Re: PIP-4048MS and PIP-5048MS inverters

I'm new to this forum here. Welcome to the forum. I ... own a PIP 4048, which showed error Error 99 after some time. Did you mean fault code 90 (error 90)? If you have a genuine PIP-4048MS, this should never happen, but it does seem to have happened to some. In case it's not genuine, you should che...

Re: Solar day parking with AC charging

Utilise a signal on the grid, similar to off peak, that signals ev charge points to turn on when there is excess feed in. I like that idea. And it could even use the same signal that is already deployed widely to turn on loads as needed, just that those loads were usually at night, and usually wate...

the easy way is to do a 2s4p, but will the amp be too high here?
That won't be too much current, under 40 A, but it might be a bit weaker than 3S2P in shady conditions. I'd say it's your best option.

Re: PIP-5048MK inverter

We use Tindo 275w panels that are 36v open circuit, the 3S keeps the open circuit voltage below the 145v mark, Yes. Tindo 275 W panels are 60 cell, so 3S is fine for a 145 V max solar charge controller. But many panels are 72 cell these days, and 3S causes too-high panel voltages. I know you unders...

i exceeded the specs on the mk (150VoC) and above 115 MPPT, then i saw a lot of dips, now i am back to 3x40VoC and apprx 92-ish MPPT, now everything is back to normal Well, I thought excessive PV voltage was one of the first things suggested. Sorry, I should have noticed the PV voltage peaks in the...

Re: Prelude conversion project - some questions

And now it turns out the CAN-bus controlled charger won't go as low as 301 V max. 320 V is the lowest it will go. Grrr! Huh? Surely you can just ask for a lower voltage in the CAN packets. I've tested EV chargers on my 50 V solar energy system, but certainly there is a lower limit. In the 6.6 kW ra...

Re: Prelude conversion project - some questions

It gave a red-red..green green error, which is of course not documented anywhere in the instruction manual. Typical. I found a lot of undocumented or poorly documented error codes with the older chargers. So we added pins to the Enable lines - D and F according to the manual. ... Once these were co...

Re: 3 phase supply but no 415v connections

Hmmm..... that 3 phase hybrid inverter won't do the job if it can only provide 3.3kW because there is a single phase monster ducted air con unit that can suck a peak 26.4 amps... That's OK, just don't put it on the essential loads output. Because it's a hybrid, the grid will supply some of it and s...

Re: Kona Charging at Fast Chargers

Oh ... I thought I had read 100kW ... is that AC at 100kW and DC at 70kW and onboard at 7.2kw? AC charging is always through the on board charger (OBC). That's limited to 7.2 kW, so AC charging is limited to 7.2 kW. To get a higher AC charging rate, the on board charger would have to be upgraded. S...

Re: 3 phase supply but no 415v connections

This 3 phase inverter is 10kW, is that a 3333w per phase limit, or can it shift output from one phase to another as required to a max of 10kW? It's 3.33 kW per phase, so no one phase can be transferring more than 3.33 kW at any one time (with allowance for short term overloads). However, within tho...

Re: Home charging

For a Leaf, I assume that 3 phase charging is overkill though seems not much in it for pricing. Three phase or not would be decided by (1) if you car can use three phase (I assume that Leaf 2.0 can as it uses type 2 connectors, earlier models can not as they use the J1772 type 1 connector), and (2)...

Re: Home charging

Pics below show what happens to normal leads with extended EV charging use. We've argued this before (back in 2013). A properly prepared and maintained GPO and plug won't overheat like that. Re: 3 phase outlet, what is suitable for EV charging?

22 kW is 32 A per phase (230 x 3 x 32 = 22,080). And 240 volts X 1.732 (square root of 3 (phases) ) = 415 volts Sure, 415 V phase to phase. But with 3-phase loads, either the voltage or current gets split such that the load only sees 1/√3 times that voltage or current. So either the 415 V is split ...

Re: 3 phase outlet, what is suitable for EV charging?

So, that would be the circuit to supply one or more 3 phase EV chargers? I never did get my head around how 3 phase converted to watts, 22kW appears to be the biggest expected demand, 22 kW is 32 A per phase (230 x 3 x 32 = 22,080). would this cabling and circuit breaker be sufficient to supply 2 u...

I can't read anything on the transformer name plate... Wow. That looks (to my amateur eye) to be at least a 100 kVA transformer. Somewhat overkill, I think, but it's probably the smallest that the utility company deals with. The circuit breaker and cable I'd be most interested in using is a 3 phase...

What do you recommend as an appropriate battery settings for a VRLA 24v battery set-up because I feel that "back to battery" at 27v may be too low? Settings 12 and 13 are about "rescuing" the battery when it gets quite low in SOC. So setting 13 is supposed to be when the battery is back from that s...

Climate control mod to turn off heater

One of the niggles with the early Leafs is there is no separate button to turn off the heater. So it's a hassle to just get the fan circulating air, without using main battery energy to produce heat (and it's a resistive heater, not a heat pump, in the early models). Weber kindly pointed me to this ...
