Re: ZS EV battery warranty
aircon regass....not sure if the high voltage issue means Tesla only. Doesn't need Tesla specifically, anyone with an aircon ticket can do it. However the equipment does need to be either cleaned or dedicated for EVs/hybrids because EVs/hybrids use a special nonconductive aircon oil and if you cont...

Re: ZS EV battery warranty
70% sounds about right......Nissan and Tesla seem to recognise that from what I’ve read. Australian dealerships sell ICE vehicles by preference for the guaranteed servicing income stream. New car margins for popular vehicles are extremely tight in Australia as opposed to Britain frinstance. Manufact...

Re: The illegibility mania
(This is as close to social media as I get outside of YouTube comments.) Tesla is potentially making a rod for it’s own back, if the interior surveillance camera confuses your difficulty in finding the trendy pale grey icon for falling asleep or gross distraction. Just how difficult is common sense ...

The illegibility mania
What’s with this recent obsession with making the screen increasingly illegible with this ever shrinking and fading pale grey theme ? How much worse can it get when you have to pull over in order to find the rear vents activation icon because the road isn’t smooth, straight and devoid of traffic. Th...

Re: Battery balancing is a thing
Our ZS EV is due in a couple of days (hopefully!) but it will probably be the end of the month... :( Ohme or Zappi wall charger is another question ? If it is a 15A portable charger that comes with the car I'll probably purchase a portable 10A charger as when we visit family and stay overnight some...

Re: Battery balancing is a thing
Thanks guys for this info, most appreciated. Our ZSEV is due late this month apparently and am just wanting to nail down the important bits of info. It’s popular to say RTFM ....trouble is they send me to sleep better than a draft and I find personal experience much more interesting. Ohme or Zappi w...

Battery balancing is a thing
Apparently it’s good practice to regularly charge the battery to 100%, and leave on charge for some time, in order to get all cells up to balance at around 450V......preferably AC charging at home using the wall charger you bought..... It seems that if one stack of cells drops voltage (imaging a col...

Re: Is it good practice to balance the battery ?
Tesla's balance all the time so it shouldn't need a battery balance at any point (not including the MiC ones with LFP). A full discharge /recharge may be needed once in a while to recalibrate/reset the coulomb counting but I have not specifically heard of anyone actually having to do such a thing I...

Is it good practice to balance the battery ?
Does a late series Tesla need a battery balance occasionally ?
Is the need indicated in some way ?
If so, how is this best achieved ?

Re: OTA Update v10.2
Experienced this twice in NSW before new year. 1st was between Cooma and Tumt where i also saw messages about lost reception. Of course much of that stetch, with many tight blind mountain corners doesn't suit using TACC/Autopilot because the car tends to be too timid for following drivers (and ofte...

Re: OTA Update v10.2
.....any yet another invented 60 zone made it’s appearance today on a regular route .
How does this happen ?
Actually it happened a couple of days ago also....both in an 80 zone....and before that a 40 in an 80 zone.....no temporary speed signs to trigger it.

Thanks Dave, I suspect I’ll be fitting a Zappi or Ohme before long in that case.

I’m wanting to know if a programmable smart plug is suitable for granny charging.
Can they handle up to 3kw and is there a proven brand recommended ?

Re: MG ZS EV
Has anyone had experience with using Tesla chargers AC or DC ? I have tried a few and quite frankly I found them a royal PITA. It isn't simply a matter of plugging in, regardless of the plugs looking similar to a common or garden variety type 2 one. A special adaptor with two switches is needed, th...

Re: MG ZS EV
MG ZS EV service costs in Australia are apparently $160 per year and $800 every fourth year. What on earth do they do at the four year service? Change a timing belt? I suspect it’s in order to get existing franchises to add MG to their stable and to dabble in the low revenue world of minima...

Re: Tesla odometer accuracy
No Philip Mine isn’t inaccurate, but in fact spot on......or a minuscule under reading tendency 42 psi (3 bar) and insignificant tyre wear with bog standard wheel/tyres. There is certainly no 2% error. The speedo over reads eg 91 is actually 90 by TomTom gps but the standard 107 km trip measured by ...

Tesla odometer accuracy
My January 2020 build Australian delivery Model 3 SR+ , after 28,000 kms of regular and fully analysed runs, is, if anything, UNder reporting distance vis-a-vis Google maps/onboard calculation and TomTom onboard calculation.
Bjorn says otherwise......a 2% error over reporting.

Re: OTA Update v10.2
Well today on the southern outskirts of Shepparton we invented an identified 40km zone, for the very first time, within an 80 zone.
Naturally we got full regen braking but nobody was particularly close and I rest the foot on the accelerator anyway........just in case.

Re: OTA Update v10.2
48.30 means constant distraction trying to get the tyre pressure/trip cards to display instead of spinning the car image around like a catherine wheel.......and even less legibility - PRND - energy flow etc. Why is it that every bug fix equals the invention of another bug needing to be fixed ...with...

Q1 at Traralgon and Q4 Bairnsdale means Gypsy Point to fill the Narooma gap.
The Newell Highway is a pretty glaring omission if you consider the Melbourne - Gold Coast/Brisbane/Sunshine Coast traffic numbers.
Mildura is ignored.

Re: Charging a second (non-Tesla) car
Excellent - thanks Jon. Is that something that the Musky one could do remotely as an update/change in policy...or purely manual onsite method ? Supposedly he has indicated a relaxation in supercharger access for non Tesla drivers, and I was wondering if the destination chargers could be flipped remo...

Re: OTA Update v10.2
Good gen Philip. I’m just hanging out for the rewrite and hoping it brings consistency. Mapping speed errors in central Victoria still. I have reacquainted myself with the TomTom GO620 for the speed camera and alternative route directions in event of a major issue way ahead of the standard Tesla map...
