Multimeter strange behaviour.

The roll over error when reversing the leads is not uncommon. At +-.06% in your example of reversing leads is around .12% (.06% each way) so basically within spec. in my thinking. The +2 digits is +-2 digits and is just that, +-2 of the display digits Having said that, your observation on changing r...

The iMIEV gear train is designed and clearly functions with torque in both directions and with rotation foward and backwards. Don't the axial forces of helical cut gears reverse with torque reversal so I am thinking that rotation reversal would be fine as the gear train design covers that axial forc...

iMiEV has a "black box" recorder

http://forums.aeva.asn.au/smileys/smiley36.gif ok, so we are all armchair detectives. Just thinking, if this was a fuel injected motor then knowing the injector pulse width ratio may be more useful in establishing the engine power since airflow through inlet manifold is an emission controlled funct...

iMiEV has a "black box" recorder

That may just mean that we don't understand the throttle number vs accelerator number. Maybe 24 is the position for idle ? And there is a skew in the data logging, like a software dash pot. Someone might explain. Anyway, the vehicle was way over the speed limit in hoon territory and would have taken...

Interesting link there TooQik. http://forums.aeva.asn.au/smileys/smiley20.gif So the lack of power wasting hypoid gears in the imiev drive train is why mitsi can run ATF rather than syrup hypoid oil. I wonder if credit should be allowed to mitsi if they designed the drivetrain truly bidirectional gi...

'1 speed Transmission' is a reduction gear set (7.065:1 to wheels) driving directly to the crown wheel of the rear differential (RWD) via independent half shafts. Motor is permanently coupled and forward/reverse/neutral are electronic functions. The gearbox contains an auto transmission type parkin...

Whine ? No way. The IMiEV reverse is just emotor running in reverse so you can do that by the wiring changes already mentioned. There is no helical cut 90 deg direction change pinion gear with direction preference as Jonny suggested. All drive from emotor to wheels is parallel, there is no 90deg tra...

Just swap two phase wires of the 3 going to emotor and swap the A and B lines of the encoder. Motor controller then thinks motor is running forward, but in fact will be running in reverse direction to the RWD IMiEV. The gears won't care. They are bidirectional of course. The emotor itself will be qu...

Australia's first Electric Highway!

Gabz, I think Chris can safely claim ' first public electric highway ' status.    After all, this one is actually consumer driven and not just another 'trial'. -20 C ? It is often 60 deg warmer than that here. It is amazing the battery works at both extremes. Just thinking about the '3.5kW' generator idea. check here Such a gen would likely deliver 2.2kW to charger and less than 2kW to the vehicle battery after charger losses. 2kW x 3 hours = 6kWh and this...

+1 what Kurt said. Settle for 10A charging.

I don't think there will be significant change if the motor is run in.
Truth is that most small gens lose power with use not gain it.

Remember that if the gen has an eco switch then turn it off. This gives the motor max revs before the load comes on.
That gen will charge EV at 10 amps of course.

That unfortunately is typical of the domestic generator market..... vast over claim of capacity. If you can believe the specs at all, look at the 299g/kWh and 16L tank for 8.5hrs. This will be for motor kW output (not at socket) so reduce by 80% for alternator efficiency and 90% for pure sine invert...

Canion monitors the DC current going from the onboard charger to the battery pack. The data for this comes from the battery management system current sensor(s).
