Re: PIP inverter repairs and hardware modifications

Thanks Coulomb Somehow I missed reading that page about testing the gate drive circuit, interesting, at that frequency I can see why the caps are not really big. I'm learning there is a lot going on between frequency, capacitance, inductance and easy for it to go wrong. I agree it would be better an...

Re: PIP inverter repairs and hardware modifications

Ok I have found another board and tested Q27 Q28 Q29 Q30 resistance GE: 22ohm GC: 532k CE: 590k Diode EC: .348v CE: OL This lot was the old IRGP4750D All of these tested good, so I'm happy with that. :D Now for something else I have been thinking about, It would be nice to limit the current availabl...

Re: PIP inverter repairs and hardware modifications

Hi Dirk Just tried testing a few of these for you. Checked in place are Q51 Q52 Diode values same in the manual (for this test) BE 11.95K BC 780k CE OL Ok some values will be different than the manual and it was different between 2 inverter boards as well. I think what matters is that Q54 Q56 Q51 Q5...

Re: PIP inverter repairs and hardware modifications

Hi Dirk It was a PIP-4048 Some details on page. 96 Battery side Power Mosfet's 8 of them busted, the other 8 were ok and not replaced. R54 R57 burnt open. D69 open. Bus Side components IGBT's 2 of them shorted, but no visual sine of damage and 2 zener diodes open circuit, on the gate drive, I don't ...

Re: PIP inverter repairs and hardware modifications

Hi Luke, Nice work getting it running again. :) I Have repaired an 09 fault and many of those associated parts, very time consuming finding the faulty parts, Also check DC/DC driver Diodes, ZD24 ZD25 ZD29 ZD26 ZD31 ZD28 ZD30 ZD28, found 2 of them open circuit. 17 months since I repaired it, give it ...

Re: PIP inverter repairs and hardware modifications

Some time ago We had a 5048Hs inverter and a 4048HS running well on the same 300ah battery bank, the 5048 was running the normal house load and the other would run the water pumps and the air conditioner occasionally. On a day when the 4048 was sitting completely idle and the other was running the h...

Re: PIP-4048MS inverter

I don't think changing the minimum solar voltage (if possible) would make any difference to the situation. I still think there may be a setting's conflict that tells the the relay drivers to stay on. (expecting soler power to still be available) That is the situation I had, I also had an fault code ...

Re: PIP-4048MS inverter

Had a similar experience. I have used the PCM60X charge controllers for years now, as I use it along side the 5048HS And have had no problems with them on (custom settings) with the lithium battery bank. Just a few times where I disconnected the solar panels late in the afternoon just before a storm...

Re: PIP inverter repairs and hardware modifications

HI Coulomb I had an idea there would be many different factors involved on different applications, anyway I'm still learning these things. The other night I had a look at the IGBT gate drive on the PIP4048 main board using a microscope and found either a crack or short across the resistor (R139) tha...

Re: PIP-4048MS inverter

Yes around the active and neutral leads together, there may be other ways to do it but that was quick and simple for me at the time, I think its to do with spikes from PWM controlled devices. (affects other types of inverters as well) Anyway I have to say thanks Coulomb, Weber and others for the inf...

Re: PIP-4048MS inverter

Hi All Today we fired up the new PIP-5048, working good the fans run all the time unlike the earlier version's And they have finally put the fans in the other way round, now they draw the cool air in through the bottom and the heat comes out the top, As it should. The IGBT's on the High Voltage side...

Re: PIP-4048MS inverter

Well overheating would be a possibility if you were charging on a really hot day? I have measured 60c air temp coming of the fans last summer. However i think there may be something els going on. It looks as if it just shuts off without regulating properly We use a PIP4048HS and PCM60X MPPT charge c...
