Re: PIP-4048MS and PIP-5048MS inverters
I bow my head, coulomb. Immensely helpful info! The problem is that the potential of all the metal cases could be different to the potential of a human or other animal with their legs on the ground (real earth). As I understand, the only cause of that would be static electricity somehow accumulated ...

Re: PIP-4048MS and PIP-5048MS inverters
I have not reviewed the AS/NZ standards in a long time but I am relatively familiar with SANS and NEC and I'm fairly sure that your installation is not according to code and poses a danger. As a first step you should probably ensure that your earthing is referenced to your home earth which should b...

Re: PIP-4048MS and PIP-5048MS inverters
I beg pardon if this has been discussed before: voltage between earth and neutral/line AC output . I have an off-grid/floating system. No earth cables actually go deep into the ground. I simply wire all metal cases across the property together and call it "earth". The inverters (two in parallel) hav...

Re: Separate solar charger and inverter/charger on the same battery
Thank you coulomb! Much appreciated. one minor hassle with your proposed system is that you will have two sets of battery settings to set up. If you change one, say for summer temperatures, you'll have to change the others. I'm assuming that you'll need some utility charging. With the integrated inv...

Separate solar charger and inverter/charger on the same battery
I have been running this solar inverter/charger clone (two of them in parallel actually, each on its own PV array) for almost 2 years in my off-grid system. One feature that is particularly important to me is to be able to use excessive PV power (when available) for AC loads while still keeping the ...

Battery voltage accuracy and reactivity of solar chargers
I have been running a clone (non-genuine) inverter-charger in my off-grid solar system and monitoring parameters in real time (specifically put a dedicated screen on the wall for this purpose). The battery is lead-carbon with pretty good spec — 4000 cycles at DOD 50%. What I found very concerning is...

Re: PIP-4048MS and PIP-5048MS inverters
I suppose it's possible that the inverter is sending back unexpected responses that is causing the crash, but that seems unlikely. That was probably the case as the inverter had other cables plugged in (parallel comms, USB). So I unplugged all those, rebooted the inverter and tried again. Progress!...

Re: PIP-4048MS and PIP-5048MS inverters
It's also entirely possible that you can't update anything at all. You may have early versions of the clones that later came with patched firmware 72.70c (lead acid flavour), but could not update firmware because they don't have a bootstrap loader. The flash tool crashes when I try to push new firm...

Small wind turbines
I am looking to erect a few wind turbines to supplement my off-grid solar system as we are getting somewhat enough wind here in Southland, New Zealand and very little sun in winter (there is enough sun when the sky is clear but it is often blocked by very dark overcast). This should save lots of mon...

Re: PIP-4048MS and PIP-5048MS inverters
you could try 72.70c or really you may as well go to 73.00e. Thank you! Will give it a shot soon and report back if it fixes the AC input problem when in parallel. The other "bug" with MPPT charging that I mentioned turned out to be my omission: I split the PV input in parallel between the two (par...

Re: PIP-4048MS and PIP-5048MS inverters
Hello everybody! After a whole day of googling how to geek with my inverters I am pretty much excited to find this forum! So, I happened to have bought a couple of clones with parallel kits installed (no branding at all, though sold as "Hybrid Inverter"): https://i.imgur.com/oaxGnjv.jpg They do have...
