Re: Charging cable has died!!!

I managed to get the extra socket off with judicious use of an angle grinder. Hopefully the original plug is good enough quality to last a while. Only problem so far is the electrician installed an outdoor downward angled 15a socket in our garage, so the plug tends to fall out under it's own weight ...

17:1 glide ratio too, so when the battery runs low you can probably keep going on solar power during the day (thermals).

Re: Pipistrel electric aeroplane - in Perth!

Nice, probably very practical for bog laps of Jandakot which seems to be what most light aircraft do. Is it any quieter than ICE aircraft? The prop noise must be the same. I assume it is actually a rescue parachute (recover the whole aircraft) not a drogue chute (usually for slowing down on the runw...

Re: Driving an EV in slow moving traffic?

i-mievs creep with no throttle, but I don't think it is that important. They are very nice to drive in traffic compared to ICE, range is very good in slow traffic too.

Re: 2012 Imiev 70K kms, battery u/s.

Did you read philipowen's thread http://forums.aeva.asn.au/viewtopic.php?f=49&t=5243 Sounds like very similar issues to yours but probably not much help as Phil decided he'd rather pay for a new battery himself than wait for Mitsubishi to decide what to do about it. He also had the MCU failure and a...

I find the i-miev guessometer pretty good, except the one time I really pushed it, and it stopped saying it still had 7km range left (<1 km from home).

Is it the tubeless bicycle tyre stuff you are planning to use? That would seem to be a similar application. Not sure why you wouldn't just use a tube though, I assume you are not wanting to run really low pressures, which seems to be the main attraction of tubeless on bicycles.

Re: Fonzarelli X1 - 13 kW motor!

The 60kph limit is for mopeds. Scooters can be any power or speed, but are licensed the same as motorbikes. Aprillia make an 850cc one.
I beliive the current Fonzarelli 125 is over the speed limit and requires a license already.

Re: Fonzarelli X1 - 13 kW motor!

That sounds a bit more like 125cc power than their current bike. Probably good for freeway commuting in the morning grid lock but still a bit short when there is no traffic.

Re: I-MiEV Main battery cell failure

I think it was showing no bars (one bar flashing) and the charger icon (if you look carefully it is not a fuel bowser) was flashing. I had just done a really long slow downhill run trying to maximise the range so it would have been showing more km per bar than usual. I suspect if driving normally it...

Re: I-MiEV Main battery cell failure

Not particularly unhappy with ours because it went about 90km before doing that, which was about expected. Know not to trust the range meter now though. I always knew it wasn't precise, but I expected it to be more accurate as it ran out.

They weren't really any good for long trips in the first place, so you are not missing much if the range is a little reduced, unless your particular needs happen to be close to the range limit.

Re: I-MiEV Main battery cell failure

Yes, became very slow for a few km, then failed to proceed at all. The actual turtle light never came on. I had done a very long slow downhill run trying to stretch the range, so the RR was indicating more than it normally would for that state of charge. Still disappointing that it can still show se...

That still probably fits the "struggle to keep going for 100km" category. The only time I've run mine flat, it stopped with 7km RR still showing.

Re: How to value my iMiev for sale?

Yeah, I only paid 15 for mine, but that was in the brief period when the initial lease on the 2010s ran out and there were quite a few on the market at once. I wouldn't be at all surprised if I could get more for it now. It would certainly be hard to replace for $15,000 if written off. I suspect the...

Re: How to value my iMiev for sale?

Redbook says $10,200 to $11,800, sounds about right to me, I figure on cars halving in value every 5 years, which would make ours $10k (bought for 15k 3 years ago, same description as yours). On the other hand, if anyone really wants an electric car under $20k, there is not much available so you mig...

Is the anti islanding, backup function when the grid goes down built in, or something that had to be installed specifically? Couldn't find much detail of that in their webpage previously.

Roughly how much did it cost installed?

No decent off road options available yet. 4. Progressing fast enough that waiting for next years model (better a...

Re: Dreamers Questions. Hillclimb 4wd Racer

I got about 400 cycles (5000km) out of the first set of lipo model aircraft batteries on my e-bike. Mostly at around 1C. Second set are still going OK at 7000km/500 cycles. Not a huge lifespan, but they are very small and light and cheap, so good for that application. I don't think I'd want to be re...

Mine was done on Thursday at Melville Mitsubishi, first i-MiEV they have done. They actually called in the morning to say it was harder than they thought and they would need it overnight, but ended up putting an extra mechanic on it and getting it done the same day.
