Cheers g4qber for the photo/map and race times. While we had a fairly weak turn out of vehicles we did sort out the track layout we will use and get some meaningful data on expected laptimes etc. Going off the map in the previous post the track layout will be (a) clockwise and (b) NOT use the hairpi...

G'day again. For those of you interested we have some news, and for those of you who have already liked our facebook page (www.facebook.com/PerthElectricVehicleChallenge) the news is already there. This year we will be holding not one but two events. Our new track is the result of a partnership with...

Cost may have been a factor for private entry teams whose drivers were older than high school age, and who had to pay $25 each for a one day CAMS license. However entry costs were halved this year for all teams (from $75 last year to $35 this year) which should have encouraged school teams to attend...

G'day all, As the current chairman of the eV Challenge I would like to respond to the criticism laid out in Richo's post if I may. Firstly, as James has pointed out, the ITC Global eV Challenge is an educational event which uses electrically powered vehicles to teach engineering to a primarily high ...

G'day all. The eV Challenge committee has just established a facebook page for the event at https://www.facebook.com/PerthElectricVehicleChallenge for all to join if you wish. We've started by posting photos and we will very soon be uploading the heavily revised 2013 rules along with video, race dat...

I just noted that the ev challenge website - www.evchallenge.org.au - has posted that River Raiders did NOT win overall this year - SKM did. I think they might have got caught out by the dual race format and awarded the win to the wrong team!
Unlucky Rod, well done SKM...

My inclination, as previously mentioned, is towards electrathon vehicles rather than karts - but if karts are preferred, what about 'lay down' or enduro karts? These things have the drivers laying down to reduce drag and usually race on proper racing rather than karting circuits - meaning way faster...

I think we need people who would be willing to build and race the cars we'll be discussing to come, in addition to anyone else interested. It would be very difficult to come up with some great new category only for one or two people only to build cars. The way i see it (and I'm not perfect so this c...

Been a while since I've been on the forum and from the looks of it I've missed a very interesting conversation. I've been involved with the eV Challenge since the beginning and have also started a few threads on trying to get a faster, more organised ev racing event up and running. However with few ...

If you have a look at the ev challenge website (www.evchallenge.org.au) it has the timing sheets. In the first race which was SLA batteries only the top average speed was 33km/h. The second race had the top speed average stuffed up by a timing error - it says the fastest lap was an 18 second lap mak...

I've been looking for a long time recently and it is difficult to get a clear set of regs, as previous posts have also alluded to. Anyone got a set of LEP2 regs to have a look at or point me in the right direction to find them?

Yeah it was quite something. Our car was #46 which you see at about the 3 minute mark going past the blue car all the in car stuff is shot from. It was quick but we had a few issues on the day. A new concept though so we should have it refined for 2012.

My reading of the rules tells me it's a minimum 1.2m eyeline. The definition for the single seater says "...The basic vehicle design is for a narrow track, single person vehicle..." and that tells me that they are looking at a 3/4 wheeler. Why mention track at all for a bike? Saying that the 1.2m ey...

Wierd rules. Max $200 battery pack for single seaters, $400 for 2 seaters - kinda rules out LiPO and means you'll need to use SLA. Minimum top speed of 40km/h is fine, but a minimum 1.2m high eyeline? That means your eyeline will be higher than that of a car like a Caterham/Westfield or even a Lotus...

That's the one. Nice photo, haven't seen that on the net anywhere before either. We had a brake calibration issue in '10 that cost us but we think we've got it sorted now. It's the '09 open class winner, and we'll be developing it for this year. Keen on joining Rod, Wayne and myself anyone???
