Re: Inverter for 48v off grid - PIP xxxxx or something else?

The pressure pump has a built in VSD controlling the motor that was purchased set up like this. I can dial in a pressure setting at the pump controller (I have it set low just 40psi as that's all you really need for domestic water) The VSD will reference the pressure sensor to adjust the motor speed...

Re: Inverter for 48v off grid - PIP xxxxx or something else?

I run a 3 bedroom offgrid home full sized 550lt fridge/freezer + 2nd small upright freezer, microwave, dishwasher, washing machine, water pressure pump, a few small inverter split system AC .(used on heatwave days) Kitchen has all the mod cons I would say its a typical home. Though we have wood fire...

Re: AVASS cells 2nd lot

Thanks for that info, I will try and resuscitate my old facebook account to take a look. Anything over 400ah is a bonus :) I just wasn't sure if anyone had performed a capacity test on this 2nd round of used cells from the buses and the results could be different? No intention to charge the cells to...

AVASS cells 2nd lot

I was one of few who ended up with 16 of the 460ah lifepo4 cells from the AVASS bus. I was surprised that there hasn't been more discussion or shared info regarding the cells from the first round last year. Unless there is and it's not on this forum? I thought I would share my thoughts on them and w...

Re: Is anyone using an arc welder with an offgrid system

To add a little more confidence in the PIP4048 units. Over the past year I have had a new offgrid home and workshop built and the PIP4048 was the primary power centre for the build. So it spent many weeks powering the various trades tools. Large drop saws, Air compressors, angle grinders. Some times...

Re: Is anyone using an arc welder with an offgrid system

Welders are less of a issue than starting large motors. With the pip4048 I was able to use a large 16cfm 3 cyl air compressor with 3hp motor. That said it was about the limit for the PIP4048. As in if you had another large load start at the same time it would over load. 200A ac/dc inverter tig welde...

Re: Solar Panel output: Rating versus Reality

While I agree that the factory test conditions don't represent real world conditions over the day. It's a starting reference point for comparison and I haven't had issues obtaining similar results even from well used( 10 years old+) 2nd hand rigid poly Chinese panels. Clean panels, clear day, tilted...

Re: PIP-4048MS inverter

The efficacy of 91% at 5kw output is a lot of heat to extract. I wonder how the 5kw versions will go running 80A scc and 5kw load at the same time or even 80% of that combination for any length of time.

Re: PIP-4048MS inverter

I have a few questions regarding two PIP5048ms units in parallel mode. Generator input or AC Utility charge and the corresponding DC output charging rate of two pips running in parallel. Is this double the rate (120A) of a single PIP5048ms 60A utility charge rating ? Has anyone used a PIP5048 with a...

Re: i-MiEV not charging, high voltage warning light and battery

it takes 23 - 27 days from Japan Sydney. I'm sure they would have staggered orders to. I find it hard to believe that they would have zero stock of the chargers in japan. Though I can see you point if they had to have a batch made. If they pulled there finger out they could make something happen and...

Re: i-MiEV not charging, high voltage warning light and battery

Considering Mitsubishi would have a well sorted international shipping logistics arm for all the parts inventory to support the full range of Mitsubishi Cars. Most likely receiving thousands of parts each month to support hundreds of thousands of cars in Australia. Perhaps receiving several shipment...

Re: Aftermarket iMiEV battery upgrade project

I think its around 50kw charge rate in the beginning of a dc fast charge 3.125C on a 16kwh stock battery though it slows down to a more modest rate after not to long. Yes valid points about a larger bank having 1/2 the stress. I guess my point for going with stock 16kw 50ah bank is not to have to in...

Re: Aftermarket iMiEV battery upgrade project

$85 US each for the 100ah cells at todays exchange rate has them at $117 AU x 88 cells $10,300 Though you would most likely want to order a few spare cells and then you have shipping so 12k sounds about it. Though not having any warranty on the cells and perhaps no insurance on the car you drive on ...

Re: AVASS Battery order details

Even if they are down 10 or 15% (40-60ah) from listed spec that's ok. I found 400ah at 48v lifepo4 to more than enough capacity to be 100% offgrid even with a hungry EV in the mix. As long as you have the PV array size to support it. Any more capacity would be wasted on most homes. It would be inter...

Re: AVASS Battery order details

$8,000 RRP for the 7kw 48v SP pro makes it hard to justify from a investment perspective. Particularly if you have the grid. A very isolated - remote setting where power dependability a factor in the value equation is a different story. That said I found it a bit disappointing how Selectronic stop s...

Kangoo from 0 -100kph in 22 seconds yikes ! you would want to have a very long merging lane if you went on the freeway. The same car with the ICE motor did it in 10 seconds under 1/2 the time! No reason why they couldn't at least made it simular specs to the ICE or better. ICE Kangoo 10 seconds http...

No not offgrid this time around. The long term cost to be off grid isn't viable due to battery cost. The grid is only 140m away and less than 20k to connect.

Re: Aftermarket iMiEV battery upgrade project

I think sticking with a cell that's close to 50ah would be best as the BMU would be happy in its capacity calculations. The Imiev range is fine with stock capacity. If modern spec lithium was a few KG less weight than stock at the same capacity.... great!. if price - AH was the same as the 72ah cell...
