A closer look at the volt RCD tripping issue

Wow thanks you four for your help!    So.. can you tell me if you think this might help? I buy a 20 amp outlet, get the sparky to fit it in the Car Park, then to the Sub-Board, then plug in g4qber's Clipper Creek that draws up to 16 amp into that (I assume its rcd'd close to that figure of 15.? amps...

EV buses 60 foot Bendy Bus 240 km range, in wheel

...In wheel motor, from BYD. This company has EV buses going into several Countries. Also has BYD taxis operating in fleets already. So heavy GVM (Gross Vehicle Mass) vehicles are now being EV'd in fleets. Makes you think that General fleet trucks could be viable in 4-6 years? What do you think.. Is...

A closer look at the volt RCD tripping issue

Hi Antiscab, So I now have g4qbers clipper creek to test in a 20amp socket. I have disconnected a 4.8 kw water heater, and was going to get my sparky to test my volt / his clipper creek in a 20 amp single phase socket. So I was going to ask my sparky to wire up an external single phase socket, using...

Volt $2.50 to fill? But it costs more to run

yes definitely would have gone for a cheaper model Volt . Leather Seats and Safety Package 1 and 2 I could easily have lived without. I just wanted the technology at that time. I would have gone the cheapest model available, for the Volt for sure. One thing I liked though ws the 0.5 % lease finance ...

New Imiev may be bigger . current battery shortage

Hi to Ac.. Edit (oops another post came in while I was posting) Yep I kinda like the Imiev at the size it is, and would opt for it to stay the same, and be able to take advantage, say, of higher density battery packs that weigh the same, and fit into the same space, in years to come. I guess they ha...

New Imiev may be bigger . current battery shortage

so the next imiev "might " be bigger, and the current Imievs are being held up by battery shortages. “Right now, we want maximum production of the plug-in hybrid, so i-MiEV battery production is being deprioritized. We can make only 30,000 plug-in vehicles this year. But from next April, battery out...

1 Year on, $6 gas + Electricity

hmm lets see .. . 1.2 gals will give the Volt around 100 km. not 60 .. based on my mileage. lets see also .. what range is comfortable for the Imiev.. 100kms? I just got 75 km ev on the Volt last few days, so are you getting 150 kms comfortable range out of the Imiev? IF so, then the Volt would get ...

1 Year on, $6 gas + Electricity

Not a bad result :

Volt 1 year, $6 Gas, Plus Electricity Cost

For those that can live within the Electric EV Range , of an EREV, costs can be very little.

Then when they need a longer trip, but cannot find a charger, thats ok too.

Volt $2.50 to fill? But it costs more to run

The australian Version has all the options -- fully optioned - -leather seats, safety 1 and 2, and can be bought for $54000 on the road. .most U.S. prices exclude on road costs, some also exlude taxes. Here is a link from someone who drove a Volt 10000 miles for $300 . cheap to run 10000 miles on Vo...

Hi Gabz, Great work. Do you know if Aeva management can write to some pollies about this? Also , is there a possibility of funding from say NRMA ? How about a lottery? I like the way Holland has asked the service stations to allow EV charging. Highway servos are generally 24/ 7 , and some already ha...

EV Charge Places -Add A Site Please

Hi Gabz, Thanks for doing that! I think restaurants and motels are good places to target for sure. .also service stations. Any large car park areas with an outside outlet to possible either part charge or fully charge a BEV, or an EREV ,are great targets. Can anyone else think of places that a frien...

A closer look at the volt RCD tripping issue

"So.... In both countries, the two 240 VAC wires go through an RCD. It measures the difference in current between the two wires. If there is no path to ground then all is well - well almost... In the USA you could apply a load from either wire to ground without tripping the RCD BUT the load would ha...

A closer look at the volt RCD tripping issue

oh ok, so what is the main difference between say a 240 volt setup in the US and a 240 volt setup in Australia, as far as wiring is concerned. ( I know nothing about wiring) I thought I read a few posts on GM volt forum about people having issues with level 2 evse's, that had incorrect grounding ? a...

hmm if Melville has an spx in their workshop, a. Have they used it on a Volt b. Could you try it on your Volt in their workshop. c. if Aus1 had an update applied to his Volt by an Australian Authorised Holden Volt Dealer, and his SPX now works just fine, then maybe consider an spx? But.. try and see...

lag/hesitation in acceleration +80kmh

Just took the Volt out to try an replicate any lag, and accelerated on a flat stretch from 80 kmph to 140 kmph, and no noticable lag at all. Although this was in Low on EV mode.

So I will check in Hold mode (running in range extended mode)

Yep.. seems normal from posts liek this one Hesitation to "Unclutch" then "reclutch" An excerpt of one post in that thread.. found it interesting in that the obvious choice is almost counter - intuitive. You might be forgiven that Petrol stations would be against having BEV's pull up at their locations. The fact that they have permission, seemingly Government backed, to have access for an initial 15years, to 200 out of 24...

thought I would try and track down the post I had read about clipper creek , and issues charging Volts.
