Lead Crystal batteries for non-EV application?

Hi Guys, In another forum I haunt, someone has asked about replacing existing AGM "house" batteries in a Recreational Vehicle with some "Lead Crystal" batteries. From my brief reading, Lead Crystal batteries are the absolute beez neez and will cure everything from the common cold to AIDS. So, I am s...

Re: Arvio 3.5kWh drop-in-battery-replacement supercapacitor on sale

I've been watching this debate with interest; much of the detail, from much cleverer brains than mine, is over my head. However, this one caught my eye... 1- the capacitors we are using have the energy delivery in terms of kWh not in AH while LTO is in Ah Admittedly I did secondary school Physics ba...

...If your friend is making that much money from his power exports he is likely on a high feed in tariff, which may get cancelled if he installs a battery. I don't know what the situation is in Queensland, but he would need to look carefully at the terms, as a battery might make him less money... E...

Re: iMiev won't start!

Hi Coulomb, Then there are the hybrids; I believe you drive on yourself, Rob. When you start the ICE, is that with the 12 V battery or the hybrid battery? I'm guessing the latter, but it possibly depends on how they design it. Especially with something like the Outlander which comes in ICE only and ...

Re: iMiev won't start!

I'm no expert, but my experience with Pb batteries is that when they reach the end of their tether they can have random "collapse" episodes and then behave perfectly normally in between. As Murphy is usually involved, collapses usually happen at the least convenient moment

Has anyone bought a new Renault ICE in recent years? Are they as reluctant to sell their ICE models?

Re: Odometer tax?

Hi Chris,

Thanks for the facts :)

If you get a chance, you or Richard may want to listen to the podcast of this morning's ABC Perth show (starting from 8:30am) and perhaps ring in today or tomorrow to correct any misinformation. If you've not done so already of course!

Cheers,

Rob

Have EV sales suddenly grown by several orders of magnitude while I was out bush over the past fortnight? I wanted to ri...

rhills, do you have a battery SOH (Ah capacity reading or PMC) before and after this issue? Thanks for the comments guys. zzcoopej unfortunately I don't have any of those measurements. I admit I've not pushed for them from the dealer the way others have, but my experience so far with Mitsubishi EV ...

Re: Outlander PHEV suddenly disabled

Hi Paul, Hmmm, thought I'd updated this tale, but evidently not. Melville Mitsubishi ended up having our vehicle for over a month. They offered us a replacement drive (non-EV/PHEV) after a couple of weeks from memory. I called them weekly for an update and after drawing a blank on their own troubles...

Re: Labelling of Battery Compartment ???

With regulations, you have to read every word carefully IMHO: Each battery compartment should be labelled with the appropriate hazard symbols for the battery chemistry in use . (my emphasis). To me that doesn't mean you have to specify what the battery chemistry is, just warn about the hazards "appr...

Re: Renault EVs now available in Oz

I buy a lot of stuff online, so I've got used to making purchases without feeling the need to touch beforehand. However, despite this and my passion for EVs, I couldn't bring myself to spend this kind of money without a test drive at least and I believe most car buyers would feel the same. So, eithe...

Re: 10 Amp charging

Thanks @4Springs. The light comes on all the time and doesn't change with any flexing of the input cable. However, the RCD test button doesn't do anything so I'm guessing the input is OK, but there's either a problem within the RCD relay or between it and the input cable within the box itself.

Hi All, Bought a Jaycar 15A-10A converter a bit over 3 years ago when we bought our PHEV. Initially used it occasionally when charging the PHEV from a 10A powerpoint, don't believe it ever got wet. Great news, but... why limit sales to businesses only??? What's stopping them from selling to anyone who wants to stump up the readies? Do they ever limit sales of any of their fossil-fuelled models to any subset of the population?

Well done acmotor! I personally like wind turbines, but the domestic-sized ones all share the problem that they really only produce decent output in very unpleasant conditions. As you say, it probably makes one feel a little more cosy in bed on a stormy night to think that lots of power is going in ...

I think the volt evse was a lot cheaper than that, don't know how easy it is to find still find one. You shouldn't need the ampfibian as well if you get a 10a EVSE, the volt one has a 10amp plug I think. I believe some outlander PHEV owners also got a 10a evse which should work. I use the Volt EVSE...

Outlander PHEV Range Extender?

Was just discussing with my brother crustovich whether extra cells + bits like these could be made into a useful range-extender for the Mitsu Outlander PHEV. Unfortunately neither of us knows enough about it to work out if it would be a worthwhile project. Anyone care to comment? In a perfect world,...
