the second option, tc charge...

Re: PV Inverters and batteries

You would want the battery to be above 380v, for the inverter to be most efficient. That way the mppt stage doesn't have to boost the battery voltage above thr nominal rectified mains. Depending upon topology of the inverter, if you are above 380v you could connect directly to the internal dc bus af...

Re: Any info on these chargers?

Thanks for the heads up

I have a new 3.3kW tc charger that I have yet to use. On mine the 4pin connectors lock in place. If they end up loose I'll probably swap the connectors out with something else. The hold the connectors occupy is a standard size, replacements can be bought off aliexpress

Re: Antiscab's NWH10 Prius plugin Lithium conversion

I'm now having a look at using 200 x headway 10Ah cells, 100s2p for 20Ah at 320v I think the headways won't heat up as much, and should deal with the peak loads better Against my better judgement, I've been given another nhw10, though this one is registered, and an old customer has heaps of headway ...

Reverse-cycle (heat pump) heating

there is another option: pipe in an evaporator radiator into the refrigerant line before the motor. so ambient air heats the refrigerant to slightly before ambient, before the refrigerant goes to the motor to get heated above ambient. probably expensive to redo, but should improve heat output withou...

Reverse-cycle (heat pump) heating

When you drive with a cold motor, what rpm range do you keep it in? With my impulse 9, until it reaches around 40 deg c, I find the most efficient system efficiency means keeping the motor between 2000 and 3000rpm. Basically shifting losses from gearbox and bearings to the motor. I wonder if you jus...

New Blade Electron owner

Update, I have started opening up the dead electron to see what can be salvaged. The battery has turned out to be 108 series 20 parallel 26650 lfp cells of unknown origin. They're marked as 10.25wh I'll need to do a capacity test. I had plans on pulling out the battery, repackaging and using it as a...

Does anyone know what meter is used to measure the Ah capacity of Lifepo4 cells. PHEVS in Oz, future EVs

for people who drive very short distances and can recharge at home, even a very low electric ranged PHEV may be sufficient for them to travel mostly on electricity, thus the 4 cylinder engine is only used for occasional long distance travel or emergency backup. The problem with that is small batter...

Charger 3kw and 2kw?

A 2kw charger can supply 2kw max at either a certain max voltage or a certain max amperage but not both at the same time? Yes that's it. The residential generation would be calculated from registered system sizes, orientations and measured solar intensity. Might be under estimated depending upon how many unregistered systems may be connected

NEM Australian Generation

I remember there being another Australian one, but can't seem to find it again.

interesting the turtle didn't come up

are you able to use canion or similar to see cell voltages? the voltages at 0 bars and at full charge would be telling

If you didn't run into the turtle, than perhaps the fuel guage has merely been re calibrated with a lower expected battery capacity

Charger 3kw and 2kw?

The newest version chargers have a completely different layout. I just checked, the smallest charger that does above 96v nominal is 3.3kW. It's physically half the size of the old 1.5kW unit. http://s.aliexpress.com/Q7nyaIBj I'm without a computer at the moment, so switching between screens on my ha...

The tc chargers with the enable option allow you to vary charge rate by putting a resistor on the enable line instead of a direct short. At least they used to.

GBS cell smell question

All the cells I have ever owned have given off that smell when put in an enclosed space. It doesn't take much of the solvent to seep out before we can smell it.

I'd just proceed with the conversion

The upside is it can be mistaken for new car smell

TBH there are other grid storage suppliers that can do the same. It's all just business to Musk. I'd rather have the investment go to a local.
