Re: Classic EV Conversion - Daimler 250 (V8)

If anyone has the time and knowledge to answer a few questions I would be sincerely grateful. 1. I am reasonably handy but not a mechanic nor an electrician. (I can build and fix things.) How much of the work could I possibly do myself? 2. What kind of a set-up would you recommend? I’d like to have...

Re: DIY EV Forum

Not wanting to sound paranoid, but....

If I wanted to steal your login and password (in case you used the same one for banking), I would hijack a program that accesses the web and present a forged web page of the same (copied) design. And ask for a confirmation of username/password.

Re: October Meeting

Hi Graeme, I wont be there (still in Sapphire). I am not able to get any up to date info on the QLD EH. Could you or your guest send me a link or two pliz? Also I am spreading the word around here to potential charging locations. I have run out of handouts. Could you post some to me please? I am hap...

Re: Latest posts at the top of the page

Dyslexic explains it.

Also your "3" was "E" backwards which, I think, would appear ok as a "3".

By total coincidence, my yahoo username is j3ffj which I created yonks ago "just to be different".

Re: Latest posts at the top of the page

Evening,

I go into new posts and read the ones that interest me.

In the old forum format I could then select "Mark all as read". Is this available?

Thanks

Re: Off-grid EVSE

Yes, I can see that it would be like PWM with the controller cutting in and out. As I would be doing the EVSE controller from scratch (PIC microprocessor) I much prefer to "follow the sun" with 1A resolution. I am happy to use the battery voltage as the indication of state of charge. I have a separa...

Re: Off-grid EVSE

As I understand the issue, this regulator may solve the problem of charging the vehicle only when the main battery bank is full or above a predetermined voltage. Any processes can also be turned off when either the main or secondary battery banks drop to a certain voltage or SOC. If you google Plas...

Re: Off-grid EVSE

Hi. I just got back to reading this forum. Since the layout change I had struggled to find the "new posts" option. The answer is NO, I have not yet built this charger. I have moved my base temporarily to my newly acquired sapphire mining claim in Sapphire, Queensland. So far, I have installed just e...

Anyone run their EV from home battery storage?

As we've talked about on the other thread, you are most likely going to be stymied by the 6 Amp lower limit on EVSE. The Leaf/iMiev chargers most likely will not go below this. I wonder if another idea might be to create a low current CHAdeMO charger - totally current controllable? I have installed...

Anyone run their EV from home battery storage?

I seem to remember this EVSE project on an other thread. I would be very interested in a unit . I run my standalone solar with a PLC but not enough I/Os (and knowledge) to go that far. http://forums.aeva.asn.au/viewtopic.php?title=offgrid-evse&t=5122 I will be calling for expressions of interest as...

Anyone run their EV from home battery storage?

Larry Mudd charges his iMiEV from stored PV, and I believe Jeffthewalker (Jeff Johnson) charges his Leaf from an off-grid system in Beaudesert Qld. Yep, charging from solar/storage as we speak. I am corresponding with eMotorWerks with an aim to modify their JuiceBox EVSE so that it charges at a var...

Off-grid EVSE

All very interesting but currently way to technical for me. First I wish somebody would answer the following question: is there a basic problem to charge my iMiEV with a run of the mill DC to 240 V AC inverter (off grid solar +batts). Can it damage the onboard charger or the batteries of the EV...

Please give my apologies.

I went into town (Beaudesert) yesterday and I won't have enough time for a full charge from my off-grid setup.

See you (all) next time.

What EVSE to replace dead Origin/ChargePoint?

That's a 50 Hz transformer. You don't see many of those any more. [ Edit: in consumer goods. ] Transformers only work on fixed AC voltages, in this case 230 V and 19.6 V. Without a lot of work, the best you could do was a transformer with 2 120 V primary windings, and a double pole double throw swi...

What EVSE to replace dead Origin/ChargePoint?

Inside the earlier version of the Nissan/MMAU EVSE.. Note the transformer. It may be able to be swapped easily for a multivolt version...?? Google Drive link There is a relay inside that is 12V. The 19.6VAC would be rectified and used to supply the relay, the plus and minus 12 for the comms and 5V ...

What EVSE to replace dead Origin/ChargePoint?

You may need to get help from someone familiar with mains work; you need to be safe, and ensure that the final product is also safe. An EVSE is essentially a switch (relay) and some electronics to turn on and off that switch, so it's not complex in there. [ Edit: added "carefully". Safety first. ] ...

What EVSE to replace dead Origin/ChargePoint?

No Jeff they wont.... Thanks Reecho. I know that my 15A JuiceBox can take a range of AC input, including 120V. This would allow me to draw just 1800W from my solar/battery system which is better than the 2400W from the supplied LEAF EVSE. I suppose I should ask if the LEAF inbuilt charger, as suppl...

What EVSE to replace dead Origin/ChargePoint?

I am looking to ease the burden on my off-grid solar/battery system. I will be installing a 120V pure sine wave inverter. The reduced voltage will enable me to draw 720W from my system (120V X 6A). Further down the line I will design/build an EVSE that will increase the amperage draw if the system h...

Off-grid EVSE

There is a dilemma for solar powered households (and especially off-grid one) with EVs. I have had my LEAF for 15 months (and love it) and when at home I charge from the off-grid solar/battery system. The solar setup grew to 2kW and at this level is sufficient for the household when the sun shines. ...

Still has all the bars, full range on the guessometer of 168km (That's ECO mode, aircon off). Thanks for the feedback. My concern is with the kW...
