Re: MG ZS EV
You can also change the charge rate on the unit itself via the touch sensor and into the menus. That sensor is an option now on all kits. I have a touch button but I couldn't get it to work. The command to enable it was not recognised. I suspect the front button function has been completely removed.
Re: MG ZS EV
The power companies only permit certain things to be connected to the controlled load circuit and they have to be hard wired. I believe an EVSE, if hard wired, is acceptable. If they allowed a 32A socket, then you could plug anything into it. The EVSE does need to be on it's own separate circuit fro...
Re: MG ZS EV
7kw EVSE's are available from OpenEVSE for under $500. Be aware however that they aren't 'portable' in the same context as a 10 amp or 15 amp plug-in EVSE as they need around 30 amps at 240v, and there wouldn't be a regular GPO in the country that will allow as much draw. Very rarely one might find...

Re: R-Link - What Does It Do - If Anything?
Hi Dave, Mine is one of the "new" 2019 models sold off recently by Renault. It has a v1010 map which dates from May 2018. And yes, as per my throwaway line at the end of my last post, I could instead use Android Auto and fire up Waze or Google Maps. My gripe really is that, on the Renault web site: ...

That would seem to be the case.
Yes, I guess there'd be some cutbacks.

Re: R-Link - What Does It Do - If Anything?
Hi Dave, Thanks for the information. I had the idea that updates to the maps would be provided free for a period - perhaps for the duration of the Tom Tom Live subscription - so that at least I'd have the latest maps with my new vehicle. So, I emailed the R-Link help desk (in the UK) for clarificati...

Re: R-Link - What Does It Do - If Anything?
Time passes and on 23/12, the Zoe popped up with activation notices saying I now have one year of Tom Tom Live and R-Link. Given I bought the car in October, that's taken a while to filter through! Anyway, I still can't get updates to the Tom Tom maps. It shows version Australia v1010 v8933 that app...

Re: Battery Self Discharge Rate
Certainly, the car needs to avoid discharging the traction battery completely. But the 12V battery looks like about 50Ah = 600W so a full traction battery could fully charge it 70 times. Interestingly, I just Googled looking for the 12V battery capacity and stumbled upon this on the Renault site: ht...

Re: Battery Self Discharge Rate
So I assume then that the 12V battery is only charged from the traction battery when the vehicle is actually running? Given how critical the 12V battery seems to be to both operation and charging of the vehicle, and given that there must already be a (12V) battery DC-DC charger in the vehicle, it wo...

Battery Self Discharge Rate
I'll be leaving the Zoe (2019 model) unattended for periods of possibly 2-3 months.
- Does anyone have estimates for the discharge rate of the battery when the car is sitting idle?
- Should I leave the charger connected?

Re: R-Link - What Does It Do - If Anything?
@doggy, what year is your Zoe? Mine is a (new) 2019 model. Is it possible some minor things may have changed? Mine gives all the appearance of being connected, and says so in the status menu. I'm not sure how to tell if any remote updates have happened. Also, what subscription are you referring to? ...

I have the Board Preferences set to Melbourne and time to UTC+11 which gives me correct local time when I'm logged in. However, when I log out, the time reverts to WA time - 3 hours behind.

R-Link - What Does It Do - If Anything?
As the new owner of a Zoe, I'm interested in remotely monitoring the vehicle, if possible. I've installed R-Link on a PC and registered an account on the R-Link Aus store : https://au.rlinkstore.com/authentication. I've registered the Zoe on the store via it's VIN, although it's unclear what's an Oh...

Re: OpenEVSE Charging Station any Users?
I'm awaiting arrival of an OpenEVSE kit and thinking about 3-phase and charging from available PV. We have a 3-phase house, 3-phase solar and 3-phase car (Zoe) so the question arises, should I build a 3-phase version of the OpenEVSE? One thing I have read is that the J1772 interface only allows a mi...

Re: J1772 EV charger that restricts charge to excess production from solar
I've ended up writing a small Python program that runs on the Synology NAS. It grabs the power info from the Fronius inverter API using an HTTP GET, decodes the JSON and posts the data to MQTT for the OpenEVSE to pick up. All I need now is the OpenEVSE - the kit is winging (more like rolling) it's w...

Re: J1772 EV charger that restricts charge to excess production from solar
I've got a Zoe on the way and Solar on the house so I've ordered an OpenEVSE kit. I'm still learning about it, but one way to control the charging is to send it periodic MQTT messages specifying the amount of excess solar. It then automatically adjusts the charge rate (6A minimum) to suit. All I nee...

Re: J1772 EV charger that restricts charge to excess production from solar
What about a Zappi? It can be configured to only use solar and work alongside a battery. Whether that would work off-grid, you'd have to ask.
I was also going to suggest OpenEVSE, which already does this in conjunction with OpenEnergyMonitor, but I see you're well on top of that already.

I know very little about the Minicab or imiev, but is the 12V accessories battery OK? If it's dead, then the car's systems won't have power to start things going.

Re: Feedback/Conversation on Preferred Smart Charger
We've had a Zappi for over a year. Works great. We have a 3-phase house and solar, but the car only has a single phase charger. The Zappi handles that fine and, on PV Output, the Power Used line follows the Power Generated line very closely. It can be set to charge from solar only (Eco+), from solar...

Yes, I am a member and I saw that advert.
Thing is, it says "Reg to Dec 2018" and the same ad has appeared in the previous 2 editions of the mag. So, seems a bit stale.
I've sent him a message anyway.

Any i-MiEV's for sale?
I'm looking for an i-MiEV with reasonable mileage on it and in good physical and mechanical condition.
Willing to consider one with the dreaded "Dead Charger" problem, or other electrical gremlins.
Anything out there?
Regards,
Dave

Re: VicRoads Club Reg
You don't have to be a CAMS (now called Motorsport Australia) affiliated club to be approved for the Club Permit Scheme. However, you do need to go through quite a few hoops and a lot of paperwork with Vic Roads https://www.vicroads.vic.gov.au/registration/limited-use-permits/club-permit-scheme/appl...
