Cold Weather Performance?

Thanks Johny - I tended to think along the same lines.

Thanks Richo - I will try what you suggest just in case.

Cheers

Cold Weather Performance?

Thanks Richo I do have 4 resistors that I used in the past to test cells to determine weak cells. I assume I could use those again to test cells in situ? I use the EV Power BMS which gives me: a) When charging - a "Battery Fault" message when any cell goes over 4.0v but it doesn't tell me which cell...

Cold Weather Performance?

Thanks Johny - your reply reassures me a bit. Thanks Richo - I don't think I used the conductive goop you mention. I will check the links listed in the Noalex thread and get some. The DC_DC probably is not the problem as the aux battery is recharged from a flex solar panel on the roof. The panel and...

Hi Richo

I have a demister installed but because of the power drain I never use it.

Thanks

Cold Weather Performance?

Hi people, I am wondering how much (if at all?) cold weather affects the performance of lithium batteries? I installed my 100ah CALB about two years ago but the car was off the road for most of last winter while we hunted around for a new gear box. We are now in the middle of this winter and in Sydn...

new charging locations in nsw

Hi people, I checked Plugshare yesterday and noticed two charging sites in Woolworth's car park at Dee Why in Sydney. They are just Clipsal 15amp (I think?) points. I checked them out and there is absolutely no signage to indicate they are EV charging points. Does anyone know if EVs have been given ...

4Springs' Brumby

Well I originally thought (after a few red wines) that maybe you could plug in a charger and then plug in a dc-dc converter to the charger to get your 12v then plug in an inverter to get back up to 240v ac and then plug another charger into the inverter! The above, combined with the wind turbine you...

4Springs' Brumby

Hi 4Springs

At car shows could you plug your charger into the socket and recharge your batteries if the car show didn't have any spare sockets? Maybe save you some money?

Just me trying to think of other ideas apart from loudspeakers and strobe lights.

Cheers

Good idea 4Springs!

Tasmania is not a tropical state is it? No banana trees and sugar cane?

Two Chargers Simultaneous Charging

Hi people, I thought I would update this thread. My brother and I fitted the old lead acid charger after having replaced the circuit breaker from a 10amp to 16amp. We then tried the stock-standard Jaycar "Y" cable and the two chargers started off at a combined 27.4 amps and the lead acid charger qui...

Who makes Tesla's Charging Stations?

Sorry, I didn't know Tesla produced two different types of chargers? Or is one type produced by Tesla and the other produced by someone else?

Apologies for my dumbness!

Who makes Tesla's Charging Stations?

Hi people,

This is just a curiosity question. Does anyone know the name of the company who makes the Tesla's Charging Stations for Tesla? I don't think Tesla makes them themselves?

I am thinking of buying a Tesla down the track sometime.

Thanks in advance,
Paul

Two Chargers Simultaneous Charging

Thanks guys, Thanks Peter C, I know what you are saying and I will bounce it off my electrician brother who is now also rather curious about what could be giving these conflicting results. Thanks coulomb, as a matter of fact this time I used the exact same "Y" shaped cable (that I mentioned earlier ...

Two Chargers Simultaneous Charging

Hi Adverse Effects,

When I tested the combination of the two I had the old lead acid charger sitting on a piece of rubber sheeting sitting on the top of the front edge of the engine bay.

Would this make a difference?

Thanks muchly

Two Chargers Simultaneous Charging

Hi people, I thought this thread had reached its conclusion. All I had to do was get some of the terminals which 4Springs told me about and all would be good. I haven't had a chance to hunt those terminals down but my brother happened to be free this afternoon so we decided to actually install the o...

Thanks guys. Thanks Eric, I will give what you suggest a try with the help of my electrician brother. TBS E-Xpert Pro Doing Funny Things

Hi people, Just wondering if anyone has had problems with their TBS E-Xpert Pro battery monitor? I have had mine since about 2009 so I am not really complaining about its performance since then - it has lasted well for the last 7 years! Lately however it gives very weird voltage readings while I am ...

Hi Johny

I paid by electronic transfer straight from my bank account to their bank account listed on their invoice. In US dollars of course.

I think there was a $30 fee charged by my bank.

Two Chargers Simultaneous Charging

I hadn't thought of that 4Springs. Correct me if I am wrong, but I gather you are saying that it may be the plug which is causing the heat in that section of the cable and not the cable itself? I will do a search on the Jaycar website to see if they have 15amp IEC male plugs which I assume would hav...

Two Chargers Simultaneous Charging

Thought I might update this thread a bit in case anyone has similar problems to mine. Up until recently my plan was to fit the new 18amp (actually 17.4amp) charger and just leave the old lead acid charger as a backup. Just to recap, I wanted to fit both chargers but the old charger didn't have any s...

Do I need a new controller?

Thanks Richo, It was only after reading your reply that I remembered that the 100ah batteries are rated for a max 3C discharge which obviously means that a 500a controller would "stuff" them up quickly. A 500a controller would require a bigger motor and different batteries which, all up, almost amou...

Do I need a new controller?

Thanks Johny and 4Springs I sorta thought a new motor might be necessary! I was just hoping there might be another solution. I will continue on with any aero mods I can think of and then accept the car for what it is. Developing the car has certainly been an interesting journey. Obviously if I knew ...

Do I need a new controller?

Hi people, I have come to a point where I am a bit “stuck” as to what improvements I can do to my EV. It originally (in 2008) was a 96v system using 8 x 12v, 100 ah, lead acids, 300amp 96v controller and 96v Motor DC F series 2800 rpm 8.5kw continuous. I was told this configuration was adequate for ...
