Re: Imiev repair - precharge resistor

Yes, the original part seems a triplet, and I know two thirds of it are working. However in terms of physically fitting a separate contactor, it might present more difficulties than parting with $200. But also true that I'll check it before ordering :)

Re: Imiev repair - precharge resistor

All the contactor coils (negative, main positive and precharge) read 36 Ω ± 0.3Ω. But yes it's certainly possible. Luckily in the same thread referenced above someone has pulled one: http://i.imgur.com/2I9XTvP.jpg Doesn't seem to be carried by digikey or rs components, so it might be tricky to track...

Re: Imiev repair - precharge resistor

Thanks for the insight. I think 100W should be plenty, but I also can't confirm the size of the capacitor. The discharge resistor is a 15W part (from memory a white ceramic boxy part) which tells me something. I'll see what I can dig up on that side of the circuit. I'll check what is available local...

Re: Aftermarket iMiEV battery upgrade project

On the video at https://youtu.be/VsYd4NXaMpo they replace a single cell, with what looks like a drop in replacement.

In the comments they suggest some suppliers of cells: 65ah - https://m.aliexpress.com/item/32514797426.html

and 100ah - https://m.aliexpress.com/item/32841599932.html

Re: Imiev repair - precharge resistor

I think the duty cycle is normally limited by the charging time of the inverter capacitor. Although the ground fault which caused the excess current was detected (based on trouble codes), it doesn't seem the ECU disengaged quickly enough - I guess there is also a delay in the contactor. I guess simu...

Imiev repair - precharge resistor

Does anyone know the specs for the pre-charge resistor in the imiev battery pack? In the process of diagnosing a failure to start (go into "ready") of our imiev, we believe we have isolated the issue to the pre-charge contactor and resistor. We are able to trigger the negative, main positive and pre...

Good news!
I wonder if this was the original issue? Or one introduced in the change over?

Re: minicab miev

Someone has to bite the bullet and spend about $10k on a potential failure. You'd want to at least have an alternative use for the cells if the car won't work with them. I'll definitely consider it when my pack doesn't give me the range anymore, but given pricing around $12k for a low mileage minica...

Re: Aftermarket iMiEV battery upgrade project

It really depends on the implementation detail of the BMS. If it's just based on voltage, it should just think the charge and discharge rates are lower. However the imiev BMS has a capacity estimation, so it is counting coulombs/current as well. It may throw an error if it thinks it's not reading th...

Re: i-MiEV not charging, high voltage warning light and battery

Sorry to hear that Mike. I hope they come up with a solution that doesn't delay things more. I got my i909, and read a new P1A15 trouble code from my imiev. It's the only "active" code, which means we've no evidence our charger repair hasn't worked, but have a new problem. Unfortunately the i909 doe...

Re: Calculating Home Charging Costs

I've got a kWh meter on the car charging circuit in the switch board. However we have time of use metering, and solar, so it would still be impossible to know what the charging fees were. Do you factor in a percentage of the cost of the solar system? Any such figures are generally estimates, but for...

Re: i-MiEV not charging, high voltage warning light and battery

I can't imagine it's not fixable, although they might have to phone a friend in Japan. It would also be silly for them to replace such an expensive part without fixing it.

Re: i-MiEV not charging, high voltage warning light and battery

Hmm, a different location?

I would have assumed the trouble codes were unique to their source and all ended up on the same data bus. But I've seen some diagrams showing another can bus in the imiev.

Re: i-MiEV not charging, high voltage warning light and battery

Replaced the snubber capacitors, put in a temporary fuse, put it all back together and into the car. Still have the warning lights on.

I wonder if we have another fault elsewhere or if we need to clear the error codes before it will attempt to charge?

For me it displayed $20 +$9 for Fastway courier delivery (may be cheaper on east coast?). However when one proceeds there is a "request a quote" screen rather than a "buy now" screen. The message says this is because they don't have a weight for the part to calculate accurate shipping. I've requeste...

Yeah, I wouldn't have thought a paper version existed. And when I happened to get an electronic copy it wanted to run in Internet Explorer version 6.

Maybe they should use http://mmc-manuals.ru/Mitsubishi_i-MiEV ... ce_Manuals!

Re: Dcdc converter died maybe?

It's a common symptom of a failure in the charger/DC-DC unit. Sometimes just the fuse goes, but an increasing number of imiev's are seeing burnt out capacitors within the charger unit. Not sure which way the causal relation goes. The fuse is a good first port of call though. Beyond that, you may wan...

Re: Aftermarket iMiEV battery upgrade project

Bypassing the computer that refuses to accept the battery would be a matter of using an off the shelf component to replace it. You could get to the point you'd essentially done a "conversion" on the imiev with all the parts one might use for an ICE conversion except the drive unit. Would it be worth...

I've invested more in "money pit" cars that were only going to cost more money when I was younger (and dumber?). With any luck the savings in fuel pay for the batteries as the prices come down. I've seen figures around the $6K mark for Mitsubishi battery replacements on the internet though, so I'm n...
