Re: PIP-4048MS inverter

Hi I tried to disconnect the SCC from the mainboard and connect only the batteries but the inverter does not start. I am desperate. is there any other way to remove the error 03 thank you very much My mistake. I think there is a thin white cable with a 2-pin plug, from the SCC to the main board, th...

Re: PIP-4048MS inverter

... I note that the MS E series, being "economy" models, aren't parallelable. So they should not have the major charge bug, which is in a function associated with parallel operation. In fact, I believe that the source file name with the main charge bug is "parallel.c". Despite asking Coulomb to exp...

Re: PIP-4048MS inverter

Hi Kimo-23. I don't recommend updating the software at this stage. I suggest disconnecting the SCC completely from the main board, and then seeing if the SP5000 will work as an inverter and AC charger without giving the error 03. My thinking is based on the fact that the main board requests the batt...

Re: Brighsun 220Ah cells

Aluminium links are a bad idea. But if you must use them, you not only need to use jointing paste, you also need to know they have not been anodized (a deliberately thick, and very hard but invisible, non-conducting oxide layer), and you need to file or sand them to remove the thin natural oxide lay...

Re: PIP-4048MS inverter

Is there a possibility for custom firmware for the 3024MSE?. Sorry Reecho, but no. At least not from Coulomb and I. As you can imagine, it is very time-consuming work. Keeping up with PIP-4048MS firmware, and hopefully soon PIP-5048MS firmware, when new version come out, is as much as we can handle...

Hi Kimo-23. When you say you replaced the "charger board", do you mean the solar charge controller (SCC) board? Or the main board that contains the AC charger (and inverter)?

Re: PIP-4048MS inverter

Thanks Coulomb. As you probably guessed, I somehow missed the "DOD". Robert, if you're looking for a low voltage cutoff setting for the PIP, for LFP cells, we use 3.17 V per cell in Brisbane, and 3.13 V per cell in locations further inland where the overnight temperature goes below zero in winter. A...

Re: PIP-4048MS inverter

Hi Robert. For LFP cells (which CALBs are), Coulomb and I use a float voltage of 3.36 V per cell. The ideal absorb voltage depends on the maximum charge current and the internal resistance of the cell. I use 3.38 V + max_charge_current * internal_resistance. But internal resistance varies enormously...

Re: PIP-4048MS inverter

There is no error message -> only thing I realized is that I see no secondary CPU version in PowerWatch (?!?) Isn't that exactly the PV controller? Yes, it is. Can it just die, while all the others are still working?!? Yes, it can. The PV controller or SCC (Solar Charge Controller) is a separate ci...

Re: 54v super cap detail

We can see "3.0 Wh" written on the capacitors. Therefore the pictured module can store 20 x 3 = 60 Wh. So to store 7 kWh you'd need 7000 / 60 = 117 modules.

Re: PIP-4048MS inverter

We finally got around to promoting patched firmware 73.00c from beta to release. The only thing that changed is the first letter of the version number (the release-status letter) from B to L.

We simply edited the original beta post, which can be found here or via the index post.

Alas, we (Weber and I) didn't foresee the need for a cell with 78 mm terminal spacing and M8 bolts.
I beg to differ. The snap-off-with-flying-leads option allows for any terminal spacing, only with less convenience.

[Edit: I didn't see Coulomb's post above until I had completed this post.] Can you make PCBs in shapes other than rectangular? Could you make a cell-top monitor in a broad U-shape to fit around the vent? Sure. We could even make them with a hole in the middle for the vent. But there's a significant ...

I think zinc plated washers will be OK if you use jointing compound to exclude air and moisture from between the dissimilar metals. You have to do that between the copper and aluminium anyway.

I am thinking of re-cycling the original fuse, by drilling small holes through the end caps, and threading a piece of 20amp fuse wire, and then resoldering he holes closed. (the kind you buy at bunnings for older homes with fuse boxes). The High voltage fuse in the IMIEV has sand inside that contai...

A picture can be worth a thousand words. Coulomb kindly pointed me to an early schematic showing an early arrangement of the AC relays in the PIP4048-MS. [Edit: The later arrangement, still prior to 73.00, has only 3 relays. It seems the inverter relay is omitted.] Below is my best guess at the pres...

Looks like vapourware to me. Did you find any product specs that would allow one to calculate watt-hours per litre? I didn't. But at least they are not making ridiculous claims about watt-hours per kilogram (less than a tenth of that of lithium-ion batteries). And when they write: “In the long term,...

I agree 100% with everything you wrote above, except this: It is NOT good enough to say "but look how it performs at the terminals". That doesn't answer the question of validating the "super capacitor" label in the name. I'd like to understand why you say that, because AFAIK it is obvious to everyon...

I'm sorry Terry, but your description of the behaviour of currents and voltages seems to bear little resemblance to reality. These panels are sourced from the same suppliers as we use. They have also gone to using blocking diodes. Did they say why? You haven't said what make and model of solar charge controller (SCC) you're using, or whether it has some means of preventing backflow from the battery into the panels at nig...

I think you'll find that Arvio have not imported the 7100 Wh module at all. I think they were fairly clear that there are 1200 of tho...
