15A portable EVSE - Gelco - Type1 plug. FS

I have a brand new, surplus-to-requirement Gelco 15A (~3.5kW) portable EVSE for sale - still in the bubble wrap. Item: Type1 J1772-plugged portable EVSE, takes input from either a TSLA HPWC Destination Charger, or 10/15A plug - through a Type2 "tail". Location: Southern NSW Item Condition: Brand new...

Re: charge pin not retracting

Incidentally, the Japanese i3 s, that have CHAdeMO in the normal rear side port, have a J1772 in the frunk. It doesn't have the little mechanical/solenoid plug holder - the spot at the top of the socket is just blank. I will ask the kiwis whether the plug is locked in, or can be removed like mine no...

Re: charge pin not retracting

well, maybe a bit of both - more mechanical. Charging it does not seem to have been affected, and I can now get into the mechanical latch in the granny charger plug, if needs be, with a blade screwdriver. It looks like the little, inbuilt mechanical latch (driven by the $300 solenoid?) that comes do...

Re: Around Australia Electric Highway

dunno, maybe wishful thinking. i3 can be upgraded in Germany, there has to be a way. let's wait until the 120 Ah version is released and then recap.

Re: charge pin not retracting

I just had it stick, again. This time in warm sunny conditions, at home, where my DREMEL was. five minutes later, the plug had a hole in it, and a screwdriver successfully levered the caught hook, up, with a sickening crunch/bang. I was worried that I might have buggered the new $938 solenoid thingy...

I can now use both CCS1 and CCS2, so that helps.
Oooh so you got the adaptor?
Yep, AFAIK, the only one... Safely coiled up inside my newly-acquired 19" spare wheel <wink>

Now you just need to convince BMW to swap your DCFC inlet over at a decent price Pete!
Yes, well, we all know how far that will get! More interested in a battery upgrade, now that I have a CCS2>1 adapter!

Re: Around Australia Electric Highway

There have been a number of posts about showgrounds and caravan parks. In my neck of the woods (southern NSW) I have not yet found a showground that doesn't have a few 32A 3 ph sockets, and some have 20A 3 ph. They all work, although of course it is polite to seek permission, and to offer to pay (I ...

Re: NRMA funding 40 DCFCs around NSW

NRMA Wallsend (Newcastle) is now operational. Jindabyne apparently ready to be. Cooma (Massie St) delayed until later 2018 due to cabling challenges.
Snowy Monaro Council is in discussions with NRMA about adding recharging infrastructure to Bombala, Nimmitabel and Adaminaby.

Re: NRMA funding 40 DCFCs around NSW

Anybody have any further info on the install timeline? I know that Jindabyne has gone in, Newcastle is rumoured but no-one has reported seeing it yet, and Cooma is in the pipeline (this year? in Massie St, behind the visitors centre. Bega is apparently on the list. Can't find out definitive info re ...

Re: charge pin not retracting

I also had this, after granny charging overnight, and it was very cold. I pulled the blue cord in desperation. Big mistake. It should only be pulled 20mm - mine was much further. Locking solenoid apparently buggered, according to BMW Canberra. Only $938 later, it's all back. DON'T PULL THE CORD - lo...

Re: South East Electric Highway (NSW/Vic coast)

Went to Bombala yesterday. Used the 5 pin 32A socket at the Showgrounds. It went fine. They didn't know how to accept payment, when I offered at the Council offices. They think that both Cooma and Jindabyne look like getting NRMA DCRC. I put Bombala on PlugShare. It looks like a cafe owner at Bembok...

I3 battery recovery process (60Ah Bev)

I have had some success using tips from the UK BMW i3 group. The i3 is designed to be charged to 100%, not 80%, as for leaf and TSLA. My range was stuck between about 100-115 km. I fully charged to 100%, and then locked the vehicle, and left it in “deep sleep”. It is designed to quietly and very slo...

Re: i3 BEV Gen 1: hill climbing energy investment?

There was a bit of headwind. If I didn't slow down, I wasn't going to make it. The i3 makes it very easy to match range left against distance remaining. I arrived with a couple of km up my sleeve...

Chris, any updates? The price for Zoe Intens must be at least $51k, from my investigations. Hope it works out for the sandgropers.

Re: i3 BEV Gen 1: hill climbing energy investment?

So, it all went very well. I was surprised and delighted. I fully recharged at Bemboka on 15A, then set off in EcoPro+. Ian, the i3, climbed the mountain steadily at about 50km/h, with consumption swinging between 40-60 kWh/100km. Got to the top lookout easily. Arrived in Nimmitabel for a coffee, af...

i3 BEV Gen 1: hill climbing energy investment?

Hi all, I have a 2015 22 kWh i3, named Ian. It has 17.6 kWh usable, about 110 km, or 120ish in EP+. I need to drive 45 km, from Bemboka to Nimmitabel. I have to climb Brown Mtn, which is 10km of intense climb up 2,000’, and then make it the remaining 25km to Nimmitabel. I am concerned that I will ge...

Re: South East Electric Highway (NSW/Vic coast)

To clarify to some folks, The Zoe (and Kangoo ZE, I think) can use 22kW charging, through a standard Type2 plug. As you say CHAdeMO is fine on 3phase, if you have an adapter (Tesla) or socket (iMiev, LEAF). Many other vehicles have only up to 7kW on-board charging, ie one phase at 32A, hence the ori...
