Sydney Royal Easter Show

I just got a call from the guy who's setting up for the EV display at the Sydney Royal Easter Show on Weds 11th April 2012 I'm taking the van, and am just curious to see if any other AEVA members will be there. Apparently the EV section will be right near the front gates, which ought to make it a gr...

how to brick a Tesla

Interesting article about the undiscussed likelihood of "bricking" your Tesla to the tune of $40k.

yeah, fair call on the curly cords, and the hanging from the roof thing, but a mute point if I currently just park in my driveway with no garage nearby. It's a 15 metre 10amp cord for me. That said, I've actually worked past the annoyance and now treat it as just another small daily chore. Really, i...

Curtis 1231C, pedal and heatsink

I have a few excess items left over from my conversion which I've put up for sale on eBay. 1) A Curtis 1231C-8601 controller, with FB6 footpedal. I never used this controller or pedal, since I decided to install the Zeva instead. I bought it from Swinburne Uni and they had only used it twice. Both i...

LiFePo for noobs

Fair call and a healthy warning. So what IS going to happen to my battery pack if my EV gauge (X-pert Pro) fails silently, or my charger just doesn't charge my van properly, and I head out unwittingly to drain the battery. Is it that I'll be just cruising along, slowly the ooomph starts to fade, and...

LiFePo for noobs

OK, just wanting to clarify something about LiFePo batteries. (Just for the numbers, my pack is 45x LiFePo 180AHA CALB cells.) Hypothetical situation here as an EV driver 1) I am armed only with a voltmeter/ammeter to measure total pack voltage/amps. 2) I have no prior knowledge of how much charge i...

Cheers lads, was a pleasure to meet and chat. Always good to bash heads on similar interests... it makes the process of EV conversion feel a little less solo. I'll definitely come to some future events, although according to Googlemaps, Castle Hill is pushing the envelope of "too far" for the van if...

gholm's Morris J2 Van- 1966

When I was a kid, my dad had a van that I seem to remember looked very much like yours, only it was an Austin. Were they just rebadged? Yep, although like every British car story, it's a bit twisted. The Morris J2 (mine) and the Austin 152 are essentially identical, except for the front grill. The ...

Karma perhaps. http://forums.aeva.asn.au/uploads/1656/dayAfterRego.jpg They did a good job, it ain't concourse-perfect but it's close enough f...

After a few weeks of mad rush, finding and commissioning a new engineer (thanks John at Consulmotive!!) obtaining a blue slip, then gathering all necessary docs (an incredulous amount), I have just walked out of the RTA office with a valid registration sticker which means MY VAN IS NO...

Good choice on the LiFePo, but although you physically will be able to run the cells without BMS, every manufacturer states specifically that you shouldn't, otherwise you'll void the warranty. Also, chargers are usually controlled by BMS, so you'll otherwise need to make sure you have a system that ...

Yep, he had plenty to say about it. My understanding is that the current scheme doesn't end until the end of Sept. It was only online applications that finished on the 22nd Aug. The whole change of scheme is a real sh*t fight for all the currently certified engineers. Basically the RTA are stopping ...

Ok almost ready to have this thing certified. I took it to Consulmotive the other day, and John mentioned his wish list for finalities. 1) Basically I need to make sure all bolts in my battery box are of the hightensile kind, including the big metal brackets that hold the box onto the chassis frame....

Groan...that is NOT good news. I'm easily within a bees dick of getting my van certified and then in the same week, I discover my engineer is off on holidays for 6 weeks, and this change in the certification process falls earlier!! gahh So... I now have to find an amendable engineer to take a look a...

EV2Go's - Lithium Powered Trike

Hey ev2go, just curious as to how you plan to cool your motor, and whether you still plan to lop off the non-drive shaft on the fan end. Let me know, I'm using my Kostov with its fan and it's very loud when at speed. I gathering ideas for an electric thermo-controlled jobbie and was wondering about ...

Thanks AMPrentice. It's is a unique vehicle for sure. Now to get in certified.... I have run into an interesting dilemma. I have wired in my e_Xpert Pro with prescaler and it works fine except it loses power each time I cut the main contactor. This means it resets, and every time I start the van, it...

Was that motor amps or battery amps? controllers are rated in motor amps, battery amps only = motor amps when motor voltage has reached battery voltage. Not sure of the difference. The shunt is between the B- on the controller and the negative of the pack. What does that mean? (I'm guessing battery...

Wipers are on/off, no dual speed fancy-schmancy stuff.

I agree on pushing the pos-to-neg earth conversion for future ease-of-use. Will definitely ponder.
