Re: PIP-4048MS and PIP-5048MS inverters

For whatever reason, the way to talk to it isn't documented, and those few that have figured it out don't seem to want to share how it's done. I went searching and found one person who figured out how to communicate with Voltronic Power inverters on their USB port, from Linux, who did share how it'...

Re: Cell compression?

I can't help wondering if the authors are confusing megapascals with kilopascals. The strange numbers they are using, like 1.32, suggest they were working in non-SI units. Edit: But I can't find any units that would give round numbers for pressure. Nor can I find any that would give round numbers fo...

Re: Cell compression?

I don't think anyone is in danger of overcompressing their cells. That's an insane amount of pressure. It's 14 atmospheres! For the cells in Mexy, whose broad face is approx 0.12 m x 0.18 m, it's equivalent to a weight of 3 tonnes!

Re: Weber and Coulomb's MX-5

Many thanks to Mike Van Emmerik (Coulomb) for his help on Friday. With only 14 of the 16 worst cells replaced, we did a range test and found that it had gone up from 65 km to 78 km (to turtle mode in both cases). Then we examined the data logged by the CMUs and found that the cells that had gone to ...

Re: Weber and Coulomb's MX-5

Still trying to get my head around what is actually causing the loss of capacity. The house battery packs I've tested recently still have over 100% of the advertised capacity, one 200Ah pack is over 7 yrs continuous service and the other over 5 yrs continuous service. The 5 yr old pack has spent qu...

Re: PIP-4048MS and PIP-5048MS inverters

Iv mailed with mppsolar and i am going to order the new PIP-MK SERIES 5048MK. In case you were planning to rely on any of the features of our patched firmware, such as the ability to remotely disconnect and reconnect the loads, I note that this patched firmware is not available for the PIP-5048MK. ...

Re: Weber and Coulomb's MX-5

Many thanks to Jeff Owen for his help yesterday, in using the engine crane to remove, modify and replace 3 more battery boxes. This leaves only 2 of the worst 16 cells not replaced. As they were only the 11th worst and 16th worst cells, and each is the only one in its respective battery box, I will ...

Re: PIP-4048MS and PIP-5048MS inverters

Is there any conformal coating on the PIPs PCBs? I am concerned about condensation if the temp is to low. Yes, there is conformal coating on the PIP PCBs. Can I start and stop the Pip inverting 230v remotely? And still charge the batteries? If I can, i will hook up a small heater and preheat the ma...

Re: PIP-4048MS and PIP-5048MS inverters

I tried the new menu and it's very good. I noticed that there is 3 options now in the menu 4 "Power Saving" : Sds / SEn and "nor" : after the update my inverter was on nor and i changed it back to Sds(was the setting prior update). What is "nor" used for ? I didn't see it in the Manual or in the Au...

Re: Weber and Coulomb's MX-5

Here are the 16 new cells installed, with shims, in the battery box Coulomb calls "the neck breakers" (it mounts through the parcel shelf, on the back of the rollbar). The drilling out of the cell high-current links, and the CMUs, from 6 mm holes to 8 mm holes was done with a step drill . This produ...

Good morning, i just did the update with the 73d Firmware. Hi Rick54. Thank you for testing the beta version. Everything is working well with the inverter but it seems that the remote display is still displaying the old menu (i.e. : no 38 option or old names ...) but the inverter (in my cave...) is...

Hi Chris. That's true about the surprise factor being a hazard. But of course it shouldn't matter if you drop a tool. There is no excuse for using uninsulated tools on batteries. Even if you're unwilling to spend the money on a proper insulated socket and handle (click the image for an eBay search o...

Re: Weber and Coulomb's MX-5

Since the last post in this thread four months ago, Mexy has mostly been working fine. There has been the occasional difficulty in getting started, that seems to occur when the auxiliary battery is low. We really should have staggered the turn-on of the eleven EV200 contactors. We have since designe...

Re: PIP-4048MS and PIP-5048MS inverters

Can units in parallel be shut down say one of a pair. Yes indeed. :) As it says in the manual : "The zero in these commands can be changed to any digit from 0 to 8, being the number of the machine to which the command is addressed". The MNCHGC<m>497 command is equivalent to turning off the switch a...

My inverters read the AC voltages 3 volts higher than actual as its all of them (6) has anybody checked to see if they have the same and can this be changed to be accurate? For 5048MS PF1 not 64v model do you have any patch? Is there any way to pass beyond the 58.4 v bulk/absorb voltage? I see in the manual the cut-off voltage of 60v. Is there any risk if I charge the battery with an external charger, at let say 59.5 v? Hi Dinu. We don't know. Any time spent at a high...
