Re: Kona EV Real World Range Experience

...All my EV's vary from the average by 30% either side... Ditto. Another factor that might play a part is battery temperature. When the battery is cold, any real world cell behaves like an ideal cell with some resistance in series. That internal resistance is higher when it is cold, so, for the sa...

Re: Kona AC charging question

My Wall Charger has two settings, fast = 7.2kW & Eco=1.2kw. This may indicate 7.2/3.6/1.2 for Max/medium/minimun Thanks. I wonder if max/medium/minimum just means (say) 100%/75%/50% (or some other percentages) relative to whatever maximum the EVSE sets? Anyway, glad to know the car does something l...

Re: Kona AC charging question

If your byo 20A cable is type 2 compliant, the car will limit itself to the lesser of the cable or the evse current rating automatically. Thanks for that. I had not realised that cables also communicated their current limits like an EVSE. Hmm. Not sure if it has any such smarts in it, perhaps in th...

Re: Kona AC charging question

Any EVSE set to a lower limit will be fine. I built my 3.6kW portable EVSE specifically for caravan park 15A outlets. Worked perfectly on the EV Long Weekend tour with my Kona. 😊 BTW, from memory the Kona itself can be set for lower charge rates if you want it to. Cheers Bryce Thanks. I realise the...

Re: Kona AC charging question

Any reason you want a slower charge rate? Its only a 7kw on board charger which is ~0.1c of the pack(64kwh), you're not going to shorten the life of the battery at the max AC charge rate Yes, I realise that. I have an cable that I could use at BYO cable public charging outlets but a sticker says it...

Kona AC charging question

I have a Kona electric on order so I don't yet have an instruction book to read. I have a couple of charging questions. 1) If I am charging from (say) a 32A or greater EVSE, so the car could be AC charging as fast as it is capable of charging, is there an option inside the car to select a slower cha...

Re: Hyundai Australia Kona EV info

...So why do my first 2 calculations suggest 78kWh? Where is my error?... Perhaps you could ask your Hyundai dealer or Hyundai's national technical help line? No, sorry, only kidding! Obviously they wouldn't have a clue. My guess is that the battery management system (BMS) might still be learning w...

Re: Hyundai Australia Kona EV info

I'd be surprised if it didn't support single phase charging, particularly given the US market is nearly all single phase charging I am not suggesting that it would not support single phase charging. I expect the three phase charger would operate on one phase if it only found power applied to one in...

Re: Limited Kona Electric Floor mat options in Oz

A bit of lateral thinking. Not sure the dealer would let me do that. The dealer should treat you like royalty since you spent many thousands of dollars with them. It costs them nothing to be helpful to you since they could not sell you the product you wanted. They should see it as in investment in ...

Frunk/Froot for Kona

This ‘frunk’ or ‘froot’ almost fits too well to be coincidence: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5kurEcjkVBk You can skip the first half of the video - it is just fitting a gas lift strut thingy to the bonnet. See how the moulded charge cable and accessory tray just neatly fits under the bonnet. Also...

Re: iMiEV Sat Nav replacement with Apple CarPlay and reversing cam

The Mitsubishi-supplied Eclipse-brand sat nav/stereo has the sockets in the back to take a reversing camera input and automatically come on when reverse is selected in the car. We got one installed when I realised that the Eclipse device could be bought from car accessory places to put in any car an...

Re: Kona EV Real World Range Experience

...If driving at a stable 80km/h, does driving in regent "3" or "0" change anything to the power consumption? One would assume not... I own two other EVs, not the Kona, but the level of regen selected for backing off the throttle should make no difference when just driving at a steady speed and not...

For Sale: MY12 Mitsubishi iMiEV (now sold)

We have decided to sell our 100% battery electric Mitsubishi iMiEV city car. With both of us now retired and kids left home we can’t justify two cars so easily. We will replace them with one long-range new electric car. We are in Canberra and asking $10,000. Aside from a few very minor cosmetic scuf...

Very interesting. I suppose it is best not to drive past without an attempt at them all!
If you see on PlugShare that non-Teslas have successfully charged, you can be pretty sure it will work with a Hyundai.

Re: I've got my Kona

For you Kona aficionados: 1. Can you get a factory tow bar? Or indeed any tow bar? With electrics? Approx price? 2. Can you get roof bars? As it seems the same as other non-EV Konas, I assume the answer is yes? Regds, Dave See: https://thedriven.io/2019/06/10/towing-a-caravan-with-an-electric-car-c...

At least two good options for lunch in Jugiong. Bring your granny charger and an extension cord. You can use the 10A socket in the toilet block in the park, if all else fails. ;)
