Re: gholm's Morris J2 Van- 1966
The time has come, the time is now...The van is for sale. I moved house and now I have nowhere to work on it nor any realistic possibility of getting a powerpoint at my car spot. So the gods have spoken and I have to let it go to a good home. https://forums.aeva.asn.au/viewtopic.php?f=34&t=6101#p740...

Re: gholm's Morris J2 Van- 1966
Hey T1Terry I have no idea though since my gauge monitors the battery side (not motor side) I can see that I rarely pull more than 340A, roughly 1.9C out of my 180AHA . That'd be be max they ever see. I know since the BMS starts beeping as the voltage drops too far at that rate. I can get around tow...

Re: gholm's Morris J2 Van- 1966
Hey there again Jonescg and Johny Actually, spiders haven't been an issue so this one caught me by surprise. That you mentioned oil/gas fumes made me realise it could be that the underside of the van is still pretty greasy. I left it alone for sake of rust prevention, and so apparently it prevents s...

Re: gholm's Morris J2 Van- 1966
Hello again everyone! Happy Christmas and New Year for all your wonderful EV peeps. Thought I'd better check in with updates seeing as it's been a while (over 3 years!) as I'm *sure* you've all been just hanging out for updates.. Yes, the J2ev is happily still on the road as my daily driver, a...

Yes, exactly. I've had a few times where I've mentioned it's electric and they've looked at me as if I'd just given birth to a camel. Then I've spent the next hour or so explaining why/how/who/what/where etc to the nth degree. Nowadays I just look for the expression on their face as I "start 'er up"...

gholm's Morris J2 Van- 1966
Hi all Been a solid year for me but interestingly uneventful in regards to the van with zero crucial maintenance and only minor tweaks. Things I've done/learned/have happened. 1) The van's 12v (non-traction) electric system will start and run on 6v ... actually 5.9v to be exact. I know this because ...

Nah, no discount for EVs in NSW for rego, greenslip or insurance.... (none I'm aware of anyway)
No biggie.. us EVers get the discount from lack of fuel excise.

Ah yes, thanks Rich.
The Coolant loops are a bit hard to decipher too... nonetheless it shows the level of sophistication needed for a 'bulletproof' 85kwhr battery.
So many cells. Imagine spot-welding them all by hand!!!!!

The service cost of running an EV definitely need to be included in the arguable running costs don't they. Definitely. People just don't realise that a bit of pain ($) up front can save soo much more hassle and $$ pain later on. The hassle of leaving a car for a few days for service, The hassle of ...

Without anywhere else to gloat, I thought I'd come here and preach to the converted instead. I just had my annual pink slip inspection and "service". $37 for the piece of pink paper. $30 for a flush of brake fluid, and a grease gun into every nipple. Thats it. Total $67 And yet some people still won...

Someone say Kombi? :) Dunno if a 48v motor will do much, but holy hell, Geerant's AC motor coupled with the Tritium...now we're talking..... Don't forget... these batteries weigh a good bit more than lugging a few fat passengers, so having that extra grunt onboard will be needed to keep up with dail...

Right..nice link.. I hadn't heard of ZBB. In reading more, this paper/research was sponsored by ARPA-Energy.. the US Govt Advanced Research... so really deep pockets delving into storage solutions for wind and solar, so I'm guessing system weight and single-cell power output aren't supposed to be a ...

Twin 9 inch vs twin 11 inch
Interesting. I imagined the 11" motors would have a higher I2R rating owing to their larger thermal mass, but if what you're saying is true, then using the 9inch versions makes total sense.
Thanks all.

Twin 9 inch vs twin 11 inch
Apologies for the noob question but I can't help but wonder why the ev drag racing fraternity seem to prefer the twin 9 inch motors in their DC racing setups to the clearly more powerful 11 inch versions. Is there some unseen advantage that I've missed? I would have thought the dual 11" kostov or ne...

Actually, no, I had no idea it was hydroscopic. Interesting. The brake lines are in excellent condition, but it can't hurt to be extra wary on the pH levels. external appearance has no bearing on the internal pitting etc. Good to now be in the know. Good call and I will definitely keep an eye on them. When I converted, I had the brakes cleaned out, all pads and hoses replaced, and the engineer remarked how sturdy they were. Both him and the blue-slip guy said they were overengineered for the vehicle (the van was originally built to carry 15cwt ...
