Re: OpenEVSE Charging Station any Users?

Thanks for your replies, Those OpenEVSE photos are great. Is that 3 phase unit squeezed into a smaller local box, I can't judge the dimensions of box and those thicker cables? Chris, I will also require a single phase unit for my EV, so the convenience of lighter weight and more flexible cables sho...

Re: OpenEVSE Charging Station any Users?

OpenEVSE has been brilliant so far. I have assembled a single phase version with 32A 3 phase plug for my Kona and also a 3 phase 32A version with long leads for a spare. They don't out of the box have DC offset protection but that can be mitigated with a correctly chosen RCBO in the supply. I use th...

Re: I bought a ...... Leaf!

I'm eagerly awaiting a 3rd party battery upgrade available in Australia at a sensible cost (am I dreaming?). Nissan Australia have a $9990 battery swap program but the vehicle needs to meet certain criteria for approval. On the aftermarket front solutions are available to enable 30 and 40Kwh batter...

Perhaps the space saver spare wheel that comes with the petrol Kona will then fit in the rear.
They don't. Some new Kona ICE models now have pump and goo as well.

Get a 10A or even an 8A portable evse for travelling. Then you can plug into any 10A powerpoint safely.
The EVSE supplied with the Kona and Ioniq are 6/8/10A adjustable via press button on the back...

Do you have a phone that supports Android Auto or Apple Carplay?

That would be the better way to go. $200 won't go far though. they start around the $400 mark..

Re: Kona AC charging question

Any EVSE set to a lower limit will be fine. I built my 3.6kW portable EVSE specifically for caravan park 15A outlets. Worked perfectly on the EV Long Weekend tour with my Kona. 😊 BTW, from memory the Kona itself can be set for lower charge rates if you want it to. Cheers Bryce Thanks. I realise the...

How about some light reading while you are waiting for the car to arrive... :-)

Re: Kona Charging at Fast Chargers

Oh ... I thought I had read 100kW ... is that AC at 100kW and DC at 70kW and onboard at 7.2kw? AC charging is always through the on board charger (OBC). That's limited to 7.2 kW, so AC charging is limited to 7.2 kW. To get a higher AC charging rate, the on board charger would have to be upgraded. S...

Re: Tesla PW2

So the original grid tie inverter would have to be removed to be able to fit the Powerwall? Here in South Australia, as soon as you touch anything to do with a grid tie system, the whole thing has to be renegotiated and generally results in a much smaller feed in tariff. The 6kW solar and 15.5kWh b...

Re: Kona Clunking

There has been bad clunking in some early build Kona Electrics, but I haven't seen it mentioned with any RHD cars worldwide. Sounds like driveshaft binding. Other issues have been rear caliper knock on reversing. I get that on mine but it's quite random any only when it's been sitting stationary. My...

115Wh/km in the city and around 145Wh/km on the highway. My worst so far was 171Wh/km on an extended country trip with heavy rain, strong winds, standing water, elevation changes and mostly highway speeds.
