Malm, 2011 i-MiEV, Portugal

My recharging kWh is 8% less on a warm day 30 deg and 12% less on a cold day 10 deg at 78,549km. This is based on 16.5kWh that I would charge when new. Kurt, I though I saw a post from you where you had put 17.5 kWh in from the wall ? I did question it at the time. Maybe just a typo or a reado    ht...

Thinking out loud.... The cells were nominally 50Ah at new and the voltage during discharge is an almost linear ramp from 4.105V down as they discharge, around 3.6V at 10% SOC. average around 3.85V. This suggests 50 x 88 x 3.85 = 16.94kWh This should have taken the imiev the 160km stated in the sale...

So when the connector gets damaged and then used in an EV and damages the connector in the EV, who is liable ? I guess that replacement of either part will start at $1,000 Perhaps a plastic latch is extreme optimism for the real world ? Now, I have a spare electric fence energiser.... works on cattl...

This is all exciting stuff ! So, what is the best web site for a day by day update of the charging stations actually on line ? I keep getting asked but like my age, it keeps changing http://forums.aeva.asn.au/smileys/smiley2.gif It needs to be a site that the media can easily access so any news arti...

Did I sense a tectonic shift today ? The media was full of the electric highway launch. There was a drop in new ICE vehicle prices and the floor has dropped away some more on second hand vehicles. I remember when cars used to burn fossil fuels http://forums.aeva.asn.au/smileys/smiley2.gif Mind you, ...

Rusdy, I would not suggest feeding DC to the onboard AC charger or any SMPS without clearly understanding the circuitry and adding DC rated fusing. There must not be SCR, Triac or contactors in line as these will fail to function on DC. For instance the EVSE contains a contractor that will arc and f...

Drive around Australia or in fact the world. Remember Loius Palmer and the solar taxi ? Good observation about the plus and minus of carrying extra luggage e.g. Batteries. In the case of the solar taxi, the solar panel trailer caused more drag than the power gain and the 'vehicle' could travel furth...

I would plan to fill at Mandurah with FC to 80% + 1 hour at 3.3kW for 100% and ejerry can in the back with 2kWh as backup. I regularly get over 100km with a few kWh left. The infill FC will be good when online. What time scale ?

Well done Chris !
Now, everyone USE the highway !

Mandurah, Bunbury, Busselton are the ones I want, all on line by the end of the month.
I'll be heading south for sure.

Hey Chris, what RFID card is required ?

Good to see another ejerrycan !
Similar performance to mine, just Kurt's is at 48V rather than 12V.
One plus with the 12V version is the BMS isn't actually required as the 10.5V shutdown on the inverter protects cells from undervoltage.

Some "don'ts" for EV building

Yes, a little knowledge can be the problem. Maybe the parts selector or assembler decided that a 250A fuse must be twice as good as a 125A fuse ! ..... And that corrosion may be an issue so let's paint the plain steel washers. Then the assembler comes along and as weber says.. Let's fill that gap .....

Some "don'ts" for EV building

Well... The cable lug should be in direct contact with the fuse. The flat washer and spring washer should be copper at best then plated steel or stainless as lesser options and be under the nut as a mechanical restraint and the working current should not have its primary path through the washers, nu...

17.5kWh ! well there is a difference. I have never been able to put more than 16.5kWh from wall in on 10A charge at new and now it is more like 14.8 to 15kWh (wall + remaining charge). Your 14.588 is still according to canion out. Have you logged recharge in on canion as well ? I understand your log...

Martin, nice set of data. It would be good to complete the picture and log the recharge as well. Both the canion data and a total kWh recorded from the power point would be useful. My best run was 129km with 2bars left on energy meter. It will be interesting to see mitsi' response to the range that ...

OK, I will specifically look for the pause with canion though it has never captured one before. Strange, I nearly always have a power meter in line and half my charges are daytime. Kurt, I have never seen or logged the pause in 74,000km. That doesn't mean that it hasn't happened of course. I might have been asleep on the majority of 10A charges that weren't logged. Can you check your logs and see what the battery temperatures, voltages, start SOC etc were at the pause time ? I ...

Fair comment about balance with repaired tyres ... that prompted me to weigh a cord.
2.1g , though probably less when the tails are trimmed off.
That is less than half the smallest 5g ? weight used by dynamic ballancers.

I think Weber may be on the track of wanting to see the waveform from the PIP. I have viewed the voltage waveform from numerous inverters and gensets with an oscilloscope while charging my i . I have found the LF pure sine inverters to be the cleanest though often less correct sine shape. On some HF...

Canion does not give recharge from the power point information.
Use an energy meter at the power point. This gives the completely independent and beyond question consumption from the wall. It is the Wh/km derived from this that allows true comparison between all plug in EVs.
