Re: Prelude conversion project - some questions

I think I can make it all fit, but geez it's tight... Spare a thought for the designers of ICE or hybrid cars. Thousands of moving parts, many that get hot, the rest mustn't get hot, and you might be using an engine from another model or even another manufacturer, so you have no control over where ...

I suggest you post your ICC queries in the following forum, where the author is active: https://powerforum.co.za/forum/94-axpert-control-software/ If you decide to use your own software, you should use PV power where possible, as the SCC charge current is estimated and only provided in whole amps. I...

Re: PIP-5048MK inverter

On Web Site, they answer me it is able to work without battery even if I insisted on this requirement. On the other side, on Aliexpress official MPP Solar store, they write : ' if you don't like to have battery , please only consider PIP5048MG or or 3024GK , 5048GK model' !!! My understanding is th...

Also, it's IP20, a little short of one of your criteria :o

New standard coming https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gl0mBaX1mYU&feature=youtu.be Wow! That's a big change to AS5139 for battery standards. PIP systems with their 115 V PV (or higher) will no longer be exempt from LV standards, so they'll need earth leakage detection, battery terminal covers, and so...

if it will do type 2 or stuck with type 1 .. It looks like a type 1 (J1772) setup, as is common in the USA with their single phase preference. But all you probably need is a cable like this one to adapt a type 2 EVSE to what I presume will be your type 1 socket: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/3272...

Re: Is anyone using an arc welder with an offgrid system

What is unusual is the broken left leg. Ooh! Well spotted! :geek: If this is the gate then that is floating. Well, it's on the left where all gates seem to be, and it goes into a PCB hole marked with a capital "G". I'd say it's the gate :) I agree; a floating gate is a Bad Thing™. With luck, the si...

It does however show a command for querying what the output source priority setting is, for every hour of the day (QOPPT). And the same for charge source priority (QCHPT). Duh. I've finally realised that there's nothing non-standard about Tesla destination EVSEs, except that they provide a cord and you can't use your own. There's also nothing non-standard about the type 2 to type 2 cord I found at Orion shopping centre. It's a deliberate incompatibility to prevent usi...

Hack it.
But @Jeff Owen tells me that if I do that, there is a chance that some type 2 sockets won't engage fully, and will either be loose or perhaps won't allow charging.

Can someone speak from experience: will a shortened type 2 socket work with the vast majority of type 2 EVSEs?

Re: EV Conversion battery requirements

is a contactor also the same as a relay, or is there a crucial difference? There is no crucial difference in use, just in construction. A relay has a hinge; a contactor does not. For EV purposes, contactors are the larger ones, capable of higher currents. We might use a relay for 12 V circuits, usu...

In March 2018, in the South East Electric Highway (NSW/Vic coast) topic : I have proven that it is possible to use Tesla Destination Chargers with my T2>T1 adapter, so if you turn them on, on PlugShare, it looks even better. My type 2 to type 1 5 metre adapter cable arrived today, and I tested it at...

doesn't have a "real" ELM327 chip in it - they only appear to come in 28 lead DIP or SMD packages. Ah! I can see a 28-pin SMD package in the Vgate one. Also, the page you linked to specifies a 4.00 MHz crystal - the cheap blue one has a 24 MHz crystal. If the real ELM327 really costs CA$15 in 1000+...

Does that sound like there is no bootstrapper and therefore firmware update is not possible? Sadly, yes it does. You do have a clone with the '¢' instead of 'ϕ' on the sticker with the bar-code, and those clones tend to not have a bootstrap loader, according to my notes. It seems that you can obtai...

OBD II dongles for LeafSpy

Often when an IGBT or MOSFET fails, the gate shorts to other terminals, and can blow up resistors and transistors in the gate driver circuit . There ...
