Re: i-MiEV not charging, high voltage warning light and battery
Mike: With the spare I-MIEV I have as a test bed, I've even tested that the car can still drive and go to "READY" with the charger not even fitted to the car. You get the coolant error, and Aux battery charging error, but the car still goes to "READY" and can drive. WARNING MCU will fail if this is ...

Re: I-miev repair
Hi Harp:
For once, Mitsubishi original part is readily available and price not too bad.
The Mitsubishi part number for the 20Amp fuse 450v is 9499A656
We ordered one from the dealership in Waneroo, and it came in a overnight bag
from eastern states so we had it next day. We paid $24 for it.

Re: I-miev repair
For the High Voltage 20amp fuse, Locating Replacements is a bit hard, and they are a little expensive at $24 a pop, so if you are rebuilding and re-testing, poping the fuse twice will set you back almost $50 I am thinking of re-cycling the original fuse, by drilling small holes through the end caps,...

I-MIEV Battery Replacement warning
Hi Doug: It's a bit hit and miss on the battery warranty, It sounds like joseph put in a warrenty claim, and Mitsubishi has sent back a letter which sounds like they may be going to replace his battery under warranty. Another guy that recently bought one of the Mitsu trial cars, Mitsu replaced the b...

Hi Kurt: Yes, buy only using 10% of the lead acid battery capacity, I am getting extremely long life out of my lead acid batteries. The only time I would approach a deep cycle would be a whole week of rain. I started my solar project when I moved to a vacant lot out here in Gidge back in 84. so I st...

Hi Johnny: I originally had 1 room for power inverters, and 1 room for 6 banks of lead acid batteries. It was requirement when I got the solar rebate that the batteries and the inverters/regulators were in seperate rooms from each other. Then when I expanded and added 5 more banks of lead acid, I pu...

Hi Kurt: I do have a bit demand on power here. I am running a home, and a workshed, and charging the IMEV. The workshed runs arc welder and bench grinder ect, The house has a fridge and two freezers, and due to heat wave here in WA, I run Air conditioning most of the day. The 105kw is a bit of overk...

Yea, your right about complex, it's quite a bit of a rats nets. Out of each BMU, are 9 wires that connect across the cells being monitored (ground and 8 voltage lines) and 2 wires that control the external switching relay. So 11 wires x 12 BMU = 132 Wires to connect up. The BMU is a simple brute fou...

Finally got my old IMIEV batteries connected to my solar home system. Below are links to the photo's (not sure if I setup the links here correctly) I've used 14 cells in a bank and 6 banks, so used 84 out of the 88 cells in the IMEV pack. I've built 12 of the BMU assemblies that Ian Hooper designed ...

I've been pretty slack with playing around with the old cells, too many other projects on at the moment. The only capacity test that my old batteries had was the capacity test run when the batteries were still in the car just before replacing. Yes, what I was suggesting was piggybacking one of my ol...

Hi g4qber I've been thinking a bit more about your range problem, and this outrageous cost increase of packs since I had my pack replaced last year. It sounds like your capacity limit is being caused by 1 cell. Since it is too costly to replace the whole pack, and has been difficult source an indivi...

I noticed that while I was getting my battery pack replaced, all the local dealerships like Paceway Mitsubishi and Southside were going through the change over, as they were being taken over by AVG. I wonder if now that AVG is running these if there is additional markup now being put on parts?

The exchange rage from US to AU has probably caused an increase in price on this. I see price now listed as $6075.81 Also ask if the quote is for battery pack only or the additional floor plats and plug. The floor plates and plugs are "recommended" but not really required as the old ones can be re-u...

Siai47 uses a 12kw Manzanita Micro PFC-50B into the Chademo port, which is a lot cheaper charger than my TDK Bi-directional DC-DC Converts, and he can do 12kw in while I can only do 5kw in.

offgridQLD: You can't tell from the photo, but the cells are 2x high, so 8 cells on top of 8 cells along one side and 8 cells on top of 8 cells on the other side. This is 32 cells per box (2 banks of 48v per box) around 6kw per box x 2 boxes =12kw. The cost of the DC-DC Converters doesn't make this ...

Hi Malm: Yes, after getting the new battery fitted, It came up as 48ah, so in reality, even though they call it a 50ah pack, A new pack is starting off at 48ah. So my old pack had a reading of 36.6ah which would actually be 76.25% from what I can see now. Another thing to consider is that when the b...

Thought I'd share some photo's of a range extener setup I've built. I got the idea from the E-Jerrycan post that I saw here. It used an inverter to go from extender batteries to 240vac and back through the on board charger, which means you could not be charging from the extender to the car battery p...

I've talked to Rodney at EVPOWER a while back about a version of the monitor boards modified to suite the I-MIEV cells. Hi offgrid / antiscab: I see what you mean, looks like I will be configuring 6 banks of 14 cells, so I'll use 84 cells out of the 88 with 4 (1 LEV50-4 spare) It looks like the LEV50-4 have a cover that can be removed and then remove the buss bars, and individual cells can be seperated, so doing 14 c...
