Re: EV labelling laws
To be clear (and as it states in the letter in the image), it only applies to EVs made this year onwards. Those of us with older EVs don't need to bother, which partially defeats the point of the labels in the first place.

Re: EV-Only "Fuel" Tax On The Govt Agenda
The Australian industry is still at a point where we should be subsidising EVs, not taxing them.
I, a layman with no say in the matter, propose the following: A temporary $5000 subsidy for all EVs, paid for by a permanent road user charge on all vehicles.

Re: No more i-miev's
Lets say you drive 300,000km before a battery change in 10 years on the standard pack. Now lets say you still drive 300,000km in the 10 years but you pay an extra $10,000 for a bigger pack. Or perhaps you still drive 300,000km in the 10 years but pay an extra $25,000 for a super sized pack. Then ma...

Re: No more i-miev's
Another trouble is that is barely changed in almost a decade, while technology keeps marching on. Not really. The motor, controller and batteries that are in the i-miev are all still relevant. Only the looks and gimmicky junk that is in the car has changed. It should have been a consolidation of pa...

Re: No more i-miev's
Another trouble is that is barely changed in almost a decade, while technology keeps marching on. Mitsubishi was effectively still trying to get people to buy an early-adopter's car after the early adopter period faded away. Well, except here. We're still kinda in that early adopter stage, if you ju...

Re: Getting a better map on 2010 iMiEV
I discovered something yesterday (before seeing your comment). I've owned an imiev for three or four years now, and I only yesterday learned the GPS has a disc drive. This may make updating easier; maybe. I was previously trying to install the update via USB, and the instructions were getting me now...

It all depends on how efficient the car is. Maybe there'll be a big ol' parachute on the back and it will have less range than the original Leaf.

Re: Getting a better map on 2010 iMiEV
I'm pretty sure my phone would support Android Auto; it's pretty new and I do use my phone for GPS directions at times when my car is taking upwards of half an hour to find the satellites. I'm willing to look at spending more, since a new unit would have a more responsive screen, among other things....

Getting a better map on 2010 iMiEV
I'm having trouble following the instructions to update the map data for the GPS; so I'm considering just replacing the whole unit. Does anyone have any recommendations for a replacement, preferably costing less than the ~AU$200 the map update for the built in unit would cost? Failing that, who here...

Re: Evie Networks - ultra-rapid network
Good pickup! Don't understand all the secrecy about locations both before and after the sites are built. Surely you'd want to raise the profile of your sites among EV and non-EV drivers alike if you want to build momentum for your services. Let's hope that Evie promote their fast charger network be...

I recognise these cars exist; that much was obvious with a quick google. I just don't see evidence that they are currently available new in Australia

Re: EVs available in Australia (list)
I've added the ACEs and Porsche, but I couldn't find any of those BMW or Mercedes PHEVs on their official website and so I'm not confident they are currently available.
I've also alphabetised the lists.

Re: EVs available in Australia (list)
There really are so many more PHEVs available than I thought. I'll take the Volt off the list and stick to cars available new, I think.
I'll add all those PHEVs to the list now, as well as two of the ACE EVs. As far as I can tell, the ACE Urban is not available yet but the Cargo and Yewt are.

Re: EVs available in Australia (list)
Thanks, added. While it has always felt to me that we don't have enough EV models, I'm definitely seeing a respectable number of PHEVs these days. All the more so because those PHEVs are part of their main lineups, not some quirky extra like the Leaf or the Zoe.

Re: EVs available in Australia (list)
Learned of the MINI Countryman Hybrid yesterday and I've added it to the PHEV list. MINI will also be releasing the Clubman Hybrid later this year, another PHEV.
They say they've got a pure EV set for next year too, but so far it's just another concept EV to add to the pile.

Re: Hyundai Australia Kona EV info
I’m definitely back to the Model 3! Crazy prices! Our dealer quoted me just a few dollars change out of $70k for a Highlander, which you need to get for even LED headlamps, which IMHO should be across the range. Even our Mitsubishi PHEV has that- I could not go back to Halogens! They have lost us. ...

Re: Tesla for sale 30k jeg in gumtree
For future reference (or for handy trivia) NSW no longer recognises any cars as repairable writeoffs. All writeoffs are statutory there. As far as I know there is an exception to this rule if you have owned the car for more than 90 days and it would otherwise be considered ‘repairable’. This would ...

Ah I thought it said repairable write off. I still couldn't get my head around trying to fix it then export it. Is there some other country that it has better value to make it worthwhile exporting? Its sold now anyway. For future reference (or for handy trivia) NSW no longer recognises any cars as ...

I can't quite tell if any customers are driving their Konas yet based on these forums, but I'd say the release is so imminent that it is worth moving from "coming soon" to released. I have just done so.

Re: Highway travelling at slower speeds
I've been that driver who drove slow to save range on a freeway; pretty sure I pissed off everyone behind me. I was justified because I still ran out of charge before my destination.
I'm never doing another road trip again unless I am 100% confident that I can do it at or near the speed limit.

Renting EVs (short term)
What options are there at the moment for renting an EV? I'm looking in Victoria, for what it matters, but I'm also curious about options in other states.
When I look at the major rental companies, the closest I see is a hybrid or PHEV.

But there is no warranty either. You could be buying a lemon. But I have bought plenty of ICE cars from Japan over the years. The better quality of broker the better the result. While not as extensive as for a new car, there are statutory warranties for used cars bought from dealerships. If you buy...
