Re: Nickel Iron Batteries real data

You have the same cells as my old ones the 4 new ones are translucent white much more difficult to see the level of the electrolyte The new ones have the max fill level 20 mm from top of case I actually think the others can be filled higher Note both external dimensions the same. My enclosure is ste...

Re: sunny day but 0V from PV

If the board is dead, can I bypass it connecting the out of external mppt ?(I think the output is the red and black cables in the middle of the board). Those terminals are across the battery input so no different than connecting your external MPPT charger onto your battery. I have external MPPT cha...

Re: Nickel Iron Batteries real data

Have now made the battery enclosure and installed the cells in it. I will take a picture when I have cleaned up , a big rearrangement was needed to make space for them I purchased 4 more new cells to bring the number to 41 I have connected 36 cells in parallel with the lead acid banks as an experime...

Re: PIP-5048GE, PIP-5048GK and PIP-5048MG inverters (with unsafe SCC)

I recently had a problem similar to this. My 30ma protection circuit breaker was tripping with my washing machine but only while running on the inverter change to grid circuit with its own 30ma protection breaker all worked fine the machine is 30 years old I replaced the starting capacitor with a ne...

Now that I have found some software to capture the animated screen
here is it working
Note got rid of dry cell battery now have animated one and got rid of light globe house makes more sense
https://youtu.be/irECmmy1-ds

This will be my base screen for normal monitoring

Re: PIP-5048GE, PIP-5048GK and PIP-5048MG inverters (with unsafe SCC)

This means that the 64 V models can no longer produce a sine wave when the battery voltage falls below 48 V! Instead, the waveform is clipped top and bottom, and this gets worse as the battery drops further. In the 58.4 V models, the onset of clipping is a far more acceptable 42 V. So it seems that...

Re: AGM for home storage?

Lead acid the rule is use 20% to get long life Lead acid sealed no more than 1/10 of Ah as current so 100Ah 10 amps max , 500Ah 50 amps max Flooded lead acid can cope with greater discharge currents because you can add water Giant power batteries "STAY AWAY" too many having problems! Best lead batte...

Re: PIP-5048MK inverter

Hello dekin The HLK-RM04 is an rs232 to tcpip converter , wireless access point and router. If you use one at the inverter and a computer for monitoring you install "NetBurner Virtual Comm Port" on the computer and it appears as a normal com port on the computer. If you use two HLK-RM04 one at each ...

Prajna have you the communication protocol PDF file , also if you have the internet at both places you can use the HLK RM04 to connect to the inverters.
I have ATMEL AVR here talking to my inverters showing what watch power does but on two LCD screens.

Re: Is anyone using an arc welder with an offgrid system

a. Neutral link to ground. b. Ground to existing house ground (copper stake). NO definitely do not do this is against the rules you will have two earths on the neutral!!!! With the newer units they have a relay for the neutral link. If you are going to connect the inverter to a grid or generator wit...

I have the original parallel PIP4048s (big heatsink on top) with the original capacitors but my mosfets on the DC side are 80v (original with units) its now nearly 5 years I run my washing machine , two sometimes 3 split ACs , refrigerator and two 700 watt water pumps so plenty of inductive loads so...

Get a digital temperature control from ebay insulate the thermister probe with some heat shrink tubing put it in the inverter heatsink and let the temprature control unit do the cooling I have done this with extra external 120mm fans when the heatsink gets to 42C it turns them on until it gets to 36...

Re: Nickel Iron Batteries real data

Lithium hydroxide is added to reduce gassing and helps reduce the internal resistance. As far as water is concerned there are a number of filter systems available with an osmotic filter creating very pure water there are also stills available that produce 20L per hour could be run when the sun is up.

Thanks paulvk. I look forward to your data. Reading this thread so far, was like stepping back in time. Not because you're talking about NiFe cells, but because you're only comparing them to lead-acid. :) Its like oranges and apples they a flooded cells, bulky (more bulky than lead acid) , heavy an...

Nickel Iron Batteries real data

I have just got a set of Nickel Iron cells for my 48v off grid setup and as there is very little real data from people using them and a lot of negative comments largely by people who do not have them or are selling other battery tech I am going to put real facts good and bad here so real life use ca...

Re: PIP-4048MS and PIP-5048MS inverters

Was a thought ! Might have to get the 64v ones in that case, looking at NiFe as I have the grid just use the inverters to limit its use I can do more and deeper cycles with NiFe without the worry of wearing them out.

Re: PIP-4048MS and PIP-5048MS inverters

My batteries are getting old (7 years young) so been looking at alternatives coulomb can we get the voltage up to 66v for charging I still have one of my one in bits and I have 80v fets I can only see the 63v caps as a problem so change them. The reason is alkaline batteries need 66v.
