Regenerative braking

You would make a killing if you could build 100kW controllers for $2,500! When are you taking orders ? That's the price suggested by that Microchip-CircuitCellar/Canadian university opensource 100kW AC drive project (parts only), if you add assembly/admin work overhead it could be sold around $3.5k...

Thanks for doing further researching into industrial grade VFDs on the market, but currently Danfoss & Allen-Bradley & Teco are the "most tested" brands by diyers. It's kind of frustrating because strictly automotive inverter, in the category of peak power ~60kW should be relatively cheap in big pro...

100kW AC Inverter Project (Opensource)

Just to bump up or refine this important thread, hah. There seems to be at least two independent replication projects of that CircuitCellar/Microchip AC drive design currently under way. They are trying to refine it also from the angle of safety and better user control options (usb comm., regen, dri...

Mal, yes I know why you are after lead acids, makes sense in diy high voltage AC conversions, before the lithium gets more field tested (calendar life) & the upfront price goes susbtantialy down (not likely, they rather improve the overall cost of ownership/per km). My point was that you are indeed ...

The Evisol 200kW inverter is priced at ~$13k, now finding some new 10k rmp >150kW (peak) emotor won't be easy, these are special order/OEM only, most luckily you can perhaps get the original GM(ACP) EV1/S10 incl. reductor as leftover item from ebay/EV repair company for much less. http://www.metricm...

The following thread contains important discussion and source files about ~100kW AC inverter (opensource project) from canadian university: http://forums.aeva.asn.au/viewtopic.php?t=161&start=1 ---- OK, I'll repost the summary here, not to go offtopic on that thread.. ---- "The rated continuous outp...

"The rated continuous output current from the inverter is 200A (RMS). This allows up to approximately 96kW output when running from a 230 to 480VDC voltage in a maximum 30°C (85F) ambient temperature environment." Hi Tony, there seems to be fully documented opensource 100kW AC inverter project (for...

..If going F(front)WD means you have to retain the gearbox then it would put me off.. Again, that takes us back to the ever elusive question of suitable donor platform options! Here is some interesting info on gearbox efficiency optimization, e.g. getting rid of the 5th gear, reverse etc. Might not be applicable on other manuf. designs.. Both clutch/freewheel and completely clutchless (gutted tranny) conversion methods could benefit: http://www.amphibike.org/index.cgi?page...

Sorry I ever mentioned the frypan !!! Rolling resistance is less with direct drive and an AC motor than with a gearbox and a brushed DC motor (or two). AC induction motors spins incredibly freely at thousands of RPM. No brush drag. The difference is even more than putting an ICE in neutral since th...

Lets add few interesting regen hints from the pros (ACP), mainly from their Scion bx (Ebox) project and general ACP150gen2 powertrain properties. I think many of these can be utilized in diy "Danfoss" drivetrain setups as well.. ACP is probably the most advanced system on the planet, so take their >...

Hi, thanks for your latest blog update, the battery cycling setup is awsome! Besides that Paukert related testing are you considering to perform some long deep cycle testing like in hundreds of 50-80% DoD cycles, could it be somehow more automated? But primarily, I'm wondering why you are so keen on...

Source of air condition parts?

Hi, a4x4kiwi and several other members posted their plans to hack air condition into their conversions, in my geo location this is not necessary, but as I've seen the recent climate change models this might quickly change for the worse here as well.. Anyway, here is an interesting $10 ebayish hack, ...

By accident and as former (well this is eternal) SAAB lover I've found this vintage and very RARE TV footage depicting 1970s coupe Sonett conversion and all aspects of the EV technology.
