Whats a battery life span
My EV is now 6 years old and I calculated 1,200 cycles. I've had a few batteries completely fail and I've replaced them. The bank, as a whole, appears to have the similar capacity to new but cannot provide the same current so the car doesn't accelerate as quickly and the top speed has dropped. They ...

Curtis Controller Repairs
I have 2 Curtis 1231C controllers which are both dead. Does anybody repair these? I suspect the suppliers reply will be to send back to America at my expence, which could be be a waist of money. I don't mind giving them to somebody to have a go. I am not in a real hurry as I have a temporary unit in...

Air Conditioning
I have been playing with getting the air conditioner working in my EV. I have bought a 1440 V DC motor and ran a fan belt to the original air con compressor. (My main drive motor doesn't have a shaft out both ends). It sought of works, the electric motor is rated at 144 volts whilst me car is 120 vo...

Vic Registration for EVs
I've had a win. I just got a $200 cheque from VicRoads as a rebate on my over charged registration over 2 years. Full EVs get the same $100 rego discount (in Victoria) as hybrids and for some reason I was not getting my discount so they have sent me a cheque. I did have to chase it. I read about the...

Faulty Curtis
I have the standard Curtis 1231C, it has been going fine for 2 years then it appears to have stopped. I run through the test steps on Page 29 (Fig 18) of the manual and all is OK until the 'Check for Controller Output' and there is no voltage coming out (B+ to M-). I wired up 12 volts to motor and i...

Air Con Motor
I want to get the air con going in my EV. The car originally had air con so I thought I would use the original compressor and drive it with a motor running off my batteries. My main drive motor does not have an auxilary drive shaft. Does anybody know where I can get a 1KW 120V DC motor? I looked at ...

EV Car Wiring Diagram ?
One comment on the ZEVA circuit diagram: It would appear that the emrgency red button is low voltage and just operates the contactors. I would prefer to see it directly cut the high power circuit. If somthing goes wrong in that EZMS box the red button may not function as required.

Throttle Potentiomenter
Well I pull the unit out and the actual varable resistor part has been sealed so I couldn't clean the contacts etc. It turns out to be an actaul Curtis product, PR6 ? I think.
I then increase the return spring pressure and this has stopped it being sticky.
A simple soultion in the end.

Throttle Potentiomenter
Thanks for the replies. I am not sure the actual make of the pot but it a silver box with an arm which rotates through 90 degrees and a micro switch bolted on the outside as an after thought. I have seen a few cars with them. It controls a Curtis controller. It has been in daily use for about a year...

I have the standard throttle potentioment (silver box with arm which rotates though 90 degress and a bolted in micro switch) which everybody appears to use. Towing a Generator
I was thinking.... To extend the range of an EV I could tow a small trailer with a diesel generator set in it. As I drive I might be drawing 100 amps so if I had the generator say charging at 50 amps it would increase my range by 50%. Stop for lunch for an hour then off you go again. I assume people...

Heater-- Demister
I have recently put the ceramic core from a domestic 240 Volt fan heat in to replace the water heater core. Fortunately it is relatively easy to get at the orginal heater core on my car. I am running 120 Volts. The ceramic core would only draw 4 amps which is not enough to really work as a demister ...

I've a TBS Electronics e-xpert 501 gauge on my car, all connected up and working. It runs through a 10:1 converter. I have 38 120ah Thunder Sky batteries. All the features work (volts, ampres, AH etc.) but I'm having trouble getting the State of Charge % to read correctly, it show a very high percen...

I have found an insurer at a reasonable rate. It is the Just Cars magazine insurance arm. The quote is about 20% more than my regular similar size petrol car. Vigil was the other insurer who gave a quote but it was too expensive. I was interested to note in the resent meeting minutes that somebody g...

Does any body know where I can get some pricing and purchase these Masterflux compressors and controllers? They look lick a good unit for an air con in an EV. Quiet Vacum Pump
The vacum pump I am using makes a bit of noise as it is pumping the air out. The noise appears to be from the air outlry tube. I have made up a tempory 'silencer' by perforating a piece of plasctic tube and wrapping it in some open weave cloth. What do other people do? Is there a standard method used?
