Electric MINI in 2019

I've been pestering every BMW rep I've met about the EV Minis I saw in magazines years ago, but have always been told they were only a testbed for the i3. But it looks like that's changing: http://www.theverge.com/2016/10/2/13141044/bmw-producing-electric-x3-mini-vehicles-cars I'll mortgage my house...

iOS version of EvBatMon for iMiEV and PHEV

I'm transitioning to a new Android phone so may reinstall it soon - there's been enough quirks with my existing one that I'm no longer willing to blame apps 100%. And EvBatMon worked better on a cheapie phone I was testing than on my high-end one anyway!

Recalls 2016

> Anyone else with a 2010 found more RR predicted range after their recalls were done? I don't see how you could tell - temperature variations in the mornings can affect my range estimate more than a few km either way, plus I rarely let it charge up to 100%. This morning it was at 100% and I saw the...

Recalls 2016

FWIW it seems to me my new brake vacuum pump is somewhat quieter, for whatever reason.

And reecho - I remember reading that the iMiev battery pack was $11k when they were first released, but are now down to more like $6k and falling.

Either way, I hope I never have to find out!

Recalls 2016

I took my iMiev in several weeks ago (soon as I saw this thread in fact) and they said they'd have to order parts for it - so finally, last week I get a call, and the other day I took it back in. Everything seems OK, I just found the long delay a bit odd. Looks like they replaced the vacuum pump, di...

Did I break any laws?

Thanks for the feedback, guys. I don't expect to get caught out on that again but would have hated to be running afoul of some regulation and potentially giving EV owners a bad name... I don't know about the "20 cents" figure, but it is very difficult to pull more than about $1-2/hr through an ordin...

Did I break any laws?

So yesterday I'm out on a country drive with the kids. A few factors came together to result in my iMiev not having enough range to get home - I ended up stuck about 10km out with 2% left (very hilly terrain). I called my wife to come get the boys, and when she arrived I asked her about our RACV cov...

Rego discounts for EV?

Asking on behalf of my wife, who's been getting inconsistent answers from VicRoads -

Is there, or is there not, a rego discount for EVs? My understanding is that the discount applies to hybrids (presumably because they're still paying some petrol tax) and full EV cars are not eligible.

3D printing replacement parts

I agree a salvage yard would be ideal, but I'm not sure how to go about finding one with a good selection of cars only 4-5 years old! The ones near me which have stock lists online have only one or two Mitsubishis, and they're from the 90s...

3D printing replacement parts

While you might buy a 3D printer for $450 you will need to spend 3 to 4 times that to buy something half decent to produce a repair worthy of buying one. I have a friend in England that has bought about 3 or 4 printers over $1000, and each one of them has required modification to provide half decen...

Is the review mirror a generic part that is used on several Mitsubishi models? It might be worth checking if a similar vintage lancer, mirage or the like has the identical mirrors (perhaps at a lower list price) Well that's something I'd love to know too, but how to check? I don't expect Mitsubishi...

3D printing replacement parts

I've damaged the passenger-side mirror on my iMiev, and while it still more or less works, there's definitely some broken plastic parts inside (plus, the outer shell is being held on by tape now!) A replacement will run me something like $450, and the thought occurred to me, I can get a 3D printer f...

Batteries

Mitsubishi suggests the battery pack should last for 10 years in many cases, and even after that it can still be used for household energy storage apparently. The replacement cost of the battery pack has fallen quite a bit in the 6 years since the iMiev showed up - currently just over half the origi...

FWIW I've never had an SDcard in my 2010 - and while it worked fine for the first several months after I got it last year, it's been taking longer and longer to sync after getting on the road lately. It seems to be confused more often about which direction I'm going too. Will be keeping an eye on it...

I just thought back to last year's EV Expo at Swinburne and one of the pics I took - this is before I bought an iMiev and even before we got bikes for the whole family, but now that I give the photo a second look, it seems almost like a bike rack!
