Re: Low Cost BMS for Home Storage Batteries

Have you got any spares in those 400 boards? I just collected my AVASS batteries and am now thinking about what to do with them.

Re: seeking advise - EV batteries oriented towards performance

I think I have 30C cells on my ebike, I'm having to replace them at under 10,000km, which seems OK for a pushbike, but probably not a car. Probably be acceptable for a race car though.

Survey Monkey don't conduct surveys, it's a platform for people to create online surveys, so if the information was slanted I would look to the people conducting the survey, not survey monkey, and I'm sure it is not the same people as this Chris (Pilcher), although I know nothing about him (1 post)....

Re: Newbie question about practicalities of charging and range

Batteries could be a problem. Very hard to know how much though, as we won't find out how well they last until they have been around for longer. The early Leafs and i-MiEVs have only been around for 8 years, but have had considerable problems. The promise is that the batteries in newer cars will las...

Re: Newbie question about practicalities of charging and range

At least the stranded outside mobile range thing is easily fixed now. You can buy a satellite communicator like a garmin inreach for substantially less than a roo bar. I'm not sure if EVs are going to be better or worse than ICE for long term serviceability - possibly the biggest obstacle is the ele...

Re: replacing the ECU and the battery pack in Miev 2010

Not charging seems likely to be a failure of the charger, not the ECU. It appears to be a quite common fault, and commonly mis-diagnosed by mitsubishi. I was only able to stop them replacing the ECU on mine because I was lent a known good one for them to try and confirm that was not the issue. Have ...

Re: First Zoe Service!

I suspect you are overthinking it, just plug in the charger for the main battery and that will charge the 12v as well. Unless you are going to leave it unused a long time in hot conditions I don't think you need to avoid fully charging. The draining to 2 bars occasionally is just to help the range g...

Re: First Zoe Service!

Re 12v battery, you could just not replace it until it actually dies There are all sorts of theories on the i-miev forums about tired, due for replacement batteries contributing to the charger failures. Not sure I accept it, but keeping a fresh 12v battery is not too expensive and might not be a ba...

Re: Tesla for sale 30k jeg in gumtree

Sounds bizarre to me, lots of vehicles can get written off for basically cosmetic (but expensive) damage, especially as they get older.
Also means the roadworthiness of cars is defined by there insurance cover - eg if it is not insured, it can't get written off, therefore it can be repaired?

I think stat write off in NSW means you can never register it again. A bit pricey for a paddock basher.

Re: Some pictures of the Energica Ego race bike, fairings off.

Shouldn't it look more charred?

I guess if the rationale for the 12V secondary system is to allow things like hazard lights and door locks to function when the drive battery is isolated, then it makes sense not to apply to bikes that don't have any of that stuff anyway.

Re: Prelude conversion project - some questions

I am just thinking of the viability of manufacturers to offer electric drive as an option to standard cars. That would make the development cost very small. Are you saying you think the conversions manufacturers offer like the i-Miev, minicab miev, eNV-200, e-golf, e up, e focus, fiat 500e, should ...

Total Cost of Ownership

Since I recently sold our i-MiEV, I have the opportunity to work out exactly what it cost to own. The way I worked it out the biggest single item was rego. Total cost 36c/km which doesn't seem to bad. Three times what my e-bike costs. I once had a Suzuki Swift that cost 10c per km, but that was a lo...

they can propel a 100Kg mass to 25Kmph that takes way more than 250watts They may well be more than 250w, but 250w is quite adequate to get to 25kph on a bicycle ( I have a cycle analyst that shows the power draw) and I suspect will do on a scooter too. The claimed performance is possibly optimisti...

Re: Highway travelling at slower speeds

In WA it is illegal to travel that slowly (more than 20kph below the limit) on a Freeway. Is the Hume designated a freeway? I'd be inclined to take the side roads anyway, 40kph slower than the general traffic flow seems quite likely to increase the chance of incidents or accidents. Still a speed dif...
