Motor voltage and RPM's

G’day people, I have a question regarding motor voltage and RPM. Ten years ago we completed the conversion of a 93/94 Suzuki Swift using the old 96v “Goombi” kit. In the last ten years I have had a lot of “fun” (and blood sweat and tears!) improving the performance of the car. I have made aerodynami...

Re: Chargers being turned off

Thanks to Mike, Matthew, Allan and Christopher. You guys talk about proximity switches or buttons and soft stops but unfortunately this problem is on my Swift conversion. No buttons etc here! 98% of my charging is done at home. To put it in highly technical terms (highly technical for me anyway!) ex...

Chargers being turned off

Hi people, I thought I could remember someone on these forums mentioning that battery chargers do not like being turned off when they are charging at full pace. I checked with Phil Gel from Gelco Services and he confirmed the above. I have had to turn chargers off when they are charging at full pace...

Re: Destination chargers for Motels, etc: Suggested install?

Hi Doug Good ideas! Did the motel already have EV charging available or were you trying to convince the owner to introduce charging facilities? What was the owner's opinion about charging facilities? I like your proposal but as usual the devil is in the detail. Do you want to "force" (legally) busin...

Re: TBS e-expert pro pre-scale setting

Hi Matthew I also have a TBS Pro monitor with a 1-5 prescaler. As you said this is set in setting 6.5. I checked my manual and noticed setting 6.9 which is called Set Up Lock. When set to ON it prevents all settings from being modified including setting 6.5. I have my Set Up Lock set to OFF allowing...

Re: Caps over terminals?

Yes Christopher I was almost going to have the caps delivered straight to your place but I was worried they might not work properly. I didn't want to send you some "duds" so I thought I better test them out thoroughly on my car. I will test them out thoroughly for a few years and if they work proper...

Caps over terminals?

Hi My recent battery purchase included caps to go over the top of the terminal bolts and are designed to partially cover the inter cell connectors as well. See pictures below: 20200812_141852.jpg 20200812_141748.jpg I have never put caps over terminals before and am now starting to doubt the wisdom ...

Re: Wanted CALB 100AH batteries

Hi people, I thought I would update you. EV Works and EV Power still have the 100ah cells on backorder. Suzi Auto does not stock 100ah cells. I placed an order for 5 CALB 100ah cells with EV-Lithium. The cost was $700 US which converted to $1,054 Aud after bank charges were added. EV Lithium promise...

Re: Wanted CALB 100AH batteries

Thanks Matthew I thought of that but my battery charger ramps down the amps at about 145.4v pack {40 cells) voltage ie. 3.635v per cell. Bypassing the dud cell would mean 145.4v for 39 cells or 3.728v per cell. I like to keep well within the voltage limits per cell and anything above 3.7v per cell w...

Re: Wanted CALB 100AH batteries

Thanks Chris
Everyone in Aus seems to have them on back order.

Tried a firm in Hong Kong called EVLithium. They have a min order quantity of 20 cells but I talked them down to 5 cells. $100 US per cell plus $200 US for air freight. Total cost $700 US.

I assume you haven't heard of them?

Thanks

Re: Wanted CALB 100AH batteries

Thanks Chris,

I just checked and the Winston 100ah and the CALB 100ah cells are almost identical physically. No more than 1 mm difference on any dimension.

I may have to try China or the USA.

Thanks

Wanted CALB 100AH batteries

Hi people, I have 40 CALB 100ah cells in my Suzuki Swift at present. I think I am having trouble with one cell. I would like to buy two more cells to replace the possibly defective cell and to keep one cell as a spare. The only supplier I am aware of in Australia has these cells on back order. Last ...

I just checked and it definitely says they can't be paralleled but it is ok to link two in series to give you 24 v.

Thanks guys for your replies.

12v lithium batteries can't be paralleled?

Hi people, My brother wants to buy 2 or 3 12v lithium batteries about 100ah each with internal BMS for his camping trips. We were hunting around for suppliers and found a brand called Voltax but the website says they can't be used in parallel only in series. We found other brands but they do not men...

Re: OK I'm confused!

Ok people I am about to sort of hijack my own thread. Since I blew my first charger I have had an idea as to how chargers may be made more reliable. I always dismiss this idea until I blow my next charger and the idea resurfaces. It appears to me, from my own experience and comments made by other pe...

Re: OK I'm confused!

Thanks coulomb The chargers I use are KPS (KingPan) but it is not because they are the cheapest I could find. They are half the size and half the weight of the Elcon chargers of the same wattage. Size and weight are both important factors when fitting components into a small Suzuki Swift. The KPS ch...

Re: OK I'm confused!

By power factor I assume you mean the inefficiency of the charger. The charger normally sends 85 to 90% of the power it receives into the battery bank.

My confusion is with the readings on the power meter itself before the power even gets to the charger.

OK I'm confused!

Hi people, I have been charging with a new KPS 2000 charger which is fairly obviously a 2kw charger. 2kw divided by 240 volts means a roughly 8.33 amp draw. I then noticed my 10 amp extension lead was getting very hot. I bought a power meter and took some measurements. According to the power meter t...
