Re: Nickel Iron Batteries real data

Hi, The warranty is 6 months. Are you in Australia? So I would suggest no-one in their right minds buy Iron Edison Batteries. Very expensive for the bank I needed, between $10,000 and $15,000! Did you contact IE? I thought they had a 10 year warranty. I would have thought they'd be keen to hear of t...

Re: Nickel Iron Batteries real data

Hi, Be warned anyone thinking of purchasing Iron Edison batteries that the cases will split and fail in less than 5 years! Absolute waste of money. I purchased a small 10 amp unit to experiment with and use for some leds in the house. Nearly $300 and the cell cases literally fell apart! Warranty? Di...

Re: Nickel Iron Batteries real data

Hi, Have you weighed any of your cells? I weighed 4 of mine a couple of weeks ago, and found that two which have not been touched are about 13kg. One has 1/2" of crap in the bottom, the other has none. The other two, from six I flushed and renewed, only weigh about 12.5kg. The specs are 14kg for a 2...

Re: PIP5048MG: 3Phase Configuration: Fault 08 and anomalies.

Hi, Hi @dRdoS7 Not sure if I want workaround to work, I'd rather have a fix. But I'll try that on my MG, but set it at 2A, and I'll use 10A if 2A doesn't work. It will charge the battery up to "back to battery" point, then discharge again, 10A is pretty much what our load is overnight. Trouble is, i...

Re: PIP5048MG: 3Phase Configuration: Fault 08 and anomalies.

Hi, Hi @coulomb @dRdoS7 My work around the problem was based on some of @coulomb suggestion, bearing in mind this error only occurred at dark time - not during the day with all the loads running; 3. On the 'faulty inverter", Change program #11 to 10A (Max utility charge), Change program #16 to CSO (...

Re: PIP5048MG: 3Phase Configuration: Fault 08 and anomalies.

Hi, Ah. I wonder if you have a pesky load that you use rarely. One that has a half-wave rectifier in it for cheap and nasty low power operation, such as a hair dryer, heat gun, etc. Some of these also do cycle skipping, which can upset the control systems. One of these systems controls output voltag...

Hi, I have a PIP5048MG, FW: 71.20, and it too has had Error #8. It hasn't happened for the last 6 months. I should not written that! The last time was August 2019. I had error #8 this morning (six times, then no more). It only occurs when in Line Mode and no solar. I sent an email to MPP supp...

Re: PIP5048MG: 3Phase Configuration: Fault 08 and anomalies.

Hi, Query 1: Last night at approximately 20:10 the P3 inverter (5048MG) went into fault #08 (Bus Voltage Too High) and of course... Can anyone tell me what this #08 fault is in English and whether I should worry about it? The "bus" is a pair of wires with roughly 400 V between them... So the inverte...

Re: Nickel Iron Batteries real data

Hi, I have had some success with builders bog sealing my cell its only very slightly damp and no less electrolyte than other cells. Now for the naked cell PVC seems to be resistant to KOH so a length of pipe big enough for it to fit in with end caps just need a good glue. So, I need to go to a where...

Re: PIP-5048GE, PIP-5048GK and PIP-5048MG inverters (with unsafe SCC)

Hi, Hi @dRdoS7, Yes, NiFe is an unusual case, due to the huge hysteresis between charge and discharge. LiFePO4, was, possibly, a better option. I though they may not last as long as NiFe. Who knew? I see recommended absorb and float voltages of 1.65 V and 1.45 V per cell, so yes, I think 38 c...

Re: PIP-5048GE, PIP-5048GK and PIP-5048MG inverters (with unsafe SCC)

Hi, And some models only come with the 64 V "feature" now, such as the PIP-MG (Axpert MKS II). So some have asked whether they should add a cell or two to their otherwise nominally-48 V battery, making its nominal voltage more like 52 V. I don't think that is a good idea, because it puts more strain...

Re: Nickel Iron Batteries real data

Hi, We had NiFe brand (I think owned by Saft later) NiCd cells at work. They were due for replacement, and I was hoping to get them, but I retired before it happened. They were still going strong after about 30 years in the basement. Spent most of their life in Float, probably tested more often than...

Re: Off-grid solar diagram / ideas

reviving an old thread here, but what blocking diodes do you guys use? If I could find a reasonably priced mppt that could take in 400v and put out 144v, I probably wouldn't be bothering with blocking diodes :( I have 4s4p, facing various directions: 3s tilted (E, N, & W), 1s flush (N). Some string...

Re: Nimh in parrallel

The cells and wiring are rated to 60A continuous. I don't think a fuse would have helped. Voltage monitoring (stay below 145v, as the runaway condition would have been triggered by an excursion above 150v) or temp monitoring may have done the trick. The former I'll implement. I have heaps more cell...

LiOH does work better than KOH apparently. I've only read of using that in addition to, never as a replacement. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nickel%E2%80%93iron_battery Do you have a link? Hi, I noticed yesterday, and again today, that my 5048MG was pushing the battery > 64V. It's not problem for me, as I have NiFe batteries, and the higher the better! Absorb is set to 64V. EQ is disabled. Today it did it for about 1/2 hr, yesterday only a few minutes. I have a 2nd SCC (a Classic 200)...

Hi, There are a number of manufactures of the systems so searching around may find them at a reasonable price considering how long they should last it will not cost much in the long run. The BWSs I've looked at have push-in fittings, or small screw-in, none are 35mm, at lest not so far (unless I mis...
