Re: Prelude conversion project - some questions

Isn't this a comment error?

pinMode(2, OUTPUT); // declare pin 5 as an output (AC compressor)

Later comments talk about pin 2.

Yes, I'm a pedant. :geek:

LCD error code 08 The user manual says that this fault code is "bus voltage too high". Yes, the service manual says to update the firmware, but I don't think this will fix it. I suspect that they don't expect this error to come up, but if it ever does come up consistently, perhaps they can fix it w...

Ditto, to both the thread and the interest.

I wonder if the repairable writeoff / original owner doesn't want the hassle combination is a viable, low cost but moderate effort path to a used EV? Quite probably, there aren't enough EVs in Australia to make that combination likely.

On a system with 5 PIP4048 in parallel, for the last week it doesn't change from grid to solar. This circuit, present on only some models (before the fuse protection "feature") merely disconnects the battery negative strap from the rest of the inverter if the processor doesn't cause the opto-coupler (OP2) to be lit, which will turn on the four paralleled MOSFETs (only 1 shown). The circuit mak...

Thanks, any idea where to get a relay with contacts rated for 60VDC?
The usual electronics stores: Jaycar, RS Components, element14, mouser, etc.
Would a SSR be ok to use?
I'd guess so, but higher current models might have too much leakage (i.e. they might not turn off "hard enough").

Re: PIP-4048MS inverter

"Coulomb's partial schematic trace of the main power supply circuit" is available from the index. The AC start switch carries battery voltage, so you need to be careful with fault currents. A ~1 A 60+VDC fuse would be wise, on the pin 1 side. The switching current is quite low, however. Hence, many ...

@Supercaps, the discharge test shows the voltage plummeting at the end, and the charge test shows the voltage springing up at the start.

These are both textbook demonstrations of a battery cell. How can you maintain that they are capacitors?

Thats the factory installed firmware.
Ah. So the early absorb termination could well be the long standing factory firmware bug, described here.

Re: PIP-4048MS inverter

I don't know exactly why, but there's an exception to this case, when in bypass mode and charging with AC. In this state, the battery charging current doesn't include self consumption (or maybe more logically the self consumption is much less than the average 50W in solar charging mode with inverte...
