Re: Repair 10A-15A Converter?

OK, I bought a replacement RCD today from MM Electrical at Rockingham. I bought a Clipsal RCBM210/30 240V/10A RCD and at $41.22, I thought I'd paid quite a lot for it until I saw the RRP on the Clipsal website. I know manufacturer RRPs are always a bit fantasy-land, but $182.20? I figured this must ...

Re: Repair 10A-15A Converter?

Thanks brendon_m , I've found mm electrical to be cheaper than l&h for a lot of things so you should definitely see what they do them for if there is one near you I'd not heard of mm electrical before and it turns out there's one lurking almost across the road from our local L&H in Rockingham so I'l...

Re: Repair 10A-15A Converter?

L&H have the same one but I'm not a sparky so I don't have a login to check the price. I notice they have two different 10A units, one with a "rated fault current" of 10mA and the other 30mA. The one in my converter is 30mA, is that the best rating to get, or a "cheaper option"? Also, in the blurb a...

Re: Repair 10A-15A Converter?

Thanks for the reply and link reecho . I'd actually found that one already, thinking it looks like it'd work. Just need to be confident the specs are OK for the task (ie shutting down if something tries to pull more than 10A from the socket). If I believe Clipsal marketing, their gear is good qualit...

Repair 10A-15A Converter?

Hi all, I've got a Jaycar 10A-15A converter + RCD that has died on me. The orange LED on the side lights up when you plug it in to the wall and switch it on, but the socket in the unit itself is dead and the RCD shows no sign of life: the test button doesn't work and the on/off switch doesn't seem t...

Re: 2018 Nissan Leaf!

Rarely happy to receive spam, but just received one from Nissan re the new Leaf which I was delighted to see. Sadly, the link from the email to the Nissan Website was to a page about a fancy new feature rather than hard info like "available to order NOW for $xxxxxx" so still all a bit "vapourwareish...

Re: Driving an EV in slow moving traffic?

Hi Dave, I'm guessing you can't "dial up" the amount of regenerative braking in a Zoe? This is a feature of the Outlander PHEV that I really love. I can adjust the level of regen with the steering wheel paddles, rather like changing down gears in a manual (or Auto for that matter). I tweak regen up ...

Re: Renault EVs

I have no formal evidence for this, but the very strong vibe in Oz is that a decent swag of drivers are ready to upgrade to an EV, they're just waiting for the right price/range combination to be available to buy. From my previous experience, the only other obstacle is new vehicle salespeople dissua...

Thanks for the update @doggy, great to hear something positive about the Zoe. Maybe if Renault tried to sell them aggressively they'd have trouble keeping up with demand?

... This won't be cheap, so I would appreciate any financial support to cover this cost. I expect it to be a couple of hundred dollars at either end. I think the fairest way to do this would be for our profiteer to pay out of his legal but unethical windfall. As that is unlikely to happen, the next...

Can you make PCBs in shapes other than rectangular?

Could you make a cell-top monitor in a broad U-shape to fit around the vent?

I don't know where we're at with electric wheel motors ATM, but I'd have thought this would be a perfect project for a couple of wheel motors, then lose all of the ICE, gearbox and Leyland's infamous universal joints :-) Of course if you had unlimited funds, 4 wheel motors would make for a ferocious...

As an absolute minimum, Chris should definitely not be out of pocket for extra freight costs for the WA cells, ...

We've been away from home since yesterday, with the PHEV left in the garage to dry out. Dreading it though as the last time we had EV troubles we were without the vehicle f...

PHEV Flood Fail

Almost a year since our PHEV failed suddenly for no obvious reason , we had the same thing happen today, albeit with possible provocation this time. We had 75mm rain (in our own rain gauge) overnight and so there were some very large puddles on the roads around our place. We headed off for our denta...

Hi Christopher, This looks like a great project. I'd like to help, but the soldering puts me off, I've never been much good at it. I followed your link to the BMS you made for your car and read in the Wiki that another option could be to get the whole board manufactured. Would this add much to the c...
