Re: Phantom Drain
dashroad Here's a link to an article about sentry mode drain - https://www.xautoworld.com/tesla/sentry-energy-improvement/ . It shows a range of 160W to 315W. My experience from using it overnight in October 2019 was ~250W per hour. There could be a number of other reasons for the high drain e.g. c...

Re: Phantom Drain
If you're running sentry cam 24/7 it will draw ~6kWh per day.
Switch sentry cam off and drain will be under 1kWh per day.

Re: MG ZS EV
Can hardly blame the dealerships for disinterest in EVs, after all there is no ongoing parts / service revenue. MG ZS EV service costs in Australia are apparently $160 per year and $800 every fourth year. That averages out to equivalent MG petrol car servicing costs (thanks to the very high 4 year ...
Re: MG ZS EV
I test drove a white MG ZS EV yesterday in Sydney (Sat 22nd Nov 2020).
The EVSE in the boot had a 10A plug. Didn't check what output it supports as it was wrapped in plastic but likely 6A or 8A based on posts I've seen in the NZ ZS EV facebook group. Definitely not a 15A EVSE.

The EV Council have provided a similar analysis in their recent report by EY at https://electricvehiclecouncil.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/EV-True-Value.pdf . Oddly, the larger the differential in price, the better for Government revenue due to higher GST and stamp duty on purchase. As the dif...

Hyundai have stopped sales of all Kona electrics in the USA along with recalling all Kona electrics sold in the US and Canada (~11,000). See https://www.greencarreports.com/news/1129993_fire-concern-prompts-stop-sale-us-recall-for-2019-2020-hyundai-kona-electric "Those deficiencies, Hyundai exp...

Yes, the 22kW is AC but the Model 3 can only take 11kW max on AC.

Re: Superchargers planned/under construction
Charge rate is highly dependent on your state of charge (SOC). If you're only getting 68kW it's because your SOC is over 50%. On the Model 3 SR+ it will be up to 130kW up to ~30% SOC on a Supercharger, up to 170kW on an Ultra Fast Charger. Tesla Superchargers are paired and share the same chargers s...

Nope, the SR+ in Australia does not have fog lights. There were some in the very early deliveries (Aug/Sep 2019) that had them.

Re: Aussie electric vehicle sales triple in 2019
Can't fault your logic on getting the Ioniq Chris - it's the pick of the $50k crop. A $40K Ioniq would be awesome and its price and practicality would help it sell similar volumes to the Model 3. Hyundai should bring back the old Ioniq with the smaller and faster charging battery, cut some costs/fea...

Re: Aussie electric vehicle sales triple in 2019
It's always a challenge to sell a product that has high upfront costs and lower running costs. The Oz population can do it when buying a home (because they appreciate) but not for vehicles. The average passenger EV will save their owners over $20K in fuel over their lifetime but few people will fact...

Re: Superchargers planned/under construction
I'm not sure why you consider it odd that fast charging infrastructure isn't everywhere you believe it should be. There's less than 20,000 EVs in Australia, that's nowhere near enough to support statewide let alone nationwide fast charging. The roll out of Superchargers is driven by vehicle take up....

Re: Superchargers planned/under construction
No booking for destination charging unless specified in Plugshare (very rare).
Just give the location a call the day before arrival and let them know when you're expecting to charge there. They will tell you if there is any issue with you using it.

Re: Superchargers planned/under construction
Tesla are planning stations at Traralgon and Lakes Entrance as per earlier link but no physical progress yet.
For now, if you want to do the coastal road from Melbourne to Sydney your fastest option is the Chargefox fast chargers at Moe and an AC charge at the Marlo Hotel for ~3 hours.

Re: Model 3 lowest cost in Aus?
I don't think ABRP is better than the Tesla navigation (if your route only uses Superchargers) but it allows you to play with more variables e.g. headwinds, tailwinds etc. And with the Tesla navigation it's always from your current location to the destination. Often you want to see a trip say from M...

Re: Model 3 lowest cost in Aus?
In my experience, your Model 3 will pre-condition the battery to heat it up ready for supercharging when ambient temperatures are lower e.g. 15C or below. You will receive a notification on the dash in that situation. Your Model 3 will control the battery temperature irrespective of how fast you are...

Tesla Bjorn did a range test of an SR+ at 90kph at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gpvg2f7HyQs . Average Wh/km was 122. Thanks Chris for your support and to that of the other states whose members helped make the EV Expo what it was.
We tried a new format with the addition of the Ride Drive event and learnt a lot so hopefully we can share that and make the 2020 EV Expo in Victoria even better.
Cheers,
David

Re: Charging your non-Tesla EV from a Tesla charger
You can trim the type 2 end and still use non-Tesla Type 2 charging stations. The only practical issue is that by trimming the end of the Type 2 adaptor is that it will no longer lock into the charging station (as the lock indent is effectively removed by trimming). That means there is no security o...
