Re: 10 Amp charging
I have a Jaycar 15 to 10 amp adaptor that is out of spec Ie allows 13 amp thru for imiev. Wanted to get another but now they are in spec. I think that's the case with Ampfibian too - the new one we got uses a different circuit breaker which pops after a few mins charging an iMiev, but I ordered a r...

Re: 10 Amp charging
Get a 15a socket? I think ours only cost about as much as 2 ampfibians. We got a quote of more like $400, and haven't done it in the 2-1/2 years I've owned the car - at this point we're planning to put it up for sale soon, so I doubt we're gonna... But yeah that would be the best way to go. I was j...

Re: Inside an iMiEV's LEV50 cell
Supercapacitors would not be practical for a car - they still offer 1 4 of the energy density of today's Li-ion cells. I'd always thought they could be very helpful as a supplemental store of charge, though. Recoup more from deceleration, feed back into the battery pack more slowly. Or just store a...

Re: 10 Amp charging
If yours is the same as mine as i think it is, it draws 12.5 A +-0.2A. Because it ramps up very slowly to max draw, the Amphibian can handle that little over and above 10A until it gets too warm for too long then trips. My Ampfibian has been getting steadily worse over the past couple of months and...

Re: iMiev won't start!
Well now I'm wondering if it was a false alarm - I drove it a lot yesterday and near-fully charged it last evening before unplugging for the night. This morning (mildly chilly, as was the initial morning) I thought I'd check the voltage before trying to power up - and I got 12.8 volts. That's not qu...

Re: iMiev won't start!
Even a little ex UPS 20ah unit would do That's actually a great idea - and not - because I have the perfect battery already, a half-dead 12v/10aH battery that charges up to about 12.7 and gives me ~10 mins on the electric mower before fading to the point where it drags down the other (good) one. I ...

iMiev won't start!
My 2010 iMiev wouldn't start this morning. The symptoms seemed odd - the 'fuel'/charge meter acting differently, and a previously-unheard beep tone. I immediately suspected the standby battery; after all, it's nearly 10 years old at this point! And a multimeter showed it reading a pathetic 7.5 volts...

Re: Tyres??
Have you tried looking for the options discussed in this thread, Kumho's seem to be available cheapish on tyresales.com.au and elsewhere. The 10mm wider option (155/60) may be easier to find than stock too, seems to fit very well. I've READ the other options but not sure what my mechanic wants to u...

Re: Tyres??
Our family's trusted-for-many-years mechanic is evaluating my 2010 iMiev for a roadworthy cert as I'm preparing to sell. He says the only thing it needs is front tires, and so far he can only find them for $200+ each, though he's going to keep looking. Anyone found better deals in Victoria?

Re: 10 Amp charging
2010 I-Miev's pull 13 Amps all the time. that will explain the continuous tripping or the breaker in the Amphibian. My 2010 iMiev charges with an Amphibian all the time and only pops the circuit breaker on days when the outdoor temp is in the high 30s or above - or if I leave it in direct sunlight....

Thanks for that - but I thought the battery had gotten significantly cheaper since the car was first released? Like, down to the $8000 range?

Re: I-MiEV Main battery cell failure
I get similar geuessometer readings after charging. But sadly this reading goes down by about 3 to 4 km after 1 km (and I use eco with a very light foot). I get about 7 km or more out of every kWh charged (measured at the power point that includes the charging losses). The battery capacity has redu...

Re: How to value my iMiev for sale?
I suspect the EVbatmon app output is the closest thing around to a battery condition report, but I can't get it to work on mine. Canion allows you to show the cell voltages. The RR reading is probably a good thing for sales. Would certainly be harder to sell if that is showing 60. I can certainly g...

Re: How to value my iMiev for sale?
On the other hand, if anyone really wants an electric car under $20k, there is not much available so you might get $15,000 for it. There are usually one or two listed on carsales.com.au at $15k-$20 at any given time. Currently only one there, asking $19k. Yeah, I don't think the book value means mu...

How to value my iMiev for sale?
Hey all - it's time to sell my dear 2010 iMiev... it was great while I was commuting over an hour a day, but now I'm a house-husband, keeping it in the driveway for occasional trips to the store doesn't make sense. I don't expect to get close to what I paid for it, as I bought it while it was still ...

Re: 10 Amp charging
My answer is "give it a try and see"... sometimes you just get lucky. The first time I ever saw the insides of a VCR, I happened to fix a mechanical problem with a rubber band (I was maybe 16). Just recently, I fixed a handheld media player (which was an expensive item ~6 yrs ago) by opening it up a...

Tried scantools obdlink mx and lx. But they seem to keep asking to pair after 5 mins. Also noticed that if blue tooth audio is switched on, Connection to canion is not stable. I also bought the Anet A8 after reading dozens of positive reviews. It's remarkably complete, capable and flexible, especially for the money. The advantage of building it from a kit is that you understand how every part fits together, and feel confident deciding what to upgrade or tweak going forwar...

Re: iMiEV - any good?
FWIW - I'm in Melbourne and am considering selling my iMiev! It's a 2010, and I believe the battery to be in excellent shape as I still get a max range of over 100km on a full charge (based on the guess-o-meter). It's got 30-some-odd thousand k on it, I bought it 2 years ago with under 10k. I've rec...

No, but I for one would love to hear about yours!
I'm a fan of the wee cars too - tried to get Mercedes to let me import an electric Smart ForTwo awhile back, but they wouldn't even return my calls.
