Re: Imiev bms

Still hang onto the boards, someone may one day crack it. Indeed. It looks like the boards come out pretty easily (with the battery cover off, of course). Just 5 screws and one connector. The screws make the connection to the four cells, and connect to the CMU board via their own connectors. Though...

Re: PIP-4048MS inverter

It should be noted that I only deal with the repair of inverters and they got to me already in a faulty state. Good to hear that there are other repairers out there. There is such a throw away mentality these days, perhaps more so in the West. I already repaired a month ago the MPPT charger part of...

Re: Elcon 3kW cuts out after 1 hour

Just to be certain we are talking about the same unit, my charger is the Elcon 3.3kW UHF charger (solid Al box with a fan on it). Ah. I assumed a 3 kW older model, which is really two 1500 W charger units in one box. That ".3" is really important! I'm only familiar with the older models. It seems t...

Re: PIP-4048MS inverter

Hi guys! Welcome, Alex. There was an 100A circuit breaker (C100 for 220V AC) between batteries and inverters (1 circuit breaker for 2 inverters) and it tripped. 100 A is quite light for two inverters in parallel. It also sounds like they were only AC rated; you need DC rated fuses or breakers there...

Re: Elcon 3kW cuts out after 1 hour

My 3kw Elcon charger has continued to work since I replaced a blown capacitor in it. Interesting. What capacitor was it? Perhaps use these traced schematic diagrams to nominate a part (e.g. C38). It works well now (20amps) and does all the right things except that it cuts out after exactly 1 hour. ...

Re: Aux battery charging problems

... Then the controller shows the pv voltage to be around 2 volts and the current being zero. That sounds like the problem right there. If the controller merely stopped charging, then the panel voltage should be the 17-21 V you see with no load. Either the controller has gone crazy, or the panel or...

Re: Aux battery charging problems

I am having a bit of trouble charging my lithium auxiliary battery the way I think it should be charging. Is it 4 LiFePO₄ cells? Or some other lithium chemistry? I used to have a Steca charge controller but it seemed to charge the battery for about 10 to 20 minutes then stop charging even if the ba...

Re: jonescg's home battery storage system

The standard advice in the early days of LiFePO₄ was that all cells had to be upright all the time. The reasoning was to do with stratification of the electrolyte. But there is almost no free electrolyte in the cells, and now it seems that the advice is that any orientation other than vent down is f...

Re: PIP-4048MS inverter

If I read the above correctly in your setup the grid neutral will be connected to the inverters' output neutral when the load is powered by the inverters ? And this will stay true for both bypass mode and battery/solar mode. Yes, that's right. The company that performed the installation warned that...

I have a 4048MS with Error 51 and exactly same behavior. Last time I read the firmware related to error 51 (fault code 51) in this post , I seemed to think it was associated with a 192 A limit. Upon reviewing the code now, I can't see where I got this idea. It occurs after reading either of two cur...

It's project day at Weber's house, and he's finding lower range than usual (80 km compared with 130 km when new). One of the cells has been playing up, and was replaced a few weeks ago. He replaced it with one that seemed to have the lowest internal resistance of his spares. But that one seems to ha...

So how do you power the house @coulomb ? I assume you have a PIP-4048 inverter. Yes. One PIP-4048MS. or similar with a built-in changeover relay which flicks over to mains when the battery voltage drops ... It's quite sophisticated. There are many settings to control the behaviour. I slide the shel...

did you have a succesfully repair of a charger by change the capacitors I've only worked on Elcon/TC chargers in the main. Could you not put each 220 Ah cell in parallel with the existing cells? That's another option I'm considering. I could pick the best of my existing 160 Ah cells (presently buddy paired), put a spacer under each 160 Ah cell so that the terminals are the same height, and parallel with the new 220 Ah ...

Anyway, the wooden shelves made it easier to terminate with a torque setting on the drill, and then I could lower the battery trays onto the shelves. You'll need to get DC rated fuses where needed; look for High Rupture Capacity (HRC) ceramic fuses. The only exception would be fuses that are obviously protecting the mains input cable. For the electrolytic capacitors, as well as a 105°C rating, you'll want to pick models with long life, at least 3...
