Output derating of PIP1148MAX
Hi, Slightly bored, I was reading the MAX manual recently. I found this: Built-in anti-dusk kit Could be handy to extend the solar output when the sun is going down. :D Now to the point of the post. Some further reading, I found that the MAX derates once the battery voltage drops below 55V. Here's t...

Cost of running a PIP1148MAX
Hi, I have a PIP1148MAX. Last night was it's first time running the house. This morning I noticed an increase of import from the grid, when there should have been almost zero (PIP5048MG does draw a bit: https://forums.aeva.asn.au/viewtopic.php?p=82594#p82594). Here's a screenshot of imports (1/2 hou...

Hi, Why do have to change 2024? Premium Feed in Tariff ends in 2024. Might be better off using those panels for charging our batteries. Are you using the changed firmware from here for LFP or the standard? Still have the original FW. I charge to 55.2V & Float at 53.4V. I have another solar charg...

Hi, I use Albright DC contactors as I have them in my junk box they are made to switch high current DC motor loads Seeing as they are "junk", how much for one? For a timer you can get a delay relay from ebay I have a couple of controllers, I think they have delays, have to check them...

Re: PIP-5048GE/GK/MG/MGX/MAX inverters (with unsafe SCC)
Hi, If you're thinking of automating the lower current switch in series with the pre-charge resistor/bulbs, then this doesn't work. You need to be able to control the main battery disconnect, which means a 250 A 60 V contactor. You could leave the pre-charge resistor/bulb with fuse across that, I su...

Re: PIP-5048GE/GK/MG/MGX/MAX inverters (with unsafe SCC)
HI, Success! Precharge is required for this 11KW MAX inverter. Yes, it's great. Got me thinking ( ): What happens when we're away and the BMS disconnects? OK if both banks are online, and only one is disconnected. The inverter is still running. If both BMSes disconnect, for whatever reason, ...

Re: pip 5048 along with 48v lfp and jk bms -how to set up
Hi "Br", Hi, Thank you for your reply and the settings. Yes the system is connected to grid (or did i misunderstand what you mean by mains)? I was just afraid that the bms would cut off and by this harm the inverter and on top the inverter without battery would be off service as well. So e...

Re: PIP-5048GE/GK/MG/MGX/MAX inverters (with unsafe SCC)
Hi, Success! Precharge is required for this 11KW MAX inverter. I made a 2 hole globe holder, wired up 2 x 24V in series with a 15A fuse & 15A rocker switch. BMS Discharge ON, switched precharge ON. Globes glowed very brightly, then faded. Turned isolator ON, no Short Circuit fault. Turned OFF th...

Hi, Hi, I am using your hardware on pip 5048 along with lead acid batteries that works great.however, my bat is dieing and I need need to upgrade to new lfp hardware, jk bms and lfp cells. My problem actually is:how do I set up the jk bms that it doesn't cut off without the inverter knowing its time...

Re: PIP-5048GE/GK/MG/MGX/MAX inverters (with unsafe SCC)
Hi, Dual lamps often have off set pins on the side eg brake lamps Also, dual lamps often have very different power filaments (e.g. 21 W and 5 W), so if you use both filaments in series, one gets most of the voltage and the other barely glows. The one with the most voltage (the lower power half) will...

Re: PIP-5048GE/GK/MG/MGX/MAX inverters (with unsafe SCC)
Hi, The lamps in vehicles use "small bayonet lamp holder" so two 24v lamps and two lamp holders would do the job with the lamps in series you get 48v That's what I found on the 'net, except using one twin filament (filaments in series). I looked at Autobarn, and they have a pack of 2 x 24V...

Re: PIP-5048GE/GK/MG/MGX/MAX inverters (with unsafe SCC)
Hi, I don't understand why the switch would be in parallel with the resistance, that seems to be bypassing them, so it's no different than connecting the battery direct to the inverter. Connecting the battery direct to the inverter is what you want, but only after the capacitor bank has charged. So ...

Re: PIP-5048GE/GK/MG/MGX/MAX inverters (with unsafe SCC)
Hi, One problem with a pre-charge resistor is that you have to parallel it with a switch that can take the entire battery current reliably. If that switch ever failed, the pre-charge resistor sees roughly the whole battery voltage continuously, and will fail dramatically. In my system, I have an EV2...

Re: PIP-5048GE/GK/MG/MGX/MAX inverters (with unsafe SCC)
Hi, Cheap resistors can be found in your car "light bulbs" (as long as its not one with LEDs) a brake light would make a good pre charge you know when it is ready the light goes out. Thanks for that. Sadly, after a look around the garage, I found I don't have any. One 21CP 12V globe. There...

Hi, saw an error message: "Discharge short circuit protection". ... What could be up with this inverter? You didn't mention anything about pre-charge. An 11 kW inverter with its large capacitor bank will look like a short circuit to the battery BMS. Some BMSs will go into current limit and...

Hi, New inverter (PIP1148MAX) arrived this week, wired up 1/2 of an old lead to the 240V input so I could use it to charge & balance the new battery bank. Plugged in, turned on. After connecting via WiFi, and checking the settings, I turned it off and unplugged. Next, I wired the battery leads t...

Re: Old PIP-3048LU won't run from battery
Hi, Anybody have any ideas? Battery is 52.1V. Wild guess: after all these years, the power supply electrolytic capacitors have dried up. It's possibly worth doing a recap to see if it comes good. The vibration/noise sounds bad though, even though it always did some of that. OK. Yeah, the vibration/n...

Old PIP-3048LU won't run from battery
HI, I have this inverter that I bought and installed in Nov. 2012. I replaced it with a PIP-5048MG in Nov. 2016. It was OK when I removed it. The only problem I had during the time it was in service was the LCD screen went blank for a week or more (came good by itself) after a lightning strike, but ...

Re: PIP-5048GE/GK/MG/MGX/MAX inverters (with unsafe SCC)
Hi, Note that shutting down only the MPPT will not help, as it's mainly the inverter's switching of the AC out neutral alternatively to BUS+ and BUS- that causes the current to flow through the leakage to earth. Does that mean that the "08 Error Buster" won't work? I actually bought the LD...

Nothing like this in the MG manual. The MAX and MG solar chargers are very similar; if you ...

Re: Lifepo4 and Lead Acid a working combination
Hi,
I ran AGMs with my NiFes for a short time. I had to use relays to switch them in/out as my NiFe bank max. voltage was too high for LA (IIRC).
What are the LA doing for your system?
I read somewhere else of this working.

Re: PIP-5048GE/GK/MG/MGX/MAX inverters (with unsafe SCC)
Hi, I am buying a PIP-1148MAX, as an upgrade from my PIP-5048MG (going well - just occasionally undersized). As well, I'm adding a second bank of LFP (ditto). I'm a reasonable amount in front with rebates, and not paying for power since 2012, so figured it was a good time to do this (also we're goin...

Hi, from what i can see (and i am NOT a EE) the problem is with the balancing nothing is perfect if there is a 0.1% difference in the voltage readings between units and you get a worst case situation and have stay 10 of those paralleled up, you could have anything up to a 1% difference and you will ...

Re: PIP 8048 MAX / leakage current from Mains
Hi, I don't have a 8048MAX, but my 5048MG draws current from the grid when in battery/solar mode. Appears to intermittent, but maybe it's fairly constant, and the meter isn't able to read below a certain value. It's only visible when the separate grid-tie solar isn't outputting. https://forums.aeva....

Re: PIP-5048GE/GK/MG/MGX inverters (with unsafe SCC)
Hi, It's just the way the inverter is designed. In SUB mode, I believe that AC-in, AC-out, and the DC-AC inverter output are all connected together. Any ideas why the inverter is taking a small amount from the grid at odd intervals? I had noticed it before, but it was only last year I realised it wa...
