Daihatsu Charade EV project, advise please.

evric wrote: If you have hills, the 60Ah pack would get stressed by the large motor current when going up hills - especially at a low voltage of 96V. If you want your pack to last a while... I would suggest 160Ah.

So 100Ah isn't going to cut it either?

Daihatsu Charade EV project, advise please.

Thanks very much to everyone for the helpful advise so far. All this info is really helping me learn a lot more about EVs and the calculations are coming in very handy. I can see things becoming quite expensive if i stick to wanting a range of 80km in hilly terrain without the option of regen. I'm c...

EV conversion for RWD w/no gearbox?

Ha ha I had a Corolla KE20 as the next project. But I ended up selling it as I still have enough to do! The problem with the "older" cars is they tend to need a lot of $$ just to get the body and drive train up to spec. I agree there, but I have a past in panelbeating and have a lot of general mech...

Where can I buy leaf cells from? What Ah do they come in and what's the cost?

Daihatsu Charade EV project, advise please.

I'd rather stick with the DC motor that was installed. If I had to ditch that, I'd probably just start a project on another model I'd much prefer to convert. This project is my first one and I'd like to get it up and running for minimal cost with as many of the already used components. It's really a...

EV conversion for RWD w/no gearbox?

This was something I would like to do once the Daihatsu is up and running and I have a better understanding of things. It's the kind of project I'd prefer to do, but the Daihatsu came my way quite cheaply and is worth doing first.

Daihatsu Charade EV project, advise please.

Sorry, I forgot to mention that it is my ultimate hope to get a travelling distance of at least 80km before recharging. This is how far the return journey is from my place to the Hobart CBD. It is a hilly drive and the hills are steep and long by Australian highway standards. There is hardly a level...

Anyone converted a Getz?

I've always thought these models would make a good EV conversion. They are small and lightish and there are heaps of them around. I'm sure it wouldn't be difficult to find one cheap with a knackered motor to convert.
I'd be interested to hear from anyone who has converted one too.

Daihatsu Charade EV project, advise please.

Thought I would introduce myself as I am new here. I'm Miles, currently living in the Huon Valley Tasmania and have just bought myself an abandoned EV project. It is a 1985 Daihatsu Charade. The EV conversion was completed a decade ago with lead acid batteries, but the vehicle has been left for a wh...

EV conversion for RWD w/no gearbox?

I'm interested in doing a EV conversion on a small rear wheel drive and not using a gearbox, but running motor shaft into prop shaft/diff, perhaps mounting it mid-vehicle for balance. Obviously the benefit is that there is a weight saving, but I'd be interested to hear opinions from anyone who has a...
