My EV dream is over... for now
Sooner or later, weather they like it or not, Holden will NEED to produce an EV due to market demand. It will only be time before it happens. And when it does my plan is to be their working on it. Ill def be pushing it from the inside after I get some power in there :p GM killed there own baby, for ...

Thanks, well I don't really care where they put me for now. A foot in the door is a foot in the door. The important thing is once I complete my degree ill have a position there and ill make sure its in the design studio. The plan is for me to one day be behind the design of an EV :) bring them down ...

Well good and bad news. I was in the final planning stages of my EV, even had a donor car ready to go. Was going to build it up for my final year Uni project. So starting January it would of been full steam ahead. But I just landed a years work place experience as an engineer for Holden, so my studi...

The gov is happy to give you 2 grand back for converting to LPG, but he will give you nothing for converting to electric, what bull!! That makes me mad, and only proves the point that they want more people on LPG so they can reap the benefits of the full tax on LPG once its in full force in 2012 I t...

Melbournes population has grown so much, yet the infrastructure is still basically the same. Was it some politician that said were bursting at the seems? Either way something drastic really needs to be done, limit immigration? build new major cities? 10 years ago my boss use to take 10 mins to drive...

I was making that comment to Richo as he was taking the piss out of me so to speak about my comment of 100 engineers for 10 years. It obviously wasn't obvious to him because he made that comment, hence why I replied with that remark. At the end of the day, everyone here wants the same thing. We are ...

I am talking about all the engineers involved, not holden directly but all their suppliers as well. Lets take the Comaro for example, my company supplies certain parts. At holden you have certain engineers that look after say interior, so you have say 3 there for comaro interior. Then you have our p...

That spreadsheet is great, ive used it myself but its use is limited. Working out your Wh/km is best done through looking at other conversions. Have a look through the evalbum I know if I use a barina my efficiency will be 150Wh/km, thats if I use lithiums so the weight is still under 900kg. so if y...

But these companies are working on hybrids/EVs so whats the problem? It just takes time. The ev1 was built because of the law, not because of public demand for one. The yanks pay half of what we do for petrol. So imagine what there cost was for petrol in 2000, 50 cents maybe? How many people would o...

EV2Go ok please read this carefully, I understand where you are getting confused and i will try and explain to you what you are missing out on. Now your theory is, we have a flywheel spinning a generator, the energy from this comes from traveling down a hill. So instead of braking we spin the flywhe...

ACmotor I am now way trying to offend you here, but your comment saying "If I can build one in my backyard then Toyota doesn't need to be given $70M to build just a hybrid." Is showing your ignorance when it comes to the costs of a production car. For start, an engineer coming straight out of uni wi...

ahaha yes of course,
I got the homer simpson quote stuck in my head
Homer: "The sum of the square roots of any two sides of an isocoleces triangle is equal to the square root of the remaining side."
Jerk: "That's a RIGHT triangle, you idiot."
Homer: "DOOOHHH!!!!"

Mate you said... When I talk about recycling or reclaiming energy I am merely talking about talking a moving cars kenotic energy, and instead of wasting it by dissipating it in the form of heat through the application of the brakes, I am merely suggesting that kinetic energy can be stored temporaril...

Richo is right, drag is related to the square root of the velocity being travelled.
So as speed goes up, the power goes up exponentially.

Not to mention if you have a generator creating electricty to run your electric motor. The generator is still an ICE and is still subject to the 25% effeciency. So if you were to run your car on petrol running the generator running the electric motor, you will have worse fuel economy then a standard...

woww... my head hurts after reading all that Im really thinking about writing up some basic thermodynamics stuff. Your right about a waste of fossil fuels. If you do the calcs, of an ICE motor being 25% effecient at getting the power to the ground. Then a car weighing 1500kg and a driver weighign 80kgs. The driver only weighs 5% of the overall weight. So 5% of 25% is 1.25% So out of all the fuel that goes into ...

The way you calculate the effeciency of your car in terms of Wh/km, is A. You drive your car and see how much energy it uses over a given distance or B. Look at other conversions roughly the same to yours and you can estimate what your effeciency can be. There are ways to do it through formulas of c...

Once your reach a certain speed you only need power to overcome rolling resistanc and drag. Accelerating to that speed is another story. Not sure where you read 200watts will move a 700kg car at 16km/h, maybe with a tank full of hopes and dreams http://forums.aeva.asn.au/smileys/smiley36.gif Youll b...

Yeah I would want to design it around a 144V system, ill probably be using under 100V myself. But i want to make it usable for majority of the people. I was thinking of using these 380LQ102M250K032 caps (250V). esr at 20khz = 0.09 ripple current at 20khz = 4.6A 10 of them would cost $85 and would gi...

The motor I will be using will most likely be one of the following. X91-4001 L91-4001 The shunt is 500A so I will be building my controller around that. Even though the continious power drain wouldnt be much more then 100A. It will be limited to drawing 500A peak as anything over this I wont be able...
