Re: Prelude conversion project - some questions
I just tried my adaptor on a recently installed Schneider EVSE at the local Nissan dealer. It worked without the need to use the switch. A single diode and equivalent resistor is all that is required. Assuming the EVSE at Melville Renault is the same, you should be able to connect using the AVC2.

Re: Prelude conversion project - some questions
Which is why I think it works best with Type-1 and not with Type-2. Perhaps a delay of some kind is needed for Type-2? Early Type 1 EVSEs generally don't need the switching capability. Later Type 1 and all of the Type 2s that I have tried do require the switching and I suspect this is just a functi...

Re: Brendon_m Moke
Brendon I originally was going to convert my mini to electric and found a number of attempts to retain the gearbox in mini conversions. These included using a chain or belts to bypass the drop gears, through to one that retained the crankshaft which was chain driven from the motor. I think there are...

Re: Interesting issue affecting private imports
Very interesting. I assume your Minicab is a U67 which looks like it came from JustBuses as its the only one I've seen with mag wheels. That said, there 'should' not be any difference with my later U68. Not my Minicab. Yes it is a U67 but I have been told it did not come from JustBuses but may have...

Re: Interesting issue affecting private imports
I haven't experienced any issue with charging the Minicab from a Tesla charging station using the Gelco Tesla to 3 pin adaptor, apart of course from the time it takes. The problem I had was with the Gelco Tesla to J1772 and Type 2 to J1772 cables (both not requiring use of a 'regular' EVSE). I stil...

Re: Interesting issue affecting private imports
That switch on the vehicle side - is it a microswitch built into the Type-2 car charge port? A local iMiEV had the components installed inside the J1772 charge port, and the switch mounted in a recess in the panel lining the inside of the car above the rear wheel. It is left permanently on and only...

Re: Interesting issue affecting private imports
If you can use public J1772 stations such as the ones at Brisbane BMW, Carindale and Chermside, then the pins aren't missing. They are much finer and more recessed than the other three. From your description, I suspect your car has a diode and equivalent resistor without switching. To test this, go ...

Re: Making a conversion J1772 / IEC 62196 capable
You can fool some of the EVSEs with an equivalent resistor, but you need both resistors and a switch to fool the rest of them. They are also required for conversions to use Tesla EVSEs.

One product i did see there was a Mennekes type 2 to 3 Pin AC, 15 amp plug adaptor, maybe that might be the way, plug destination charger into that adaptor, then use the imiev standard charging cable.. We tried one of these adaptors today on the two Tesla destination chargers at the Hyperdome s...

Yeah I'm with Johny - AC or nothing. Really. From the AEVA National Secretary. Could you elaborate on why having no EV is better than a DC powered one. I am sure there are plenty of EV owners who would disagree with this, as their DC cars provide reliable, practical, useful and effective daily tran...

2010 Imiev charging question
It could be that you need to add a switch to the signal circuit in your car. I found that my simple adaptor worked at ChargePoint EVSEs but not at King George Square car park in Brisbane. Some EVSEs require the 1.3k resistor to be switched in after plugging in. Adding the switch fixed the problem. F...

In the above post, I omitted to mention a small incident that did put a bit of a dampener on my otherwise positive charging experience. As I returned to my car, a Commodore wagon was parked diagonally in two of the charging bays, one of them being the one my car was parked in. The occupants were jus...

With the growing charging network in Brisbane, I decided that it was time to make our car J1772 capable. On Thursday, I made an adaptor and headed off to Westfield Carindale to try it. The carpark was packed, yet I had 4 spaces to myself right next to the entrance to the shopping centre. I am sure t...

Westfield Chermside in Brisbane is now operational. From either north or south on Gympie Road, turn into Banfield Street and proceed straight ahead down the ramp into the carpark. DIY Conversions nearly dead ?
Poprock There is no "probably" about it. I could write pages on this but, in my opinion, 12V lead acid batteries just don't work in road going EVs. Your experience and those described by by evric are typical of conversions using small cheap 12V batteries. However, properly use flooded golf...

My batteries are 18mths old and are declining rapidly in distance.10k is now tops. http://forums.aeva.asn.au/smileys/smiley1.gif Total distance travelled is a much better indication of battery effectiveness than time. Wearing out a battery in 18 months is fine as long as you have covered sufficient...
