The EV pledge

Hey Ian,

As much as I'd love to, the down side is that I semi-frequently drive Sydney to Melbourne return in 24 hours.

There's barely enough time for a quick nap, let alone EV charging every hundred kilometres.

Unless someone's hiding an EV with 2000k range that I'm not aware of :P

Deeper look at electrics?

Hey all, I watched the episode on SBS the other day about the future of cars, and was highly disappointed. Like a lot of people, having seen 'Who killed the electric car?' is why I came here in the first place. Does anyone have any documentaries that delve in to electric cars? I'm interested in the ...

Sydney Lurkers

I read somewhere on the AEVA site that we were looking at filling in the gap-month with workshops at Les'? Whatever it is, workshop or social, I'd love to come along. If it was a more informal get-together, for say a bite to eat and a chat, do you think there would still be 50 people attending? --St...

Direct drive points.

I've had a look at the Escort panel van route, and it seems to be a winner. There's a couple of them on eBay. The only one I'm interested in is $3000 with no bids (not that I'm ready to start making purchases just yet). As for high performance and good range: When I'm driving it to/from work, I'll b...

Reva update.

Hey all, A few days ago I emailed Solarshop to see if they had any updates on the Reva, as there had not been any new information on their website in two years. The response I received can be seen below. Reva are asking for people to contact the Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Devel...

Direct drive points.

@Priit: I thing 25k covers about my entire budget for the conversion. :P @fbear: I have a Telstar at the moment, and the thing weighs 1350 kilos. I would much rather start with something in the 1000-1100 kilo range, like a Laser or a Capri. A Courier Ute has been suggested, and certainly isn't out o...

Direct drive points.

Hey FBear! Thanks for the encouragement. I'm very new to the EV thing, and have no working knowledge of electricity or mechanics/gearboxes/diffs, so some of the things I ask may be a little daft. In the end, I want a small car (must be a Ford), and I want it to be quick. I would be chasing a 0-100 (...

Direct drive points.

Hey guys, I'm curious about the points at which you can attach an electric motor to the car that you are converting. Obviously making an adapter plate to mount it on to the standard gearbox seems to be fairly popular. I've also read about people removing the gearbox, and attaching the motor to the d...

Hi everyone!

Hey Matt,

Thanks for the welcome.
I've been doing a LOT of reading here, and I'll give evdl a bit of a go when I'm working on the weekend next.

I'm hoping to get out and meet some of the Sydney crowd at some point.
Checking each day to see if a workshop will be on for July.

Kearon's EV Capri

Hey Kearon,

Them's pretty big boobs for a bloke ;)

The extra 4" in height is a worrying thing.

Any chance I could drop over at some point, and check out the car (as well as have a sit in it). Promise I won't hit the brake pedal :P

Kearon's EV Capri

Hey Kearon, I've just watched episode three, and in follow-up to our email conversation, I'd like to know how tall you are. I'm 6'4", so I'm thinking that a Capri may not be the car for me. Time to look for alternatives. Possible a KC/KE Laser. I love the video-blog format. Keep up the fantastic wor...

Hi everyone!

Hey all, I'm Striker, fairly new to the whole EV thing, and looking for info. The other half has said I can build an EV, so that's half of my problems out of the way :P (The other half being that I type for a living, and while I have some theoretical knowledge about Fords, I have nothing that's usab...
