Re: PIP-4048MS inverter

That's a nicely done drawing, Coulomb. There's more than one weird thing about that circuit. It looks like it was designed by an amateur. I count 12 parts that are completely unnecessary since they can either be omitted or replaced by a PCB track, sometimes requiring a change in the value or connect...

Re: Weber and Coulomb's MX-5

Not really sure Chris. I suspect it might be a bit too high speed and low torque. But mine is current limited to 30 A at 12 V (360 W) so maybe.

Sorry to hear about your inverter. Thanks for 73.00. Now we have a lot of work ahead of us, porting our patches to it. :geek: :ugeek:

Patched Firmware 75.31a for dual and triple SCC models This patched firmware fixes the premature-float bug in the manufacturer's firmware for the PIP-4048MSD, PIP-4048MST, Axpert MKS 5K-48 Duo, Axpert MKS 5K-48 Tri and equivalent. It does not contain the patches for our dynamic current control (DCC...

Re: PIP-4048MS inverter

Hi Terry. Thanks for your confirmation regarding the problems of fake MC4s. But regarding the 2.5 mm² solar cable that is almost the same diameter as the 4 mm²: This is normal, even for quite reputable brands such as Radox, as you can see on page 2 of http://elteccable.be/uploads/RADOX-Solar-Cable.p...

Re: Weber and Coulomb's MX-5

Thanks for the kind words and the info, Ian.

I didn't consider replacing them all while the box was out. Maybe that was silly of me. But there hadn't been any new occurrences for about a year, and it's fairly tedious work, and they're easy enough to live with, and the dog ate my homework.

Re: PIP-4048MS inverter

Any suggestion on where to get real connectors? Sounds like my cable my be under specked when it comes to insulation thickness so real ones may not help. I suggest including the terms "genuine Multi-Contact MC4" in your search. You can see here that they are the same connector for 4 mm² and 6 mm², ...

There is no chance. We do not have access to the firmware for the 5048MS. But even if we did, we would not increase th...

Re: Driving an EV in slow moving traffic?

Hi HuffnPuff. Driving an EV at a crawl is not a problem at all, with or without creep. I'm not even sure I understand why you think it might be difficult. Regarding creep, I have it set for just enough positive torque when stationary with zero pedal, to take the backlash out of the drivetrain so it ...

PIP-4048GE Analysis Hi Ray, Thanks for the kind words. I haven't done a tear-down, or even seen one. But I have an analysis of the PIP-4048GE based on the eBay ads and the manual . 1. Re: PIP-4048MS inverter

Going from 25 °C to 10 °C is a drop of 15 degrees. So the open circuit voltage will go up by 15 * 0.32% = 4.8%. So it will be 104.8/100 * 37.2 = 39.0 V. So 3 in series will be under 120 V (and will remain so down to 2 °C). But four of them would be 156 V. I note that there is no voltage drop due to ...

Correction: Our Leaf is booked in next week (Wed 20-Dec-2017) for Nissan to look at the capacity-loss issue. Nissan switched from LMO (lithium manganese oxide) to the much better NMC (lithium nickel manganese cobalt oxide) from the 2015 model onward. It's not so much that NMC is "less affected by te...

Re: 2nd Hand LEAF

That's really unfortunate @weber :( It's not really a problem if Nissan replace the battery for free. Newer Leafs use a different battery chemistry with a longer life. [Edit: See my post on this below] How many km to a charge do you get nowadays? About 100 km on a 100% charge. Seems like there's no...

My wife's Nissan Leaf has just recently lost its fourth bar from its capacity meter. It was made in April 2012 and bought new in July 2013. It is booked in for Nissan to look at this week. We expect they will replace the battery under warranty, as we know of another Brisbanite who has had this done....
