I always liked the idea and this particular setup as well, but on second glance it seems to me like a gasoline time bomb on little wheels, especially in diy setup..

AC motors, multipoles, torque

I just like to add that from power/torque curves (could be dated) for Azure/Solectria AC55 system, they apparently peaked in power at 4000rpm and 1500-2000rpm in torque, so that sounds to be in line with the "hacked" industrial low speed VFDs approach.. On the other hand, the top tier guys like Siem...

Clarify & Mudify, lol, thanks. Yes, I guesstimated you plan to charge upto 3.8V only. I'll try to consult the DC bus question with the other vfd brand specialist as to whether or not this is yet another DAN feature only.. So, to summarize this thread, in order to have very light & aero passanger car...

Voltage can vary from 470V (low voltage cutout point) to 750V (fully charged after regen). This means that the motor voltage can be from 336VAC to 536VAC and this has a considerable effect on max torque. Sorry if explained in other thread (couldn't find it), but how do you go about 704VDC (3.2V x 2...

Yes, Mitsu should be applauded for this bold decision to make their kei car (Miev) based on multi drivetrain platform (ICE, EV, ..) I think you can get the Miev (ICE ver.) in UK for some time already and with good reviews, perhaps this holds for Australia as well.. But unless there are 6digit volume...

GM-Volt GM-Volt -> Holden GM-Volt -> Opel Yes, it's quite likely we get our rebadged Volt (Opel) as well, but it won't be cheap, that's for sure.. Mitsu iMiev is aimed at $30k at the U.S. market, which translates with higher prices/taxes into EUR30k, and this is completely crazy price for kei (mini)...

EV run to Canberra.. from Perth?

Dave, it depends on your aussie legislation (emissions, lights, etc.), it might be easier to import/legalize RHD version from UK (rare) than LHD from continental Europe (super rare) or USA (rare). Sadly, usually these kind of low volume production programs have limited type approval, so it's hard to...

Just thinking small.. :@ ) Guys, the definitive validation of EVs maturing will come only by the day when an EV be it bike, quad, single buggy/car, or truck wins at least one stage at the DAKAR RALLYE (ex Paris Dakar), which is now in full swing in South America. This is the biggest event in the mot...

Goombi, that was just my silly way of showing gratitude for other participant's discussion in this torque related topic. I don't own or work on VW-EV related project (but my friends in our local club do have OEM electric Golfs), at this stage I'm playing with a smaller Danfoss VFD to validate the AC...

Hi Tuarn, thanks for the update, impressive regen for diy project. I'm wondering does this sw setup relate to that "hybrid charge mode" of yours as well, i.e. charging by VLT using brake resistor as overvoltage protection etc? It seems to me though this particular setup is just "driving mode only" r...

Didn't Mal (4x4) mention on his blog that Danfoss can perform pcb replacement/upgrade of HVAC VFDs (say from 6052 to 50xx)? Not sure about pricing and braking options though. Btw. with the global economy going south, there should be more Danfosses/o. brands comming on ebay soon..

I agree with Tuarn's general approach that one has to limit the exposure of tapping into the full ~600VDC batt. pack as much as possible. Tesla is also running for many reasons it's aircondition units (both batt. pack and passanger area) from the low voltage ~1/13 part of their entire pack. A sectio...

Yes slow charging is the rule of the day at the moment, and one of biggest "PR" problems with EVs, people are not used to alter their lavish (fossil energy abundance induced) lifestyles over appliances such as an automobile. The cyclelife of most of the available batt. chemistry is quite temp picky ...

Integrating the speed column wrt time to give distance shows 4.8km so this looks correct. Integrating battery kVA (kW) shows about 0.97kWh nett. Looks about right, given this was very stop/start and playing around. Distance traveled: 4.8km | Battery (netto/battery to wheel): 0.97kWh | => economy: ~...

Unfortunately with the lack of RWD cars it's getting to the point of convert FWD or die. Sadly very true, the choice among RWD donors is limited to baby Benz, late 1980s MB190E, one of the best cars ever made, massively and successfully overengineered on every level, but now ~20yrs old.
