Re: Interesting issue affecting private imports

If you can use public J1772 stations such as the ones at Brisbane BMW, Carindale and Chermside, then the pins aren't missing. They are much finer and more recessed than the other three. From your description, I suspect your car has a diode and equivalent resistor without switching. To test this, go ...

You can get away with a 882 ohm resistor and a 1N4148 diode if you wan to fool chargers.
You can fool some of the EVSEs with an equivalent resistor, but you need both resistors and a switch to fool the rest of them. They are also required for conversions to use Tesla EVSEs.

What areas of SE Queensland are you travelling in?
There is an extensive network of Chargepoint, Tesla and other charge location available, with many of then accessible at any time.

2010 Imiev charging question

One product i did see there was a Mennekes type 2 to 3 Pin AC, 15 amp plug adaptor,   maybe that might be the way,   plug destination charger into that adaptor, then use the imiev standard charging cable.. We tried one of these adaptors today on the two Tesla destination chargers at the Hyperdome s...

Recomended Reading

Yeah I'm with Johny - AC or nothing. Really. From the AEVA National Secretary. Could you elaborate on why having no EV is better than a DC powered one. I am sure there are plenty of EV owners who would disagree with this, as their DC cars provide reliable, practical, useful and effective daily tran...

2010 Imiev charging question

It could be that you need to add a switch to the signal circuit in your car. I found that my simple adaptor worked at ChargePoint EVSEs but not at King George Square car park in Brisbane. Some EVSEs require the 1.3k resistor to be switched in after plugging in. Adding the switch fixed the problem. F...

Westfield new installations

In the above post, I omitted to mention a small incident that did put a bit of a dampener on my otherwise positive charging experience. As I returned to my car, a Commodore wagon was parked diagonally in two of the charging bays, one of them being the one my car was parked in. The occupants were jus...

Westfield new installations

With the growing charging network in Brisbane, I decided that it was time to make our car J1772 capable. On Thursday, I made an adaptor and headed off to Westfield Carindale to try it. The carpark was packed, yet I had 4 spaces to myself right next to the entrance to the shopping centre. I am sure t...

Westfield Chermside in Brisbane is now operational. From either north or south on Gympie Road, turn into Banfield Street and proceed straight ahead down the ramp into the carpark. Once under the building, turn right into the pink carpark, then right again. The charging bays are along the wall on the...

DIY Conversions nearly dead ?

Poprock There is no "probably" about it. I could write pages on this but, in my opinion, 12V lead acid batteries just don't work in road going EVs. Your experience and those described by by evric are typical of conversions using small cheap 12V batteries. However, properly use flooded golf cart batt...

DIY Conversions nearly dead ?

My batteries are 18mths old and are declining rapidly in distance.10k is now tops. http://forums.aeva.asn.au/smileys/smiley1.gif Total distance travelled is a much better indication of battery effectiveness than time. Wearing out a battery in 18 months is fine as long as you have covered sufficient...

Westfield new installations

I tried my Chargepoint card at Carindale tonight and was rewarded with a very satisfying "clunk" as the hand piece was unlocked and the display indicated that it was ready to use. The area is still taped off and I suspect this is for the markings on the ground to dry. With these four bays at Westfie...

DIY Conversions nearly dead ?

I find that I have a lead acid devouring pet dinosaur which is demanding a lot of time and effort just to keep on the road. As the saying goes, " lead is dead ", so a cash outlay on Lithium is required to make any conversion worthwhile.    http://forums.aeva.asn.au/smileys/smiley1.gif Poprock Could...

Hence his inelegant suggestion of an added button on the steering wheel "Inelegant suggestion", we are talking about an EV conversion that has 222 cells, each with a custom monitoring/balancing module that continues to scream in agony after it is removed from it's cell, hundreds of very high voltag...

The weight is quoted as 850 kg
The original weight of the Enfield is 975 kg with lead acid batteries.
