Re: New Zoe! Way to get the 15A ZE Ready Portable EVSE?

Ditto on that. Just a Zoe thing. The Chameleon charger that only Renault use, and only in the Zoe, is a funny beast that uses the motor controller and motor as the charger rather than a separate AC to DC rectifier. Result is high power AC charging (up to 43kW in some models) - but is quite (read ve...

Re: Charging failed

Hi, Mine has been fixed for a while now and we are back to happy. I would not expect the remaining Zoes to be there for long. ... We REALLY like our Zoe and whereas we wish we had not had the bad experiences, we are hopeful that is all behind us. .... At some stage, Renault will have to get back in...

Re: Charging failed

Latest update: ...... So it's back to Crawfords on Monday morning. I am totally fed up. Dave Commiserations Doggy, I hope eventually they will fix it to your satisfaction. The reason I am reading your posts and the other Renault threads is because we are contemplating to replace my wife's Hyundai w...

Re: Aftermarket iMiEV battery upgrade project

Whot you mean about battery Molicel INR-21700-P42A? Maximum charge is 8.4A. With use 15pcs. We have max charge 126A. This is enought for DC-DC charging (max. 125A) https://www.imrbatteries.com/content/molicel_p42a.pdf In europe cost 1pcs 4.3€. One LEV50 = 65€. All pack 5720€. 5720€ = about AUD 9440...

Re: Aftermarket iMiEV battery upgrade project

As for DC fast charging, my guess is that a suitable current (likely 125 A) is requested, and if it only appears that ≈55% of that current is supplied, it just shrugs and assumes it's a lower power fast charger. When a cell voltage approaches too high a voltage (these are pretty similar for LMO and...

Re: Aftermarket iMiEV battery upgrade project

In hindsight, I should have urged Joe to set up Canion or similar last week, for extra peace of mind. To watch amps , low and high cell voltage or whatever one might be interested in , I use EvBatMon. Just select the Gauge of interest and place it where it suits, the numbers are nice and big and vi...

I have a screen shot of the oscilloscope if anyone would like to see it. I don't have anywhere to host it, or I'd post it here. It is easy (if it was not I could not do it ,lol) with imgur to post pictures, thanks to coulomb's how to thread. https://forums.aeva.asn.au/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=5824&p=70...

Re: Aftermarket iMiEV battery upgrade project

I corresponded with Weber about recent progress on the 94 Ah battery upgrade range restoration project. His correspondence is greatly appreciated; thanks, Weber! So I've redrawn the overlaid LMO and NMC graphs far more carefully, and this is the result: LEV50 vs NMC 2.png When Chris posted the grap...

Re: Aftermarket iMiEV battery upgrade project

I use a columb counter shunt that shows me the Voltage, AH, temperature, charge and discharge current of the secondary pack, it also controls the contacts manually and allows for setting Over voltage, Over current, Under voltage. Did you build that coulomb counter combo yourself or could you buy it...

Re: Aftermarket iMiEV battery upgrade project

There is another guy in brisbane, Daniel Rykiert, that has put a second 150AH pack in the back of his Minicab. Not sure if he is an AEVA member. I just lurk TBH. Anyway he has it spliced into the wires to DC wires to the motor controller. I added the main positive and negative of the add-on pack to...

Re: Aftermarket iMiEV battery upgrade project

Another update on the Minicab MiEV with the 94 Ah cells. This week I started with a baseline range test, getting the Range Remaining meter down to 1 km before the turtle...... Interesting report, thanks. Once the battery is down to turtle, how much energy can you charge back into the pack? Do the c...

Re: Aftermarket iMiEV battery upgrade project

Thanks Mike, I am not at all worried about freezing, yes I know it can be unpleasantly cold in Melbourne but the iMiEVs range is to short to head into the snow! The sensor appears to be close to the spot where the board is screwed to the tab on the cell. That is what I guessed it would be, and most ...

Re: Aftermarket iMiEV battery upgrade project

Encapsulation epoxy to create a path from the sensor to the cell top? The distances between the voltage sensors and the cells vary due to the cell layout. I don't see that as a problem (hope I'm right). But I fear that it is not possible to direct the cell temp to the correct sensor over a distance...

Re: Aftermarket iMiEV battery upgrade project

I am looking for ideas of how to ad one or two additional temperature sensors per module on the 60Ah aftermarket project. The temp sensors on the BMS boards will be too far from the cell tops for my piece on mind. It will be easy to place a probe near the centre of the module but how to monitor 22 o...

Re: Aftermarket iMiEV battery upgrade project

Andreas, sorry but that's not what I'm asking. I want to know what happens to Graeme/Mike's car with the 94 Ah cells. Yes, we are on the same page, I too would like to know how the "brain" in the iMiEV restricts the use of more cell capacity. Is it happening at charging or at discharge, or both? My...

Re: Aftermarket iMiEV battery upgrade project

Do you have a handle on how far it'll actually drive until power gets reduced? (i.e., not just lighting the turtle, but actually acting like one.) After the 12%/10% turtle light, I believe that when the estimated SOC gets to 0%, the car stops dead. Like a turtle 🐢 on its back :o I test drove my iMi...

Re: Aftermarket iMiEV battery upgrade project

Just to clarify, I use the i909 to check the pack( for some reason the Canion app while still correctly reads and displays some date, the individual cell volts and temperatures are locked. The i909 is clumsy to read, but has much more info than Canion or EvBatMon, reads all pack and cell voltages, m...

Re: Aftermarket iMiEV battery upgrade project

I feel its using the lower part but I really need to examine it closer.. I agree the lifespan should be great even as it is now .. but much better too if we can get to the other 45Ah. Can you check the cell volt shortly before it stops charging? Or even more valuable would be to know if the cell ba...

Car now comes up Ready and the charger works, but the coolant motor won't run, so I daren't run it for more than a few seconds. I remember at one stage when the OBC was removed, I turned on the "ignition" to observe indicators and the coolant pump ran then, even though there was no coolant in the r...

Re: Aftermarket iMiEV battery upgrade project

Something else I should have thought of a long time ago but only realised recently. With the cells standing up rather than laying on their sides, the BMS boards are not protected any more from the cold cooling air by being hidden away between the modules. This may have several issues, one is the cool...

Re: jonescg's home battery storage system

I can agree with that. A while back I got a power meter and started tracking down drains and found that if I left everything on my entertainment unit (TV, VCR, DVD etc) on 'standby' it pulled 850W . On the plus side I've always turned the main switch off on devices, the meter just justified ...

The i909 is ok and so is EvBatMon and CanIon, but none can reset ...

Re: jonescg's home battery storage system

Correct, they don't care what phase carried how much current (although it can be determined). They only care about total energy imported or exported and at what time of day. Some distributors have a phase unbalance limit. But your export limit is probably too small for that to apply, if it would ap...

Re: Nuggetgalore's iMiEV charger failure

Heh. I found the plug (opposite the inlet hose from the inverter) and tried to remove it with a 6 mm Allen key. Nothing doing. Having broken an Allen key many years ago in the same circumstances (and still wearing the scar), I abandoned the attempt. The plug and the inlet hose are at the same level...
