Re: How to value my iMiev for sale?

They're still selling Nissan leaf for $30k. I don't think there'll be any depreciation until the new models all become available.

Re: Battery pack placement

nearly all the series DC motors used in conversions *are* 48v motors from forklifts. you can easily go to 120v on a "48v" motor my experience with an impulse 9" motor in my mazda was that the motor voltage rarely got above 70v (at 4000rpm), even though my battery voltage was around 140v (250A batter...

Re: Top 5 Main Problems with Electric Cars

1. my car becoming an orphan (not likely unless you're buying a compliance car) 2. availability of competent service techs (my experience thus far has been underwhelming) 3. towing ability 4. upgradeability of the battery 5. too few people buying new electric cars meaning they're a rarity in the sec...

Re: Battery pack placement

You should be okay for heat then. Battery box location is always a trade off. Low hanging battery box in the boot helps you retain much of the car interior space, at the expense of probably more work and possibly unfavourable weight distribution. Although should be easier to keep cool. I'd suggest m...

Re: Battery pack placement

Depends a bit on what batteries you are using. Remember a car interior acts like a greenhouse, on a 40 deg c day the internal temperature can get to 80 deg c. Using lithium batteries is easiest to get enough range, but mounting the battery within the passenger compartment necessitates cooling while ...

Re: EV Motor Durability

All motors have a continuous rating, just stay below it. I have a 6.7" x91 motor in my shed that would normally be used in a daihatsu charade size conversion. That's rated to 14kW continuous.

Re: Bus Conversions - a Reality

I don't think anyone really knows.

Might be a bit like blade electric vehicles, where the first few are treated as conversions, and then after that you have to compliance as a second stage manufacturer

Any idea on how much capacity the remaining cells have? I'm guessing you couldn't just get away with bypassing 9 cells and lowering the motorcontroller low voltage limit?

ah it's fine - I'll shift it over when I figure it out

tbh, I actually recommend buying a working already converted car to drive, while your doing your own conversion
That way you have one for you, and then later when your better half keeps pinching the good one, you have another one for you

Re: Starting my journey.

There's a Datsun 1200 for sale already converted. Converted cars tend to sell for around 10-20% what you'd pay for them in parts.

Re: PV Inverters and batteries

I have long thought about feeding some of the circuits in my house from a 320v nominal battery. Pretty much only loads with motors running direct online can't run from dc, everything else can. No having to much around with inverters and loses.

Re: Outlander PHEV Range Extender?

Similar approach to hacking together a plug in prius. Either build a battery pack slightly higher nominal voltage than the original and direct connect in parallel on the inverter side ofthe current sensor, or use a dc-dc with a more manageable lower voltage battery. With the second option, tc charge...

Re: PV Inverters and batteries

You would want the battery to be above 380v, for the inverter to be most efficient. That way the mppt stage doesn't have to boost the battery voltage above thr nominal rectified mains. Depending upon topology of the inverter, if you are above 380v you could connect directly to the internal dc bus af...

Thanks for the heads up

I have a new 3.3kW tc charger that I have yet to use. On mine the 4pin connectors lock in place. If they end up loose I'll probably swap the connectors out with something else. The hold the connectors occupy is a standard size, replacements can be bought off aliexpress

Re: Antiscab's NWH10 Prius plugin Lithium conversion

I'm now having a look at using 200 x headway 10Ah cells, 100s2p for 20Ah at 320v I think the headways won't heat up as much, and should deal with the peak loads better Against my better judgement, I've been given another nhw10, though this one is registered, and an old customer has heaps of headway ...
