Re: PIP-5048GE, PIP-5048GK and PIP-5048MG inverters (with unsafe SCC)

I flashed 71.71 and everything went fine.
I will post my findings here if anything stands out.

If have sent @derBastler a pm 8-)

Re: PIP-5048GE, PIP-5048GK and PIP-5048MG inverters (with unsafe SCC)

I replied to this yesterday, but it doesn't seem to have come through. I saw in https://powerforum.co.za/topic/4288-axpert-inverter-switching-to-battery-power-at-midday/ that there is a firmware update for the Axpert MKS II. I've got the MPPSolar 5048MG (@71.40) so I guess can flash this Axpert MKS...

Beta Version of Patched Firmware 71.80d for PIP-5048MK/Axpert King 5K
We do not currently have an LFP flavour of this patched firmware. Let us know if you would like us to make one.
Thanks for this weber.
Do you mean with the remark above other LFP's not being Pylontech, like 16s ones?

Re: PIP-5048MK inverter

Another consideration for you re MS vs MK vs GK is that they all come with the premature-float bugs . We have patched MS and MK (soon to be released) but not the GK, to fix those bugs. In that case my best option will be the MK and then use your to be released patch! Just to be absolutely clear: I ...

Re: PIP-5048MK inverter

You say you wouldn't recommend the GK. In the same way you wouldn't recommend the MG? That's correct. I've got my MG wired with a spd on the panel side and a RCCB type B on the AC side and that seems fine. What do you think? I think many people would be very grateful, if you (or your electrician if...

Re: PIP-5048MK inverter

I would never recommend the GK as it has no insulation monitoring of its lethal PV array. If it wasn't for the fact that you're using Pylontech batteries, there would also be no contest between the (patched) MS and the MK, because the MK (and GK) firmware still seems to have some serious bugs (that...

Re: PIP-5048MK inverter

I am about to create a system for a friend with some pylontech batteries and was looking at the MK and GK forums. Considering what I read here, would you all advise me to get a MS with a patched firmware instead of a MK? Besides that: trying to max out the # panels, would the MK or MS take 6p4s pane...

Re: PIP-5048GE, PIP-5048GK and PIP-5048MG inverters (with unsafe SCC)

[ Edit: Even 56.8 V is a bit much for LFP; I use 55.2 V on my own 16S LFP battery. You'll miss out on a tiny bit of capacity, but hopefully will extend the life of the battery by not charging to such a high voltage every day. ] I would say an hour [ edit: for the absorb time ] would be a reasonable...

Thanks coulomb for your detailed answer 8-) Please complain to your reseller, and to Voltronic Power! @Weber and I grow weary of patching version after version of firmware, when the fix is so simple. I absolutely did!!! I sent a complaint to maximum_solar through ebay. The premature float bug arises...

Re: PIP-5048GE, PIP-5048GK and PIP-5048MG inverters (with unsafe SCC)

Update of my own OFF-grid project: I have been running my 5048MG now for half a year batteryless, charging our Renault Zoe electric car fine. 'Granny' cable with either 10A or 13A is working great: when the power is not there (clouds or so), the PIP lowers the Voltage, and the car even kept on charg...

I put a 10A DC fuse on each string (+ side). As coulomb said the inverter will take max 18A from the PV. Oversizing is not a problem...

Re: PIP-5048GE, PIP-5048GK and PIP-5048MG inverters (with unsafe SCC)

How do you mean, with no power applied? PV power? If there is no PV power, the MG is off, because there is no battery connected. It surprised me too. It seems to be via a normally closed contact, so yes when the power is completely off, I'd expect neutral and earth to be connected internally. The m...

Re: PIP-5048GE, PIP-5048GK and PIP-5048MG inverters (with unsafe SCC)

Setting 38 ("Allow neutral and grounding of AC output [to be] connected together") merely changes how the tiny relay on the communications board is controlled. You have to provide an external power supply and relay to do the actual neutral to earth connection. I can't see how that would cause rattl...

Re: Zoe off grid charging

I would really like to be able to run the 400 volts DC from my solar panels directly to the 350-400 volt DC battery in in my Leaf through the CHADEMO DC charge socket. That would be very cool if that became possible. No idea how Chademo works and if you could build a smart EVSE using the DC from th...

Re: PIP-5048GE, PIP-5048GK and PIP-5048MG inverters (with unsafe SCC)

Also, we don't have any 450 V MPPT firmware to patch, apart from the VM (Value Mppt) models. So far, I haven't found how the main processor talks to the Solar Charge Controller at all. So for some time, quite possibly forever, there won't be patches for the MG. I get it. :D Can I somehow extract th...

www.youtube.com/watch?v=n9KCl8SAh5Y I have wanted one of those for about 10 years ( but they do not exist I have been told). I ended up with a hybrid system instead. Zoe off grid charging

Hi all, I just wanted to share here that my dream came true yesterday. We are now charging the Zoe off grid! I found an inverter (MPP Solar PIP-5048MG) which does not need the grid or batteries, so I have a direct PV ->EV system. I am using the granny atm in 10A mode. Today I'll try 14A. Future will...
